Chapter-Thirty

Brandon's POV:

I was in a trance staring just staring at her with confusion the way she was speaking to her fiance. Her each endearment that she was using while talking to her fiance stabbed my heart.

I didn't know why I was so hurt? I have muself moved on and got engaged so why couldn't she. After all she deserves happiness in her life more than me.

I saw Sebastian pressing Madeline to his side in affectionate way but it only fueled my jealousy.

I wanted to snatch her from his arms and pulled her in mine.

I should be happy for her. She used to be my best friend and I should be happy for her but then why does it feel like someone is ripping my heart.

Whenever she smiles at something he said I had to clench my fist before I would do something that will ruin mine and her relationship.

I tried focusing on Laura but at that moment nothing appealed me towards her. It was like Laura doesn't mean anything to me and I felt guilty at me thoughts. She has done so much for me in the past few years when my best friend left me without any explanation.

"Are you guys expecting?". Laura's word registered little slow in my mind and I realized that Laura is asking this to the couple standing in front me.

I didn't know what came over me but I felt myself trembling with anger. From inside I was this near of throwing punch after punch at Sebastian perfect face.

Before hearing that the girl I loved all these years is pregnant with her fiance's baby I turned around and left the the hall were party was still going. I felt the heart wrenching pain in my heart making me stumble.

I walked aimlessly and found a small garden at the far corner decorated with fancy lights. I found a bench fixed near the beautiful fountain in the center of the garden and decided to slump down on it. I stared at the clear water of fountain and recalled the time I kissed Madeline first time near the lake and felt the heart wrenching pain in my chest at the memories. I closed my eyes and her face appeared in front of me with Sebastian kissing her making me gasp at the sudden difficulty to breath properly.

I didn't want to recall the memories we had because it only brought endless pain.

I heard the clicking of heels and stiffen thinking that it might be Madeline but the hope diminished when figure of woman appeared clad in red fitted dress.

"Brandon what was that?". Laura said sitting beside me looking upset.

"Nothing". I spat feeling angry and disturbed.

"Brandon are you alright?". She asked placing her hand on my shoulder.

"I'm fine Laura". I said in a slow voice feeling guilty for using harsh tone at her earlier.

We sat in a complete silence for few minutes until I heard my phone ringing.

"Hello Matt". I said receiving the call from the lawyer of the company.

"Boss.You won't believe what I have find out today". Matt said in a excited voice.

"Matt I'm not in the mood for riddles". I said pinching my nose in frustration.

"I found the traitor in the company! You need to come back as soon as possible! I can't do anything until you're here". Matt said sounding eager.

"Matt I am coming back by taking the first flight back to Boston. Bye". I said abruptly getting up from the bench.

"What happened?". Laura asked me looking somewhat worried.

"My secretary was reminding me about the important meeting". I said.

"Let's go". I said to Laura making her follow behind me with the curious face.

Then we both left the party and went back to the hotel where we have decided to stay for tonight.

Next morning Laura and I flew back to Boston and first thing I did that I got ready and left for a office while Laura decided to catch some sleep.

I didn't wanted to come back from New York this early without talking to Madeline. But the matter at the office needs my sole attention at the moment. I would ignore it if it wasn't about to catch the traitor in the office.

Despite it hurt me to confess but Madeline looked happy with the man and I don't blame her for that. She deserves all the happiness but I wanted to be that man who will give her all the happiness in the world not someone else. I wished I could change everything and be that man in her life.

Realizing that I have arrived at the floor of my office I got out of the elevator and walked towards my office.

I entered in my office and found the team of five members waiting for me.

"Good morning everyone". I said taking a my the seat opposite the table.

They chord back the reply and got started with the meeting.

"Boss these are the last years balance sheet and income statement". Mr.Brett said showing me papers and passing the copies to others around the around the table.

I read the both papers and realized that the big chunk of money was missing and to balance the amount wrong figure was recorded.

"There are more statements of last five years that carries the same error in balance sheets and income statement". Matt the company lawyer said showing me more papers.

"Aren't they checked by our two accounts of the company". I said while checking the last five years statements and finding a same error of missing amount in them.

