Chapter 34
My Heartless Alpha
He blinked slowly at first, then more confidently, his eyes seeking mine out.
I was in shock. But when I looked into those grey orbs once more, lacking their usual sparkle, but still wide and open and alive, I broke down.
My arms wrapped around his neck as I sobbed onto his chest. He was strangely quiet, no doubt getting familiar with the medical surroundings. Then his eyes lingered on my bulging stomach.
He stared at it unblinkingly, and I stood as still as a statue allowing him to process this pregnancy. Carefully watching for his reaction when his hand slowly smoothed over my stomach. A smile spread over his features. A soft, loving, protective smile, one that I had never once encountered.
I clasped my palm around his, interlocking our fingers to revel in the sparks, sparks that had lay dormant for weeks but now returned in ferocious waves.
"Are you and the baby alright? Is the pack safe?" His eyes turned wild and serious in an instant.
"We're both ok. We have a healthy baby Ash. We are at a stage where we can find out the gender, but I wanted to wait for you. This is our baby, we'll make the decisions together"
"God this is incredible, you are incredible. You're even more beautiful than I remember, if that's even possible." His eyes sparkled, then closely surveyed me,
"But Have you been eating enough?"
My cheeks flushed with guilt.
" I've tried, I really have, Ive just been so worried about you, eating wasn't the top of my priorities" I guessed I looked more slender than I thought.
"You need to eat now, you're not just eating for yourself, you're eating for our baby." Ash was back to his dominating, obsessive ways in an instant, attempting to sit up yet wincing in pain from the cut down in stomach.
"Right, you are going to pull your stitches apart, lie back down right now Ash, seriously. Ill grab some food in a minute, as long as you don't act rash."
I pushed back on his shoulders, prohibiting him from moving and causing further damage.
Our heads were so close together, so I leant forward and gently pressed my forehead against his and closed my eyes to revel in the love palpable in the air.
His arms slowly wrapped around my waist, before pulling me in for a deep embrace. I was careful to avoid pressing on Ashers injury, so I simply cocooned myself in him, caressing every curve of his body that I had missed so dearly.
I pressed a small kiss to his brow before reluctantly untangling myself from his body.
"I need to go and get a doctor to make sure all your vitals are good, and yes I'll grab some food on the way back"
I retreated from the room quickly, wanting to get back to Ash as quickly as possible. I grabbed the nearest doctor to alert him that Ash was awake then bolted to the canteen and piled a sandwich and a coffee onto a tray before leaving once more. I walked back into Ash's room no more than five minutes after I had left, an action which he addressed by the arch of his brow and a warm smile.
I walked to the bed and into his open arms before sitting onto my chair and unwrapping my sandwich, taking small bites under his watchful glare.
A push on the door alerted Asher and I to the entrance of Doctor Thomas. He bent his neck in submission to Asher before stopping at the end of Ashers bed.
"Alpha, Luna" he acknowledged,
"Alpha, your vitals are looking significantly better, since you've woken up your body has rebooted itself, your werewolf genes now successfully healing your wound. However, your injuries were rather serious, so after I've changed your bandages I'll require you to stay in hospital for tonight then I can discharge you tomorrow morning, just as a precaution in case your body rejects the healing process. Although with Alpha genes there is only a very small chance of that occurring. Still , a precaution"
His dark face lifted in a small, professional smile before he departed the room, a nurse entering moments after to redress Ashers bandages.
I carefully watched as the nurse lifted Ashers top and stripped his bandage off. I was expecting a gory mess, but it appeared like Ashers alpha genes really had been healing him at a quicker rate now he had gained consciousness.
A deep red gash was still present, but thankfully it lacked any sign of infection. The wound was healing.
As soon as the nurse departed Asher sat up, shifting his legs off the bed and onto the ground.
"I'm not staying in this hospital bed any longer, we're leaving"
"Asher, Ash what the hell are you doing?" My eyebrows furrowed as I stormed over to his side, catching him just as he began to sway from standing up after weeks of bed rest, his feet unsteady on the ground.
"For gods sake, you're too heavy I can't keep you up, get back in bed now" I demanded, just managing to sit him back down. My tired muscles ached with exhaustion, and I rubbed my hands over my stomach to calm my breathing, no doubt the baby's heart rate was as erratic as mine.
"Shit, I'm sorry, I wasn't thinking, are you and the baby all right" he flustered around me, hands prodding me anxiously. I batted his hands away,
"Yes, yes I'm fine. You stay put, you're not leaving this bed until you're discharged, you understand?" I snapped.
His face faded into playfulness.
"Yes ma'am" he saluted, beaming at me with a full smile until my seriousness melted away.
I wandered back to my armchair as Asher lay down on the bed, his eyes fluttering closed every now and then.
I put the book that I was reading down on my lap.
"Go to sleep, Ash" I spoke as my fingers were stroking through his hair.
"Hmm" he replied, tiredly smiling at me , before closing his eyes and falling into a deep slumber.
