Her Beautiful Innocence

A/N: Don't forget to VOTE, thankร‚ย you! This is a filler chapter, btw, so it'll be boring lol.

Sophia's POV

I had to walk home from school, again. My mom texted me, saying she couldn't pick me up and that we had to talk after her work. I wasn't freaking out, but it sounded a bit major.

'It's nothing too serious,'ร‚ย she had sent. She knows me so well, I thought, shaking my head and relaxing my tense posture.

I unlocked the front door and went inside. It was pretty hot here, so I put my hair up in a messy ponytail and went to the kitchen, pouring myself a glass of fresh water.

I took a sip and sighed, leaning against the counter. School started again, I thought. My brain hadn't quite processed that part yet. It felt like vacation just started. I didn't want to start doing homework again and study for tests, I wanted to lie down and watch Gossip Girl with Liv.

Liv, oh my God! I still have to tell her everything that happened with Grayson! I knew she'd want to know about him. I smiled at the thought.

I didn't know if I could consider Grayson a 'friend', but we were school buddies, right? Maybe not even that, but either way, I was going to tell her everything.

I took out my phone and went to messages. I didn't have Snapchat or Instagram; my parents didn't allow it. At first, I begged them to give me permission, but they convinced me that it was too dangerous. There are a lot of pedophiles and cyber-bullies on the internet.

Before I could press the call button, my phone started ringing by itself. I picked up and pulled the phone away from my ear after hearing Liv's squeals.

I giggled when her voice finally met my ears. "Oh my God, Sophia!" she drawled out. "How are you? I miss you so, so much and it hasn't even been longer than a week since I've seen you!"

"Hey! I'm fine, what about you? And I knooow, it feels, like, way too long already. I miss you, too!" I laughed into the phone.

"I'm great now that you called!" she said, and I smiled. I didn't know you could miss someone's voice so much until now. "But before you tell me all about Grayson," she made sure to emphasize his name and I was certain that she was wiggling her eyebrows, "we need to make plans together."

I nodded, even though she couldn't see me, and then answered, "Yes, totally! Maybe this weekend. If you're free, of course. I don't want to mess up your plans."

I wasn't seeing her right now, but I knew that she was rolling her eyes at my concern. I was always scared of being a burden. "I see you haven't changed at all," she said, chuckling shortly.

"It hasn't been that long, only a week or so," I stated.

"You know what I mean."

I ran upstairs and started pacing my bedroom as I chatted with Liv. It felt so good to finally catch up with her again. She told me all about Ben - short for Benjamin, the guy she has a huge crush on - and that they are kinda a couple. It's not official, but they both liked each other.

"I know! We're, like, basically together. Amazing, isn't it?" she said as if it were unbelievable, I could hear the smile in her voice. A gigantic grin made its way on my face, from my mouth to my ears, and I couldn't control it.

"Liv, I really am happy for you."

"Thanks, Soph. That does mean a lot to me. But let's not talk about that anymore, I want to hear everything about Grayson," she said, probably grinning like a maniac.

I giggled, my cheeks undeniably turned a bright pink and I jumped on my bed, laying on my stomach.

-

We talked for hours, which consisted mostly of me gossiping about Grayson and explaining her how Godly he looked in the sunlight. She gave me a lot of advice and I was definitely going to follow her path, she knew a bunch more about boys than I ever will.

I also told her about Logan and that "Weasley Boy" as Logan called him. I mentioned Natalie and Evie once or twice, and I certainly did not forget about the indecent I witnessed with Grayson and Shawn.

Liv hummed and gasped and made all sorts of noises, telling me she was listening and wanted me to continue.

When the clock read 5:45 pm, we decided to call it a day. We made a rendez-vous at my house on Friday, after school she'll come to my house and stay here 'til Saturday, so basically a sleepover. I already got eager and couldn't wait.

Skipping down the stairs to the kitchen, I felt my tummy rumble. I realised I hadn't eaten since I got here. I was welcomed by my mom, standing with her back to me and making dinner.