"The thing is that Mr.George has been receiving and signing the different sheet while the incorrect one has been concealed or hid before he can get his hands on them". Matt said.

"Then who has been signing the incorrect one?". I asked them because I can clearly see the signs of both accountants of the company.

Mr.Brett cleared his throat looking nervous while other were averting there eyes from my face like they're scared to discuss something.

"Spit it out". I said.

"Sir it's Mr.Pual Norman". Mr Brett stuttered.

"Paul? Are you sure Mr.Brett it's him?". I asked.

"It's Paul and I'm sure about that. I have collected enough proofs to land him in jail for half his life for his disloyalty and fraud. He even forged Mr.George's signs and that could make his stay behind the bars longer". Matt said.

"Well then what are we waiting for? We should confront him". I said.

"Sir we can't. Not right now". Mr.Brett said.

"Why?". I asked.

"He took the half day leave for today". Mr. Brett informed me.

"Dammit. Have he realized already that we are after him? ". I asked them getting up from the chair.

"No sir we're loyal to you. He just took the half day off because he had an emergency at home". Fredrick replied another member of the team.

"Fredrick you will go to his address and make sure he couldn't leave or fly out from the country. If you see something suspicious inform me or Matt". I said.

"Mr.Brett I want his full information on my desk in an hour". I said making him nod his vigorously.

"Matt start working to file a case against him". I said.

"Already in the process". He said.

"Good". I said with the shake of my head.

"John you need to be alert all the time from now on. Paul cubicle is across yours if he enters in it inform me immediately and alert the security about him too". I instructed to John who nodded his head in response.

"Michael you will make sure that my dad wouldn't get the hint of all this until we have Mr.Norman in our grasp. I'll inform my father about this myself after putting the bastard behind the bars". I said tho my dad's secretary Michael. He is my dad's trusted employee and had been working in this company for three years.

"Is everything clear?". I asked them at which they chord "Yes Boss".

"Good. Now I suggest all of you go back to your work". I said adjourning the meeting.

Everyone left except Matt who looked at me like he wanted to tell me something but couldn't make himself to talk.

"Matt is there something in the story which you want to inform me". I said.

"Actually there is something". He said.

"What? Tell me and get over it". I said irritatingly.

"The private investigator found something about Paul which is weird and wrong to so many levels". Matt said.

"Now please refrain me from details about his personal life. I don't want to know if he is secretly gay or go stripers club for some". I said.

"I wish that's the case but it is far more complicated and unusual then this. But I'll inform you about that when I'll get my hands on some solid proofs". He said with the determined look on his face.

"This is not his first crime?". I asked him with raised eyebrows.

"Something like that". Matt said getting up and bid the farewell before leaving the office.

After that I got busy with work and didn't realize that it was already noon past the lunch time until my phone beeped with the message from Laura.

I opened it and saw a smile face emoji which made me smile but it still felt weird because Laura is not a prrson who will send emojis.

I decided to go back to my apartment and have lunch with Laura as the today's day was quite stressful and I need sometime off from the office.

Telling Mrs.Francis to inform me immediately if Matt or Mr.Brett calls me I left the office.

In silence I drove back to my apartment which was fifteen minutes drive away from the office building.

Parking the car I stepped out went inside the building. Taking a elevator I reached on the sixth floor and walked near in the direction of my apartment.

Pulling out the keys from inside my pockets I unlocked the door and entered inside and frozed.

Madeline POV:

I felt the tickle on my nose then on my eyes and jaw making me groan in annoyance.

"Wake up baby". Sebastian said.

"Shut up Sebastian. Go away!". I said irritated and swatted his hand away.

"The breakfast is ready and if you don't remember you have to go to watch Bryan's performance today. So get up before you receive calls from every breathing Emerson". Sebastian warned me making my eyes flew open.

I was still in haze so I had to blink my eyes few times. Then I my eyes landed on Sebastian already dressed in one of his expensive grey suit ready to leave for his office.

"You're not coming with me?". I said in confusion.

"No. I can't come today. I have a very important meeting with some foreigners". Sebastian replied taking a peek at his wrist watch.

"But.... ". I started to convince him to come but he interrupted me.

