Chapter 31-Roe and Adrian

Roweena

When Roe regained consciousness, she was laying in the back of Joe's SUV, with her head in Adrian's lap. "What happened?" She asked him.

"You fainted shortly after we left with the injured men." He replied.

Roe sighed. "I think I used too much energy in a short amount of time."

"Probably so." Adrian said. "Plus, you're not used to your new powers yet either."

"How is everyone?"

"They're fine. Joe and Shane are in there with Agent Maitland, releasing the rest of Marsden's prisoners."

"Shouldn't you be in there too?" Roe asked, sitting up.

"Shane is keeping me updated, but someone needed to stay with you and I'm the more level headed of the two of us." Adrian said with a smile.

"That you are." Roe agreed. "So, what have I missed?"

"Well, Agent Maitland arrested Major Marsden, with the approval of the military. He and Colonel Allen will be held by PBI, since they know about us they're considered to be under PBI's jurisdiction." He paused in case Roe had any questions. She nodded for him to go on, so he did. "It turns out that Major Marsden was actually in the military at one point, and saw something he wasn't supposed to see. One of the men under him was a werewolf who accidentally changed where Marsden could see him. That sent Marsden over the edge, and his behavior caused him to be recalled from overseas. General Jackson was at a debriefing of Marsden to see if he'd be transferable to PBI but decided that the man was too unstable. Marsden's behavior got him court-martialed and subsequently dismissed from the military."

"How do you know all of this?" Roe asked him.

"After arresting Marsden, Agent Maitland had a long conversation with General Jackson, who told him about it. Maitland told me, Joe and Shane about it in confidence, so we wouldn't raise any questions with the military about Marsden."

"So they want to keep their crazy major a secret." Roe said disgustedly shaking her head.

"Well yes and no. They all want to keep him a secret because of the information he knows about the supernatural community more so than the fact that he went crazy."

"I guess that makes sense. If we asked too many questions about him, other people would get interested in him, and that might lead to another place like this being started." Adrian nodded and she continued. "If we let him go rot quietly in PBI's detention center, hopefully everyone will forget about him and no one will follow in his footsteps."

"That's what they're hoping." Adrian told her.

"I'll go with that for now. As long as nothing like this happens again." Roe said. "If it happens again, we'll have to investigate Major Marsden's involvement again."

Adrian nodded. "If only to make sure he didn't have anything to do with it."

"Yes." Roe said, then changed the subject. "What about Boudreau and Parker? What's going to happen to them?"

"Parker is actually a doctor and he's extremely interested in supernatural creatures, but no one would even talk to him about it except Marsden. That's how he wound up here. So, Agent Maitland is going to try to hire him to work for him as a medic or doctor."

"That sounds like a good idea. He didn't seem crazy or like he wanted to hurt anyone." Roe said.

"Boudreau on the other hand, was a Corporal in the military. He defied his commanding officer enough times that he was discharged. None of the things he had done warranted a court-martial, but they didn't want to keep someone that wouldn't obey orders." Adrian stopped and shook his head. "From what I overheard when he was talking to Agent Maitland, he disobeyed orders when he was trying to save the life of another soldier. I think Agent Maitland's going to try to recruit him too."

"Did you figure out what Boudreau was?"

"No. He's being very tight-lipped about it."

"Well, I'm glad they're not being arrested. They both seemed like they didn't know what Marsden was planning, like he'd lied to them about what they were doing here." Roe said.

"It seemed that way to me and Shane too. We told Agent Maitland that, and about the conversation we'd had to that effect with them before we escaped."

"Good. I'm glad they're not being punished for not knowing what Marsden was up to. What about the others that were here? And Savage?" She asked.

"The guards were mostly ex-military who had been discharged. They didn't seem to be told much about why they were here, either. Most of them were told to keep people out, not in." He shrugged. "I'm not sure what they're going to do with them. The military may be going to deal with them, since they don't really know anything about us." Roe nodded and he continued. "Savage on the other hand has been arrested by PBI, and Agent Maitland has intentions to get him some counseling to try and reconcile his two halves."

