Chapter 228
Hitched & Hitched Again: A Comedy of Marital Mayhem ( Elysia and Tarquin)
Lowell felt utterly wronged âYou didnât even give me a chance.â
âAnd you⦠you think youâre in the right now?â
Lowell remained silent. Justice lies in the heart of the beholder. Right now, he might be feeling wronged, but he wonât say it out loud. On the other end of the phone, Elysia was all ears. She knew he didnât know about the food.
So, her little rant earlier⦠wasnât unjustified after all!
And it was him who didnât give a proper ear to the matter. Not letting Lowell finish his piece, thatâs on him!
âYouâ¦â
They both started at the same time.
Elysia pouted, âYou go first.â
Tarquin explained, âI didnât know you made Elijah food.â
âOh.â The response was cold.
Tarquin was silent, the tension thick in the air.
Lowell, ever the peacemaker, chimed in, âMs. Thorne, is the food still up for grabs? If so, Tarin and I can swing by and pick it up. Weâre free.â
Elysia retorted, âYou come alone. I donât want to see him.â
Lowell was taken aback. âAh?â
Elysia added, âSeeing him annoys me!â
Tarquin clenched his teeth in silence, seething.
Lowell, with a brave face, said, âAlright, alright, Iâll head over now. Iâll call you when Iâm there.â
*Okay. Elysia hung up.
Lowell quickly grabbed his phone, safeguarding it from Tarquinâs wrath. Given Tarquinâs current mood, dark and stormy, it was best to play it safe.
âRegardless, itâs good news that Ms. Thorne decided to whip up something for Elijah. He hasnât been eating well these days, and today he can finally have a proper meal.â
go.â
Thinking of Elijah, Tarquinâs expression softened noticeably, He shut down his computer, stood up, and donned his jacket. âLetâs Seizing the moment, Lowell suggested, âTodayâs been a good day. How about we take a break? The teamâs been through the wringer lately.â
be day Tarquin, while adjusting his tie, agreed, âGive them two days off. Pay triple salary for this month.â
âRight on.â
The news spread like wildfire among the staff, sparking excitement.
âLowell, was it that phone call that sweetâtalked Mr. Bradford into a good mood?â
âI heard a womanâs voice! Was it, Lowell?â
Lowell squinted. âEavesdropping on the bossâs calls now, are we? Looking for trouble?â
âNo way, I just happened to overhear by chance. So⦠it was that lady on the phone who cheered him up?â
With Lowellâs tacit acknowledgment, excitement burgeoned.
âWow, Mr. Bradford is finally smitten, huh?â
âWhoâs the lucky lady that caught his eye? She must be a real gem!â
âNo wonder Mr. Bradford has been so moody lately. Turns out heâs in love. They say men in love can be so childish, flying off the handle at the slightest thingâ¦â
The office door suddenly opened, and Tarquin stepped out.
The chattering crowd instantly fell silent, quickly returning to their desks as if nothing had happened.
Tarquin, stoneâfaced, strode to the elevator without a word.
09:40 Lowell hurried after him.
As the elevator doors closed, Tarquin asked, âWhoâs in love?â
Lowellâs heart skipped a beat, managing a nervous chuckle, âYou heard that, huh? Just a misunderstanding.â
Tarquin coldly said, âFizone is always looking for volunteers.â
Lowell pleaded, âIâm sorry. Tarquin. I wonât gossip about you again. Rather than sending me to Fizone to mine rocks, you might as well just end me.â
Tarquin replied icily, âIf you donât fancy mining, then quit daydreaming. Elysia and I are never happening!â
âWell, you never know about the future, right?â
âIf I ever end up with her, you can have my CEO spot, and Iâll call you âbossâ.â
After those chilling words, Tarquin stormed out of the elevator.
Lowell was left ponderingâ¦
Should Lowell hold out some hope? Could this be his chance to rise?
