****************************

Stuffing her books into her locker early in the morning with sore muscles, she let out a grunt as she moved her shoulders, trying to lessen the soreness.

She was tired from last night. She didn’t really get enough sleep since what Luke, the Alpha had said got her thinking. She thought about the people or creatures who wanted her dead. Questions jumbled up in her mind the whole night. She wondered whom could it be that she was going against with? How strong was this creature or person? Why?

She ended up only having two hours of sleep. She woke up late and it was a catastrophe. Thankfully, her wonderful little sister was awake. She had woke her up and for that, she was able to cook breakfast in time and leave for school before running into those monsters.

Her friend, Chelsea had already left for class since she needed to get ready for the group presentation, leaving at her locker. She stood there lazily stuffing her books, getting herself organized for the whole day she have ahead.

Her vision was blocked when two hands covered her eyes. From the musky addictive scent, she immediately knew who it was.

“Guess who?” He asked, his deep voice made her shivered slightly.

Oh man, love sure got her gooey.

“Hmm...I don’t know, Mr Darcy?” She answered.

He pulled his hands away and Elektra turned to meet him with a smirk on her face.

Blake rolled her eyes at her. “Again with the sarcasm.” He groaned.

She chuckled and playfully hit his arm. “Oh, you knew I knew it was you...and besides, you love my sarcasm.”

A gentle smile appeared on his face. “Yeah, I do.”

The smile itself sent her heart pounding fiercely against her chest.

Yup, definitely whipped.

“So...” Blake drawled. “You want to tell me what happened last night?” He asked, cocking his eyebrow at her.

Somehow, she was not surprised that he asked about it. She knew he would be curious and all but still, she wasn’t prepared to answer and she still just couldn’t tell him the truth.

“I just went somewhere with Henry...One of our friends was in trouble. We went to help.” She answered, averting her eyes away from him.

Leaning his body against the locker, he looked at her curiously. “I didn’t know you’re friends with Henry.” He said, his head bent down, eyes glued to the floor.

The image of Henry flashed in her mind, which made a soft smile appear on her face. “I am. He’s a good friend of mine. “

“You seemed really close.” He said. His tone was somehow hard and unhappy.

Stunned and confused by his tone, she looked at him with wide eyes. He still wasn’t looking at her. His arms were folded together and his eyes were fixed to the ground.

“We are. Like I said, he’s a really good friend of mine. He’s considered as one of my best friends.” She replied.

“Oh.” He voiced out, pausing for a few seconds before firing another question. “You guys must have known each other for so long, huh?”

She chewed on her lips harder, somehow to keep her frustrations from flying out. Why was he asking this and why is it that he seems somehow unhappy that she was close to Henry?

“Well, he’s been there for me since my dad died.” She answered. “What about you? I didn’t know you were friends with him.” She raised her eyebrow at him.

Even though she knew how he became acquainted with Henry, she still needed to ask him to avoid suspicion.

Blake shrugged before answering. “He helped me once.”

“Oh, I see. Well, that’s really nice of him.” She answered awkwardly.

“Yeah, very nice of him.” Blake replied in a clipped tone.

“He’s a great guy.” She added.

“Yup...really great.” He muttered. She could sense the sarcasm in his words. “Fancy guy with great attitude. What every girl wants. ”He mumbled.

Unfortunately, for Blake, Elektra heard him.

Okay that was it, she thought. She had no idea why he was acting like this and why was that it seemed that he had this huge dislike on Henry. She didn’t want him not like him. Henry’s her best friend and Blake’s the guy that she loves. Both of them fighting will make her completely upset and uncomfortable.

She slammed her locker door closed as she turned to him. “What’s wrong?” She sighed.

“What?” He raised his eyebrows innocently at her, which added more annoyance into her. “You...” She jabbed her finger at his chest. “That’s what’s wrong. Why are you acting like this?”

“Acting like what?” He asked, his eyebrows furrowing together.

She gritted her teeth in annoyance. “Don’t play dumb with me Blake. Why is it that you act like this? You seem really cross with Henry. Do you hate him or something? Did he do something so bad that makes you dislike him so much?”

He opened his mouth to say something but close it in frustration and looked away. “That’s none of your business.” He snapped at her..

Okay...that hurts.

Shock filled in her, assisted with pain. She chewed on her lips, trying to calm herself, not letting herself burst into tears.

“I thought we’re friends, Blake.” She replied.

“Yeah? Hypocrisy doesn’t suit you, Elektra. You’re keeping things from me too.” He retorted.