"I have already talked about this to Bryan. He wasn't convince at first but after having some KitKats and ice cream he was all good". Sebastian said with the mischievous smile.

"You are a devil Sebastian". I hissed getting up from the bed and making my way towards the washroom dressed in tank top and pyjamas.

At sometime last night I woke up and got change out of the damn dress then went to my bed otherwise I would have spend the whole night sleeping on a stiff couch.

"Give me five minutes to brush my teeth". I said shutting the washroom door.

When I was done with the morning routine work I brushed my teeth then stared at myself in the mirror. A lot has changed in last six years. My life, my height, my figure nothing indicates that I'm the old Madeline but yet somehow I'm still the same girl from inside with the problems and issues that still follows me around like a death angel.

Picking my cream color silk robe I tied it around my waist and went out. Sebastian was already eating his breakfast while using his laptop.

The breakfast was placed on the kitchen counter and two stools were set opposite each other from one of them was occupied by Sebastian.

"No laptop on dining table". I said.

"It's kitchen counter if you haven't realized it". He said sarcastically.

I noticed my mistake and said "Let me rephrase it. Don't use laptop while eating".

"Better".I asked him while filling my plate with cheese omelet and toasts.

He ignored my jab with the roll of his eye.

We eat in the silence and after we were finished with breakfast I compiled the plates and started washing them.

Helen entered in the kitchen and said"Good morning".

"Morning Helen". I said washing a plates.

"Please dear leave them. It's my work let me wash them". Helen said snatching plates from my hand.

"C'mon Helen it's not much. Washing few plates won't hurt my hands". I said to the elderly lady who has been working in Sebastian penthouse for years.

"Madeline please will you come here for a second I need to talk to you". Sebastian said looking impatient.

I washed my hands and dried them then follow Sebastian to his study.

"What?". I asked him.

"I didn't asked you this last night because you look tired and disturbed but why was Brandon staring at you like he has just seen his ex after six years who he still loves". Sebastian said and my breath hitched.

"Your description is wrong. He was just looking at me like a friend see his long lost friend after six years". I said.

"You know, you still haven't told me the biggest secret of your life when you claims to trust me". Sebastian said coming closer and running his knuckles on my cheeks.

"I told you". I mumbled.

"Yes you did. But we both know it is a lie". Sebastian said and I closed my eyes.

"You're not the only one oblivious of the truth". I said opening my eyes.

"I know and I'm not pressuring you to tell me everything but remember you can't hide it all your life". He said.

"I wish I could". I mumbled closing the gap and hugging him.

I felt his arms circling around my back as he pulled me closer and kissed my head.

Pulling away he mumbled "I need to go. But if I will be able to close the meeting early I will make sure to come and see Bryan performance".

"I know you will". I said with the smile and smiled back.

Taking his laptop bag he left the for the office while I went to take the shower.

I got dressed in one of my simple maroon dress which was chinned from the waist and the skirt of the dress was reaching till my knees. Putting on my black stilettos I took my purse and stuffed it with my wallet and cellphone.

Picking up my car keys I left the penthouse telling Helen goodbye.

I drove to the school and parked my car and searched for the auditorium. After finding it I went inside my parents, Matt and Lisa were seated in the front row. I took the empty seat beside Lisa.

"Hey? Please tell me I'm not late". I said to Lisa.

"No you're not late but you have missed the opening performance of my little princess". Matt said.

"Oh God I'm really sorry". I said feeling guilty.

"Don't I have recorded it". Lisa said with the smile.

"What about Bryan? His was on fifth I guess". I said.

"Yes honey, it's fifth. He was so excited all night that your father and I had to sleep with him last night to make sure he won't get up in the middle of the night and started dancing". My mom said with the broad smile.

"Well that's because you guys love him more than me". I said pretending hurt.

"No honey it's not the case. Your mom might love him more than you but your dad will always love you more". Dad said.

"Dad last time you gave the my share of chocolates to Bryan". I complained reminding him how wrong his perspective is.

"Er.... Because he's kid". He said with innocent smile.

"Right". I said rolling my eyes. Because I know they love Bryan a lot maybe a little more than me.

"Shhh. The play is starting ". Lisa said quieting us all.
