Professor Harris
We decided to take Kamala's car into town since it was less noticeable and mine was pink. But I knew Kamala adored my car since she couldn't stop talking about it. Kamala drove while I sat in the passenger seat like the princess I am. Her soft hums filled the car as we were almost into the towns shopping centers. My phone dinged and before I could look down Kamala was already staring into my lap. Riah's name flashed across the screen and before I could say anything Kamala held a smile to her face.
I turned my head trying to read her expression. "What are you smirking at?"
Her smile became just a bit wider as she leaned back in her seat. "Oh nothing, just flattered at how you both talk about me."
I let out a sarcastic laugh as I folded my hands in my lap.
"How do you know we talk about you?" I said, as my tone became curious.
"Well, you've already admitted you had a crush on me while I already knew. It's also the fact that Riah wasted no time leaving us alone when I came over yesterday."
I turned my attention back to the window to hide the slight embarrassment that was clearly on my face. We came to a red light and I felt Kamala gently grab my chin bringing my attention back to her. She was still smiling through it all.
"I must be right, but don't be embarrassed, mommy. I've actually talked about you with some of the other professors."
My eyes had became wide and I felt a sense of pride. "Really?! You've talked about me?"
"Of course I have. You're my favorite and most smartest student. I always speak highly of you."
Her tone was so soft and yet so certain. My world had definitely flipped these past two days and it was a change that felt needed. I felt like I could do anything with Kamala by my side. We pulled into the plaza as we continued talking about school. There were so many stores that we didn't know which one to start with.
Taking my feet off the dash, I turned to Kamala full of excitement. "Okay, which store should we start with first?"
"Hmm, let's see."We both began analyzing every store as our eyes landed on the same one.
"Gucci!" We both said in sync.
We hopped out of the car and made our way into the store. There weren't very many people in the store so our shopping would be a breeze. As we walked in, we were greeted by the workers offering any help. We had both been in Gucci before so we didn't need much help.
"Thank you, but I think we've got it from here." Kamala said, as we started to look at different clothes.
The first thing she wanted to look at was the jewelry of course. She was eyeing a silver rings with the diamonds shining brightly in the light. Her mouth slightly fell so open and the sight was so cute.
"That would look so pretty on your finger."I said, whispering into her ear to where only she could hear.
I could see her body shiver a bit at my words as she slightly bit her lip. From the corner of my eye, I spotted a belt." I'll be right back." I said, walking over to a different part of the store.
It was an all black belt with the two golden G's overlapping each other. There was something so attractive about seeing Kamala wear her belts at school paired with her jeans. I had to get it. I grabbed the belt in the correct size as I brought it back up to the counter. Kamala turned her attention to me as she examined the belt.
"This is so cute, Lura. But, since when have you started wearing belts?"
I grabbed the belt as I handed it to the cashier.
"I don't wear belts. This is for you." I said casually as I started to check out.
"For me?" She said, her tone was almost concerned.
"Yes, for you. You know how to wear a belt pretty damn good and I liked this one so I wanted to get it for you."
She placed her hand on mine as her eyes had softened."You don't have to get me anything, sweet pea."
"Trust me, I want to. Just let me."
As we continued shopping we heard a familiar voice come from behind us.
"Kamala?! Over here!"
We both turned around and as I looked to see who it was, my mood had completely shifted and my irritation began settling in. It was Professor Stanley walking over with a few bags in her hand. Her smile was bright as ever and she was walking over with open arms towards Kamala.
They began hugging and engaging in small talk. Now, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't annoyed. Not with Kamala, but with Stanley. She was too damn touchy all the time and Kamala was a social butterfly so she didn't really catch on to it. As I watched the scene, Stanley's eyes landed on me.
"Hi, you're Allura right?"
I didn't care to talk to her so I kept my responses simple and cute.
"Yep, that's me."
She began walking towards me with her and Kamala holding hands. I took notice but it's not like I could say anything in that moment so I just kept my cool.
She looked between me and Kamala as she kept that smile in tact."It's good to see you, sweetie. But I will admit, I wasn't expecting to see Kamala here or even with a student."
That response felt a little shady so I had to throw a little back. My arms were crossed as I was leaning against the counter.
"Yeah well, we didn't expect to see you here either. And as for seeing me with my Professor, I like to think I'm a little special. Don't you think so Kamala?"
Kamala sensing the tension, quickly intervened to lighten the mood. As she let go of Stanley's hand, she moved closer to me.
"She is special, I will say that. Allura, is my smartest student. I've talked about her a lot."
A smirk formed on my face and I could see that little smile of hers fade just slightly.
"Of course, I remember. She talks about you a lot so must really like you."
There was an awkward silence but I didn't mind it because I loved making someone feel out of place. Kamala was the one to break the silence.
She grabbed her bags and mine before he spoke.
"It was nice seeing you, Amanda. We're gonna head out, I'll see you at school tomorrow."
Her jaws clenched as she forced a smile.
"Enjoy the rest of your day ladies, I'll see you tomorrow."
With that, she walked out of the store and me and Kamala were left alone. I didn't mention the hand holding because if I did, I would probably go off so I kept it to my self for everyone's sake. Kamala placed her hand on my back giving it a gently rub.
"Are you okay, Lura?"
I lied just for the sake of avoiding confrontation.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Are you ready to go to the next store?"
"Let's do it."
As we continued shopping and Kamala was yapping away, I couldn't help but feel a sense of annoyance the rest of the day. As Kamala was shopping, I was still lost in thought. I hadn't even noticed that she stopped talking. She placed her hand over mines as we sat down on one of the benches in the store.
"What's wrong, Lura? And don't say nothing's wrong because I know it is."
I took in a deep breath, wrapping up my thoughts." Okay, I don't like how comfortable Professor Stanley is with touching you. Like, I know we can't tell her about us, but she's just way too comfortable doing that and sometimes I wanna lash out but I don't."
Kamala's eyes softened as she placed her lips on mine. Her lips were always soft and gentle on mine and it's like they could apologize before she ever said a word.
Our foreheads rested against each other, her breath on mine, grounding me.
"I understand, and I could tell it made you upset earlier and I couldn't say anything in front of her. But I promised, from here on out, I won't let her touch me anymore."
I looked up slightly as I met her eyes.
"Do you promise?" I said, my tone softer.
She extended her pinky with a gentle smile. Our fingers interlocked as she kissed them.
"I promise, now let's go home and eat something."