His reply made her heart clenched with agony. How could he? She knew she was keeping things from him but she had a good reason. He knew most things about her, aside from identity as a Protector and her duties. He knew about her mother and her dad, about Darcy, and even the mean stepsisters and her horrible stepmother. She never kept things from him, at least not her ‘Protector’ related things.

It was not that she didn’t trust him. It was just that the Protector ‘topic’ was somehow sensitive and hard for her to talk about. Talking about it means risking their friendship. She didn’t want to lose him. She didn’t want to lose the person she loves anymore.

Letting a shaky sigh, she closed her eyes before taking in deep breaths. She was not going to put up with this. She had so many problems already, she didn’t need new ones.

“You know what...don’t talk to me until you stop being a jerk.” She miffed before hugging her books close to her chest and walked away, leaving a speechless Blake behind.

*********

Blake let out a sigh once more, disappointed that he couldn’t find her. It was lunchtime and Elektra wasn’t at the lunch table. He asked Chelsea about her runabouts but she didn’t know about it either. All she could tell was that Elektra sent her a message, telling her that she just need some time to herself.

He’d been searching for her ever since Literature ended. It was heartbreaking for him not to talk to her or to have her smile at him. Her smiles mean the world to him. It was his source of happiness, his own self-medication. In Literature, she didn’t even look at him.

And he deserved it, he knew. He had hit his head on the locker repeatedly, cursing himself, how horrible he had been to her.

It was just so hard for him to control himself when he saw her smiling like that when he spoke of Henry. It made the green monster in him alive. It was enough that he had to fight it when he saw both of the so close together last night. The monster in him finally escaped the chains this morning when she smiled about him.

He knew he was being stupid, he completely knew.

It was completely his fault. He shouldn’t have let jealousy get over him but again, it was hard not to when you love that certain someone so much.

Just look at Henry. He’s tall, masculine and handsome. He even had this dark mysterious aura around him and that attractive British accent. Girls love that. He’s everything that a girl’s looking for. All he could say was that he got insecure of himself and he was afraid to lose Elektra to him.

He leaned his back on the locker, taking in deep breaths as he closed his eyes. He needed to talk to her. He needed to apologize. He never wanted to be apart from her, neither did he want her to be angry with him.

He let out a sigh again as he pushed himself off the locker and headed to the library since he was in no mood of eating or being accompanied with anyone.

********************

Closing the small notebook of researches on the supernatural creatures in her hands, she stuffed it into her bag safely. She did small progress on finding out what was going on with the supernatural and magical creatures. She read out the research her father did on zombies and she still couldn’t find out what makes them to become stronger than they were. Besides, she couldn’t really concentrate since all she could think about was him.

That idiotic jerk.

She had been avoiding him since school started. She still didn’t want to talk to him. He acted like total ass and hurt her feelings. She didn’t even know what was going on inside his head. Why the fact of her being best friends with Henry made him so angry? Even though somehow her anger at him had disappeared a little bit, she still didn’t want to face him.

She didn’t go to the cafeteria for lunch because she knew he’ll be there. Instead, she went to the library and found her peace and quiet there.

Sighing since her research wasn’t doing so well; she sat up and headed to the shelf to find an interesting book to read instead.

Going to the shelf with books with adventure as its genre, she took her time choosing a book that she's interested in as she gently ran her fingers over the spine of the books.

Her fingers froze when she felt a presence behind her. She knew who it was. It was hard not to miss that sweet musky addictive scent of his and the way her heart starts to beat faster in his presence. He was close, so close that she could feel his breath on her neck and the warmth of his body on her back. It made her shiver slightly and the pounding of her heart became faster.

“I’m sorry.” He said softly in her hear.

Oh dear. She realized that she was going to accept his apology sooner than she thought she would.

She turned and a gasp left her mouth when met his intent stare. His head was bent down close to hers and his arm was stretched out, holding onto the rack of the shelf to support him. His face was so close to hers, their nose touching and she could feel his warm breath on her lips.

He was so close.

“I’m sorry.” He said again, his dark brown eyes looked in pain that it made her heart felt guilty a little.

“Why?” She breathed out.

Blake let out a breath, looking away, biting his bottom lip from her before giving her his attention again. Slowly, he raised his free hand and caressed her cheek with the back of his hand. Ela found herself drowning in those beautiful dark brown eyes, a display of the galaxy up above, the resemblance of stars exploding in space.

“I was afraid.” He whispered, his hand trailing her jaw, running his fingers across her soft skin.

