Chapter 43

forty-one

Against all odds - Minsung [✔]

The distant ringing of the doorbell roused Jisung from his slumber. At first, he was puzzled, but then he realized that he hadn't moved an inch since sleep had overwhelmed him. And Minho hadn't moved either.

At the annoying and relentless ringing, Minho groaned and cursed under his breath, carefully moving Jisung away from his chest without noticing that he was awake anyway.

Minho moved to the door and walked away. Only seconds later, Jisung heard him talk to a couple of people, recognizing the voices as Chan and Seungmin's.

He had no idea why they were here, so he got up and curiously peeked at the demons who were in the kitchen, speaking quietly among themselves. When his eyes fell on the clock, he was shocked to see that it was already past 1 pm... he had stayed in bed all morning.

"What is the reason for this very nice surprise visit?" He heard Minho say, a tinge of sarcasm in his voice as he glared at the two other demons.

"We wanted to check if you guys are still one piece," Chan said, getting right to the point. Interested, Jisung barged in the kitchen and the three other demons looked at him in sync.

"What are you guys talking about?" He asked, not liking the way the air grew colder. Chan's eyes darkened and he frowned.

"It's about what we told you last time we met. It has gotten a lot worse this past week... We've had some trouble in hell," he explained. His serious tone made Jisung figure that this was a really serious matter.

"What happened?" Minho asked sharply, his voice dropping.

"We've found another group of demons actively seeking out bonded humans. They were aggressive when we attacked them, they retaliated with determination. We managed to kill all of them, but I'm afraid there might be more around," Seungmin went on to explain.

"You must keep your mark hidden, Jisung," Chan said worriedly. "I don't understand why they are doing this; it's not like humans are a threat to us. It must be hate that fuels their actions."

"Thank you for warning us," Jisung replied, mirroring his serious expression.

"At this point, it would be safer for both of you if you broke the bond," Seungmin added gravely. "I assume you guys still haven't found a way to do it."

Minho looked at him, confused. "What? You want us to break the bond? You must be crazy," he hissed. "Death is the only way to break the bond."

"And who the fuck told you that false information?" Chan retorted, raising a brow.

"A few months ago, I asked around in hell, and one demon told me that."

"Well then, you are stupid for believing whoever the fuck that demon is," Seungmin sighed, crossing his arms. "I thought you knew better than this, Minho."

"Yeah, yeah, I was going to ask you guys instead, but I knew that you guys would tease me if you found out that I'm bonded with a human," he added.

Jisung's mouth opened wide in disbelief. After all these months of enduring this crap, there was actually a way for their bond to be broken?

"We've asked around, trying to find someone who knows how to break bonds, and we did get an interesting tip. Apparently, there is a blood mage living near Seoul who can do it," Chan said.

"Blood mages are dangerous. You know that," Minho countered, curling his hands to fists. "They could end up killing Jisung in exchange for their help."

Jisung shuddered, not liking this at all, but judging by the determined looks on Chan and Seungmin's faces, they wanted Minho to consider it regardless.

"You should at least meet her and speak to her, maybe it will lead somewhere," Seungmin answered firmly, and Minho looked at him apathetically.

Only then did he remember that Minho can't go out of the house. Saying that was quite stupid of him. "Oh, um, do you mind if I bring a blood mage here?" He restated reluctantly.

Minho sighed and pondered over it for another minute before he took a decision. "Fine, but you stay in your room," he grumbled and gazed at Jisung with stern eyes.

Jisung nodded at him in response. He didn't mind staying in his room at all since encountering a blood mage wasn't particularly something he wanted to experience anyways.

To be continued...
