Chapter 423
Changing only for her (Sophie and Tristan)
âDonât worry. Iâve already figured out how to deal with this issue,â Sophie answered. Itâs just an
engagement. Sheâll never be able to marry Clayton in the end.
âIn my opinion, Willow isnât a good person. Since she wants to be with Clayton so badly, we should just
let her be. Clayton will deal with her!â Felix uttered bluntly.
Ysabelle nodded, concurring, âThatâs true. Willow is such a bad person! We should just leave her to her
fate.â
Even if we were to help her, itâs not like she would be appreciative. Itâs completely unnecessary for us
to make a move.
âAll right, now. Stay out of it, you guys,â Sophie stated, not seeing the need for the others to brood over
it.
Right then, Clayton and Willow showed up.
Upon seeing them, Ysabelle immediately shut her eyes as she thought she had imagined things.
Speak of the devil!
She then gradually opened her eyes. Sure enough, she still saw them.
Clayton brought Willow over because he thought that no matter what, the group would show her some
respect since she was Sophieâs older sister.
âHey, Mr. Tristan! What a coincidence!â Clayton arrived in front of the group and wanted to take a seat.
Seeing that he was about to sit down, Sophie uttered, âWho said youâre allowed to sit here?â
The young woman did not see the need to pretend to be cordial toward people she disliked.
Willow was utterly dissatisfied with Sophieâs attitude toward Clayton, so she complained haughtily,
âSoph, whatâs the matter with you? Weâre going to be family soon! Why must you act this way?â
In her mind, she thought it was completely fine for sisters to help each other out.
âIâm sorry, but youâre not my family,â Sophie retorted. I donât have such a shameless sister.
âYouââ Livid, Willow was about to lose her temper but held her tongue when she saw Tristan sitting
next to Sophie.
âSoph, donât you think you should behave yourself in Mr. Tristanâs presence?â She reminded Sophie.
âHah. This is how I am. Why should I change? Iâm not a pretentious person!â Sophie did not mince her
words.
âExactly! Uncle Tristan likes Sophie for who she is. Whatâs wrong? Are you jealous? Didnât you try to
seduce Uncle Tristan back then? How shameless of you!â Ysabelle chimed in ungraciously.
âYsabelle, donât spew nonsense. Since when have I tried to seduce Mr. Tristan?â Willow panicked. She
was in disbelief that Ysabelle dared to make such a false claim in the presence of Clayton. âIâve never
done that, Clayton!â she explained, turning to her fiancé.
Anger surged in Claytonâs heart. Have I become a nobody?
âClayton, weâre not cut from the same cloth. Perhaps you should bring your fiancée to another table.â
Since Sophie and the rest did not own Nocturnal, they would not chase Clayton and Willow out of
there.
However, if Clayton were to try to blend in, none of them would show him respect, which was
unfortunate for him.
At that moment, Claytonâs expression was grim.
âClayton, weââ Willow wanted to say something but dared not finish her sentence when she saw his
countenance.
As a matter of fact, she was terrified of Clayton.
She knew he was not genuinely into her, though it did not matter to her.
After all, she would have a chance as long as she could stay by Claytonâs side, and all she wanted was
a chance like that.
âWell, Iâm sorry for intruding on your gathering, then!â Clayton said. However, he was even more
mortified because everyone ignored him.
Yet, he could not afford to lose his temper at such a moment. In the end, he had no choice but to bring
Willow away silently.
âDonât be angry, Clayton. Thatâs just how they are. They think theyâre all that,â Willow comforted him.
Clayton lashed out at her. âDidnât I tell you to fix your relationship with Sophie? What have you done?â
âYouâre aware of Sophieâs temper too, Clayton. Sheâs so haughty that no matter what I do, sheâll always
be high and mighty.â Despite feeling aggrieved, Willow could only endure it.
âI donât care how you do it, but I want you to reconcile with Sophie.â He ignored her after saying that.
Willow felt miserable when she saw Sophie being on friendly terms with the top elites of the upper-
class society while she had to accept Claytonâs unreasonable demands.
D*mn you, Sophie! You shouldâve died in Horington. How did you make your way back to Jipsdale?
Ever since you returned, my life has been tough. Iâm praying for you to die every single day. That way,
everything will then return to normal!
âDid you hear what I said to you? Why are you in a trance? Let me tell you thisâI hate fools. If you
want to stay by my side, you ought to be alert!â Clayton scolded.
I wouldnât have gotten engaged to this woman if it werenât because I wanted to make Sophie show me
mercy. Honestly, nothing about Willow is attractive to me.
âI understand, Clayton.â Willow nodded.
However, reconciling with Sophie was mission impossible for her.
Meanwhile, Ysabelle said excitedly to Sophie, âBy the way, weâll be able to check our results for the
university entrance exam by midnight! Should we wait for it together?â
Regardless of the outcome, it was considered the beginning of a new journey for them.
âWe can check our results when we wake up tomorrow morning. Why should we stay up just for a
score?â Sophie disagreed.
Frankly, itâs not worth the wait!
âWhat do you mean itâs just a score? You have no idea how many people are going to have trouble
sleeping tonight, Sophie!â Ysabelle exclaimed.
Itâs definitely not just a score! It represents hope for countless people!
âTo me, it really is nothing but a score,â Sophie replied. Iâm not losing sleep over that.
âItâs all right. If she doesnât want to accompany you, Iâll keep you company while you wait,â Felix
immediately uttered.
Ysabelle shot a glance at him.
âForget about it! This sort of thing should be done with people who matter the most to me. Why should I
do it with you?â she said, turning him down right away.
âSince youâre so excited to see your score, Iâll accompany you.â Sophie did not want to disappoint her.
âReally? Does that mean I get to stay over at Wisteria Apartments tonight?â In truth, Ysabelle was
looking forward to sleeping the night at Sophieâs place instead of checking her score.
Sophie nodded in agreement.
Seeing that, Felix was rendered speechless.
How is it possible that Ysabelle has such a strong attraction for a pretty girl like Sophie? If this goes on,
I might even begin to suspect that sheâs actually in love with Sophie!
âIâll keep you both company, then!â Felix suggested. The man humbled himself because he wanted to
be by Ysabelleâs side at such a crucial moment in her life.
âFelix, you canât be like this. You ought to allocate some time to find a girlfriend, you know? Youâre not
getting any younger. If you donât get a girlfriend soon, you might be single forever!â Ysabelle said.
âWhat do you mean, Ysabelle? Are you saying Iâm old? How am I old? My age is just right!â Felix
retorted.
Unfortunately, he experienced what it was like to be disdained by someone he was crushing on.
It was a suffocating feeling.