His touch and his stare made her heart pound faster in her chest that she could hear it in her ears. She swallowed a lump in her throat before answering him. “O-Of what?”

He didn’t answer immediately as he just stared at her like she was the most precious thing in the world to him. Elektra’s breath came out started to come out shakily as she had difficulty breathing looking into those amazing eyes.

Blake’s eyes glanced down to her lips and her heart skipped a beat and pound even faster that she thought it would jump out of her chest. She was pretty sure Blake could hear it too.

His hand cupped her face while his thumb gently caressed her cheek. She saw him swallow a lump in his throat as he kept on staring at her with emotions running in his eyes.

“Of losing you.”

Losing me? To what? She thought.

Just before Elektra could say anything else, someone cleared their throat which made Blake jumped away from her.

They turned to see the librarian looking at them coyly through her glasses with disapproving look on her face.

Blake gave her a shy smile while he glanced at Elektra who was blushing beet red.

“We were just leaving.” Blake said awkwardly to the librarian, pushing his hands into his jeans’ pockets.

She gave him a slow nod and a serious look before leaving them alone once again.

After making sure the librarian finally left them alone, Blake turned to look at Elektra who was still not looking at his face. She was chewing on her lip which he knew it was her act of nervousness.

Slowly clearing his throat, Elektra finally looked up. Their eyes met each other’s before Elektra turned deep red and stared at the floor.

Blake silently chuckled as he smiled. “I don’t want us to fight.” He said, finally breaking the silence.

Ela shyly laid her eyes on him. “I don’t want to fight either.” She smiled.

He let out a breath as he couldn’t take it anymore. He immediately went to her and wrapped his arms around her tightly, surprising her.

“Blake...” She whispered.

He didn’t answer her but he tightened his arms around her. At that moment, Elektra knew words were not needed. She slowly wrapped her arms around him and rested her head on his chest.

She felt him smile in her hair and it brought her to smile too. Being in his arms was amazing. She felt safe, cared for and alive. If she could freeze time, she would freeze it right then because being in his arms is one of the best feelings she ever had.

They jumped away from each other again when the librarian cleared her throat loudly this time. Both of them blushed but they had smiles on their faces. The librarian looked at them judgingly and shook her head.

“Um...again, we’re just leaving.” Blake said as he took Elektra’s hand and walked away from the librarian.

Elektra took her bag on her seat before both of them walked out of the library and they could hear the librarian grunting, “Kids these days.”

Outside the library, Blake surprised Ela again by lifting her up and spun her around with a bright smile on his face.

Elektra laughed as he put her down and hugged him. “I was starting to miss your idiocy.”

“And I was starting to miss your sarcasm.” He chuckled as he bent his head to look at her. “This calls for a celebration of best friends reuniting!” He exclaimed dramatically. “Where shall we go later after your work, my lady?”

Elektra giggled and nodded. “Ice cream?”

Blake smiled lovingly at her as he squeezed her hand and answered her. “Ice cream it is.”

*******************

“Well, someone’s in a good mood.” Henry stated to Elektra.

They were at the graveyard waiting for the zombies to appear for the night. Henry had arrived earlier than she did. When she arrived at the graveyard, he was already there, sitting on the bench. Tightening her black jacket and zipping it up, she gave Henry a smile.

“Is it that obvious?” She asked her fellow friend.

Henry smiled as he made his way to her. “With that big smile on your face, yes, it is obvious.” He replied.

Elektra chuckled and told him about her day, her fight with Blake and how they made up. She’d called Blake an asshole which made Henry chuckled. He listened to her while she told him the story with a smile on her face.

“Well, it’s great that you made up.” Henry stated.

Elektra nodded in agreement. “Yeah...but I still don’t understand why he became such an ass.” She said.

Henry laughed and Elektra looked at him with a confused expression on her face. He shook his head at her and gently patted the top of her head.

“My dear Ela...if I didn’t know you better.” He chuckled. “Honestly speaking, he was jealous.”

Ela frowned in response. “Jealous? Of what?”

Henry gave her a knowing look. Her mouth flopped open as she looked at him in surprise. “He was jealous of you and me?”

“Yes. I don’t know why you sound so surprised. The boy is head over heels about you.” He said.

Ela could only shake her head and stared at Henry as if he had grown another head.

“Really?”

“Yes. He saw how close we are and he was somehow intimidated by me. I don’t mean to brag, but look at me.” He smirked as he waved his hand up and down his body.

A crackling noise in the air stopped their conversation. Both of them immediately got on their guard as the zombies starting to crawl out of their graves.

