Chapter 17 Engagement Turning to Marriage

“It’s too hasty for a wedding now,” said Shen Yuhe. “Perhaps they can apply for the marriage license first?”

Mu Li checked Lin Qing’s reaction, but only found she was absent-minded.

How could she get lost under such circumstances? Was she…thinking of that guy?

“Mu Li, what do you think?”

Shen Yuhe inquired about his opinion.

Mu Li had never thought of flash marriage before. He preferred to get engaged first and consider marriage only when Lin Qing agreed.

But now—

“We have no objection.”

Mu Li smiled at the two elders and said, “We will apply for the license tomorrow.”

Both mothers were excited, proposing they should drink a toast to the marriage.

Lin Qing was still wandering and was then reminded by Mu Li to hold up her glass. She sipped a drink and found it was soft drink, not red wine as other had.

It must be Mu Li who had changed her glass, for fear that she got drunk again.

She still knew nothing about the marriage and therefore wondered why everybody was so happy.

The dinner finished at around ten o’clock. Mrs. Lin declined Mu Li’s offer to drive Lin Qing home.

Lin Qing refused either. “You must go home and have a rest as soon as possible. I can go back with my parents.”

Shen Yuhe therefore regarded Lin Qing as a very considerate girl who was concerned with Mu Li’s health. Only Mu Li knew that it was because Lin Qing simply didn’t want to stay with him.

He grinned and said nothing, watching her family getting on the car.

After their car drove away, Mu Li turned to his father and said, “Dad, do you have something to say to me?”

“Why her?”

Mu Yonghao asked with a look of disapproval, “You have better choices. She is plain.”

“Simple question.”

Mu Li answered, “I want to marry a real person, not her background.”

“Absurd!”

Mu Yonghao was irritated. He glared at his son and could not even utter a word.

Mu Li didn’t want to continue with the topic and said indifferently, “If you have no other issues, I am leaving now.”

“Wait!”

Mu Yonghao stopped Mu Li, “Have you had sex already? Is she pestering you?”

Mu Li changed his face slightly. “Dad, Lin Qing will be your daughter-in-law.”

The implication was that the girl would be our family member and Mu Yonghao should behave like a respected elderly.

Mu Li left with no further utterance.

By this time, in the car of the Lins, Mr. Lin also started a conversation.

“Honey.”

Mr. Lin sighed before saying anything. “I must have known that his family was influential. After all, no ordinary family can afford such residence.

But…I had never expected his father was…Mu Yonghao.

Honey, we are able to provide you with an affluent life and have never thought of marrying you to someone rich or influential…”

Lin Qing was still at loss. “Who is Mu Yonghao? Is there anything wrong with him?”

Mrs. Lin prodded her head and said, “Haven’t you ever heard of Secretary Mu?”

Lin Qing had little knowledge of the title, so she just responded with an “Oh.”

Mrs. Lin felt frustrated at her daughter’s reaction. She pinched her and asked, “What do you mean by ‘oh’? How can you get married with Mu Li in this manner?”

“I…,” Lin Qing suddenly realized what her mother was saying and stared at her unbelievably, “Get married? Mu Li and I? Why?”

Mrs. Lin was speechless.

Lin Qing was woken up by her mother early the next morning. After she dressed up, her mother passed the ID card and residence booklet to her. “You can leave now.”

Lin Qing walked out of her room under the pressure of her mother and found Mu Li was sitting in the living room.

She was supposed to get a marriage license with Mu Li today, but she was the last one to know it.

Actually she was somehow appealed by this progress. Maybe she could forget Chen Qudong easily if she got married with Mu Li and started a new relationship.

She did not sleep till midnight last night and this was her conclusion.

So now, she had nothing to worry about.

Mu Li noticed her peaceful expression and his eyes were deep. However, he took her hand and went downstairs with her after bidding farewell to her parents.