Roe nodded. I doubt that man will ever come to terms with the fact that he's part werewolf, no matter what anyone says. "So where does that leave us?"

"Well, I thought we'd go back to Joe's pack for a couple of days and then decide where we were going from there. We're not obligated to do anything after this." He shrugged. "You're not a leader of anyone who was kidnapped, and neither am I. They're contacting the Coven Leaders and Alphas whose members were kidnapped to come get them. They're going to move them all to that motel in the neutral zone where we met Joe until their people come for them."

"I thought you were going to take care of the vampires that they had." Roe said, confused.

"I was, but I don't want to leave you, and none of them belong to my coven, or my friend's coven." He said. "It would take a long time to get them all back where they belong, so I helped Agent Maitland get all the contact information for the coven leaders."

"Oh, okay." Roe said. "How many people have they found from Joe and Shane's packs?"

"They found three of Joe's and two of Shane's." Adrian paused, then said. "Shane's going to have to take his pack members back home."

Roe nodded. "I knew he was going to have to, if there were any here."

"I'm not sure how he's going to deal with being separated from you." Adrian said cautiously.

"It'll only be for a couple of days, then he can meet us at my house. I've got to go there to do some research about the threats against me, and the possibility of a witch having been kidnapped." Roe said, then asked him uncertainly "That is if you were serious about following me anywhere."

"I was serious, and that's fine with me. As long as you want me to."

"I'd love the company." Roe told him, truthfully.

Adrian looked down at his hands and bashfully said "I want to try to make us work. Not because of the power or anything, though that was nice. You're the most interesting woman I've met in a long time."

"Truthfully, I'd like that too, but I want to start slow and get to know each other before fully mating. I want this to last." Roe told him.

He smiled at her. "I'd like that. It's been a long time since I wooed a woman."

Roe laughed. "That sounds like a lot of fun."

Special Agent Maitland, Joe, and Shane came out of the building and over toward the car. Adrian and Roe got out to meet them. Joe and Shane hugged Roe, saying how glad they were that she was okay. Special Agent Maitland pulled a phone out of his pocket and handed it to Roe. "I took this from you the other day, and haven't had a chance to return it since one of my men retrieved it from my office. I didn't mess with it but I had him charge it for you on the way here."

"Thank you." Roe said, taking the phone from him. "I appreciate it." She paused then asked him "Would you mind telling me what pack Jack Reynolds was originally from?"

"Um, what?" Special Agent Maitland asked, surprised.

"Before he got accepted into the PBI, which pack was Reynolds from?"

"The Oakland Pack, why?" He answered her, confused.

"Before you found us at the hotel, Shane and Adrian were being chased by some members of the Oakland Pack. Joe said that their Alpha said it was because they were detaining all strangers who were passing by, but it didn't make sense to me because one of them mentioned a 'Jack', and 'the Major'. If Jack Reynolds was originally from that pack, he could've told some of the pack members that they were dangerous and to chase them. Then the military men were behind them, and planning on taking us when Oakland's people found us."

"That makes more sense, Roe." Joe said. "I couldn't bring myself to believe that Alpha Lewis was involved and lying to me about it."

"I couldn't either." Roe agreed. The men around her continued talking as she unlocked her phone and started reading the messages she had missed. "I have to go home now." She suddenly said to them.

"Why?" Joe asked. "I thought you were going to spend a couple of days with us before you went home."

"I was Joe and I'm sorry, but I have to go home now. There's a family emergency. Can I borrow your SUV to get back to my car?"

"Sure Roe. Your car is right where you left it. Nobody's touched it."

"Thanks Joe." Roe said hugging him, then turning to leave. "I'll call you later, after I know more about what's going on."

"I'm coming with you." Adrian said, following her.

"Roe." Shane called. "I have to go take some people home." He stopped, uncertain as to what to say next.

"Call me. I have my phone back, your dad has my number. I'll talk to you later." She told him, getting into the car with Adrian.

As they drove off, Adrian asked her "What's going on Roe?"

"One of my cousins is missing."