“Party’s about to get started.” Ela said as she took her sword out from it sheath.

“Time to get wild then.” Henry replied.

Running fast on her feet and heading to the zombie, she tightened her gripped on her sword. Gracefully, she swung the metal blade over the dead, slicing off its head.

She felt the vibration of the impact run up her arm as the sword finally went through the dead’s neck, leaving its head flying off and dropped on the ground.

Moving swiftly through the current with adrenaline running in her veins, she stabbed and sliced the dead that were on her way. The dead groan and there were blood splattered on her face but she didn’t care.

She felt a grip on her wrist and turned to saw the dead with a bloodied mouth and rotten eyes looking at her. Its grip on her tightened and Elektra hissed in pain when its nail sunk into her flesh. She kicked the zombie’s feet, making it drop onto the floor before she sunk her sword into the zombie’s chest.

Too focused on the dead zombie on the ground, a zombie snuck up behind her and started to choke her with its hands.

She struggled to set lose, kicking the zombie and pulling its hands away from her neck but it only made it tightened its gripped on it.

The grip on her neck loosened and she sucked in a large amount of air as she watched Henry tearing the dead’s neck before her.

She gave him a thankful nod and got back on her feet. Turning on her heels, she attacked the zombie that was about to lung at her. She sunk the blade into the zombie’s heart, pushing it until the guard of her blade hit its chest.

Pulling the blade out from the zombie, her sword completely bloodied, she turned to search for more to kill, to ease the kill lust in her.

Relief filled in her when there were none left. Panting, she walked to Henry who’d the first aid-kit in his hand already.

They both sat down on the ground as Ela wiped her sword on the grass while Henry took out the iodine and cotton.

“Let me look at your wrist.” Henry instructed.

She gave him her hand and let Henry examined it. She winced when she felt the sting from the iodine on her hand as Henry wrapped it with a bandage. He then examined her neck and put on some ointment on it to ease the bruises on it.

“Great job by the way. You did wonderful.” Henry complimented as he closed the first aid-kit.

“You did great as well.” Elektra spoke as they both stood up.

“Well, what did I tell you, I’m still grilling it.” Henry smirked.

“Yet your words are the ones that old people uses.” She grinned.

Henry frowned. “Hey...” He whined.

A sound coming from the forest behind the graveyard froze their conversation. Both of them turned their heads to the forest before looking at each other.

“Please don’t tell me it’s another zombie holding a chainsaw.” Henry muttered.

Elektra swallowed a lump on her throat before turning her head to forest once more.

Slowly appearing from the misty forest were a group of zombies limping their way to them and most importantly, holding weapons such as axes and daggers in their hands.

“Oh god...” Elektra choked out.

“Since when the hell do zombies carry weapons?” Henry questioned.

“And since when they appeared from somewhere else other than their graves?” Ela added.

“This is so messed up. I’ve never seen it like this before.”

“It seems Vlad’s really getting to work on destroying me.” She noted.

Gripping her sword tightly and stood on en garde.

“Ready?” Henry asked with his fangs sticking out.

“I don’t really know.” She answered before pushing her feet off the ground and started running towards the group.

Caught off guard, the dead didn’t have time to block her attack as her blade met its neck. Sensing a presence behind her, she turned with her sword and blocked the incoming attack from the dead. The sound of metal hitting each other shook the atmosphere.

Gritting her teeth, she put the energy she had into her arms and pushed the axe away from her sword. The zombie stumbled back and she lunged at it and sunk the metal blade in its chest.

She yelled out in pain as one of the zombie cut her arm with a fire poker. She quickly tilted her blade and beat the fire poker away from her.

Circling each other like tigers in the wild, Elektra let her opponent lunged at her. Swiftly she raised her sword and blocked every attack from the dead, one by one. It goes on for a while and she could see her opponent was getting tired.

Smirking, as the poker hit her blade, she strongly pushed it off her and the zombie stumbled back. Blood bursts from its neck as her blade cut its head off, leaving pieces of skin and veins hanging loosely from its neck.

Running towards another opponent, she landed a flying kick on its head sending it tumbling down the ground. The dead threw a dagger at her. She bent her body to avoid it. The dagger cut through her side and hits the tree.

She winced in pain but ignored her wound as she pushed her feet of the ground, flying in the air with both of her hands gripping the grip of the sword and her sunk her sword into the dead’s eye.

With a hand covering her wound at her side, she turned to block the upcoming attack of the other dead. Thank god it was only a baseball bat and not a metal blade.

