At her words, Blain burst out laughing.
âHahahaâ¦damnâ¦â
Leah didnât flinch at his mockery.
âDid you ever have any sincere feelings for me?â She asked.
For the first time, his eyes wavered. He couldnât answer. In tense silence, they looked at one another, and she watched the storm arise in his eyes, a flood of emotions that rose in a tide to devour him.
And suddenly, he smiled.
âI like you, Leah,â he whispered, with an abrupt sweetness that was jarring. His hand stroked her hair. âFrom the first moment we met, until nowâ¦â
It sounded like a sincere confession. Immediately contradicted by what he did next.
âSo you should have been obedient.â His fingers twisted in her hair and yanked, wrenching her head back. âItâs your fault everythingâs a mess!â
He flung her to the ground, his teeth bared, his hate and rage exploding. Leah was terrified as he moved between her thighs, yanking her clothing away with a noise of tearing cloth. In the full light of day, she wrestled with him, fighting to shove him away.
âNo, get off me, donât touch me!â
Leah raked his arms with her nails, to no effect. She slapped his face so hard, his head rocked to one side. -Posted only on NovelUtopia.
ââ¦â¦â
Slowly, he turned to face her again, staring at her in silent menace as she reached to cover her exposed undergarments with torn cloth.
âDonât pretend, youâre not even pure,â he said coldly. As if she were an object, not the person he loved. âWasnât I a fool to care for you?â
âYou never cared about me,â she retorted.
âShut up!!!â Blain shouted furiously, and then his expression shifted again, a sweet smile that was more frightening than insanity. Gently, he tugged at her stiff wrist. âLeah, you love me.â
His voice was forgiving as he caressed her.
âThat savage has confused you a little, thatâs all.â
Leahâs other hand pressed painfully to her chest. Every kind word made her heart react, a painful squeezing that was so upsetting. Faintly, she could hear the rattling of chains, all but forgotten.
âTell me that you love me,â Blain whispered. âThen I will be kind to youâ¦â
Those chains were forged from her false feelings. Her heart was beating so fast, and she didnât want it to, and Leah thought of golden eyes. Her excitement was for the man she truly loved. Her lips parted.
âIâ¦â
The sound of chains paused.
You can do it, you can do itâ¦
Leah drew a deep breath, and when she spoke, she heard a snapping inside her mind.
âI donât love you.â She said it without hesitation. It didnât matter if her heart was racing, it didnât matter if deafening screams rose inside her mind, she forced the words out stubbornly. âEven if I were born all over again, I would never love you.â
Blain stared at her in shock.
And then he smiled.
âIf only you had obeyed,â he said. âI wouldnât need to make you a dollâ¦â
There was no sanity in his eyes as he gently caressed her cheek.
âYou really are so stupidâ¦urgh!â
Suddenly the weight moved off her body and Blain floated for a moment, struggling, before he was violently thrown away, crashing into the garden. And the person she had longed for most was there instead, appearing above her.
âTell me you love me, Leah.â Ishakan smiled, his golden eyes bright. âAnd then I will kiss you.â
