David slowly rubbed his thumb over the glass, his expression dark and unreadable.

“How long will it take?”

“The fastest would be tonight, the latest by tomorrow.

David’s voice was indifferent. “Once you extract it, begin running comparisons against every DNA record. in the city’s database.

Keep going until you find a match. Understood?”

The chief doctor nodded and said, “Understood. But the genetic database is extensive. The process will take some time. We ask for your patience, Mr. Ellison.

“Do it as quickly as possible.”

Once he found a match, he could track down the father of Caroline’s child.

As she stared at his back, she finally couldn’t hold back her suspicion. “You really took time out of your day to accompany me to a check–up? No ulterior motive at all?”

David didn’t even turn his head. “Do I need a motive?”

“I don’t know. But I do know you wouldn’t be this nice for no reason.”

Something about this felt like a con artist offering a very suspicious deal.

Suddenly, David stopped walking. Caught off guard, Caroline walked straight into him.

Her nose slammed into his firm back, and she winced, scrunching up her entire face in pain. “Hey could you warn me next time?”

Thank god her face was natural–if she’d had plastic surgery, her implants would’ve been knocked out of place!