“Henry!” She shouted. “How many more?”

“Two left!” She heard him shout back.

Jumping off her feet, she wrapped her legs around the dead’s neck and twirled it. The dead fell to the ground with its neck rolling off the other way before turning into dusts.

Standing back up, she took the revolver from her holster and shot the zombie that was coming in her way. The bullet when straight through the dead’s eye before it fell to the ground.

She turned to the zombie heading back to the forest and pulled the trigger. The zombie’s body turned limp and dropped lifelessly to the ground.

Panting as she dropped on to her knees, tired and worn out, she laid her head on the bloodied grass and took in deep breaths.

She felt the wind and knew Henry was immediately at her side.

“Ela, you’re injured.” Henry said with concern while he brought her head to rest on his thigh.

“You don’t say?” She replied and closed her eyes.

She heard him grunt and she chuckled in response. She could hear him checking her in angst.

“Your sarcasm is not appreciated right now, Elektra.” He scolded before pulling down her shirt. “We need to get back to the lair and stitch that up.” He said, putting back the revolver in her hand and the sword on the ground back to its place.

He carefully lifts her up and started running to her house. Due to his vampire’s speed, they were able reached the lair shortly.

He carefully placed her on the bed in the lair before he took off her jacket and helped her to take her shirt off. He then went to one part of the room to get the medical supply and a basin of warm water including a clean cloth. He sat down on a wooden stool next to her bed and washed her wounds. In the process, he heard her cursed and grunts which made a soft smile appear on his face.

He then began to tend to her side which was worst than her arm. The cut was deep but thankfully it wasn’t severe.

He stitched it carefully and Ela would wince in pain once in a while but she told him to continue. As soon as he was done with her side, he began to give attention her arm.

When he was finished, he gently helped Elektra to lie down on the bed. She flinched and Henry tensed immediately but she gave him a weak smile and gently laid her head on the pillow.

Standing up from his seat, he went to change the dirty water and returned with a new one and a clean cloth. He sat down on the stool and dipped the cloth into the warm water and started to clean Elektra’s bloodied face.

A shaky sigh escaped his mouth while he ran the cloth across her forehead. It caught Elektra’s attention and made her wonder.

“Henry.” She called out.

“Hmm?” He replied while he wiped the blood on her neck.

“My wounds are not that bad, you know.” She informed.

He stopped cleaning her face and looked at her. They stared at each other in silence before he broke it by letting out an agitated breath and closed his eyes.

“What’s wrong?” She asked as she took his free hand.

He opened his eyes and lifted his head to meet her eyes. “I’m scared.” He answered.

She furrowed her brows together. Sensing the need of explanation on his words, Henry gave her a weak smile and squeezed her hand. “I’m scared for you, Elektra.”

“Why?”

“Vlad really wants you dead.” He stated. “And I’m really not okay with that.” His voice shook with fear.

Heart ached for the man in front of her, she caressed his cold hand with her thumb while her other hand reached up to cup his face.

Bringing his face up, their eyes meeting each other’s as she gave him a small smile.

“Hey, it’ll be okay.” She declared, patting his cheek gently.

“Ela, zombies come out from other places than their graves and bringing weapons with them...that’s something we’ve not seen before...and I’m scared of what’s coming next for you. Look at you now.” He breathed out.

“The wounds are not that bad.” She argued.

“Yes, I know that...but in the future, who knows how badly the wounds going to be? What happens if you’re wounded badly?” He quavered.

Ela looked at him with sadness in her heart. It pained her that he’s hurting and scared for her. She never wanted him to have those feelings.

Her eyes grew wide in surprise when she saw a red tear trailing down his face.

“Henry-”

He turned his head to block her view of him crying and stopping her from wiping his tear. He wiped the bloody tear away hastily and rested his clenched fists on his lap.

Swallowing a lump in his throat, he let out a shaky breath before he spoke. “I’m scared, Ela...of what’s going to happen...and I’m deeply terrified of the thought of you dying.”

They sat in silence. She was staring at him while he wasn’t looking at her. Both hearts, one dead, one alive were aching. Both not knowing what’s the future is holding. Both terribly afraid.

Henry felt two gentle hands bringing his head and let it rest on her shoulder. He closed his eyes and let out a shaky breath while she stroked the back of his head.

“I’m scared too.” She whispered, catching his attention.

She paused for a second before she continued. “But it’ll be okay.” She alleged. Her hand continuously stroking the back of his head, soothing him as he heard her say something that he hopes to be true.

“It will be okay. Trust me.”