"What are you doing here? I didn't hear you come in," I asked surprised.

She turned around and gave me a warm smile. "I heard you talking to someone on the phone and didn't feel the need to disturb," she replied. And people wonder where I got my niceness from.

"Mom, that wouldn't have been a problem, you know that right?" I said, giving her a quick hug.

I recalled her telling me that we had to talk about something, so jumping on one of the counter tops, my legs dangling from it, I mentioned, "You told me you have to tell me something..." She didn't text me what it was about exactly, so I trailed off.

"Oh, right," she said and then sighed almost sadly as she looked over her shoulder. "It's about school."

My nerves spiked up and I sat up straighter. I didn't skip school, did I? No, of course not, I would remember if I did. Not that I ever would, but whatever. Is it about my grades? We didn't even have any tests yetรขย€ย”

"Stop worrying, Darling. It's got nothing to do with your grades," she said quickly, seeing my anxious expression. I let out a breath of relief and slumped back down. "What is it about then?" I queried curiously.

"When my boss gave me my promotion, my office didn't just switch places, but the time also changed." Huh? I didn't understand.

"I have to work later from now on, so I won't be able to come get you after school anymore," she clarified. Before I could even open my mouth, she apologised. "I'm sorry, Honey. I can ask my boss if she can transform my work hours a bitรขย€ย”"

"Mom, mom, it's fine," I laughed. "I'll just walk back from school, no biggie. I can even walk to school in the morning, you know. If it'll help, of course," I shrugged as if it were nothing.

While she added salt to the pot on the stove, she sighed again, but this time in appreciation. "Thank you, that'd be great, actually."

"No problem," I told her. She always helped me out and did her best to make me happy, so why not do something for her for a change.

She looked at me, grateful for my cooperation, and smiled. "Dinner's almost ready, can you please set the table for me. Your dad's going to be home soon."

I nodded and jumped from the counter, grabbing all the needed utensils and plates, and displayed them on the table. "Done," I sang out.

My mom looked over her shoulder at me, raising her brows. "And why are you so energetic, may I ask?"

I grinned wildly, while dancing up and down. "Liv and I agreed to have a sleepรขย€ย”Oh my gosh, I'm sorry, Mom!" I stopped myself. "I forgot to ask you if it was okay if Liv could come here on Friday 'til Saturday."

She chuckled, bobbing her head from side to side. "That's alright. And yes, I am granting you my permission," she said in a fancy-like voice. Me and my mom, as you may have already guessed, are not just family, but we're really like close friends, too. I love that about our relationship.

The blaring of my alarm clock sadly didn't quite make my morning so wonderful.

I made a sound between a grumble and a moan when I fell out of bed onto the carpet floor. Again? Seriously? I thought annoyed.

I sluggishly walked toward the bathroom and took a hot shower, which immediately eased my muscles. I kept my hair dry this time, not wanting to have to dry it again. I washed my body and face, rubbing the sleep from my eyes.

I stepped out of the shower and wrapped myself in my soft, white towel that hung onto the railing. I sprayed my vanilla-scented body mist on me and inhaled it, content.

I opened the doors to my dresser and searched through all my clothes for the perfect outfit for today. Once again, the sun was shining and it wasn't cold at all. There were light breezes coming and going now and then, but nothing major.

(Sophia's outfit)

When I was satisfied, I packed my bag for school and went downstairs. "Hey, Dad. Hey, Moรขย€ย”where's Mom?" I asked when I only saw my dad drinking his coffee.

"Good morning, and she's already out of the door," he answered.

"Already?" I asked, he hummed. Hm, she left earlier than normal.

"I'm leaving too soon. I was about to make sure that you're awake." I nodded my head slowly and grabbed a bowl for my cereal, then sat down at the table.

"Okay," my dad said, sipping the last of his now empty cup. "I'm headin' out now. You alright on your own?"

"Yeah, I'm leaving in a few seconds as well." I finished my bowl and put it in the dishwasher.

"See you tonight, Sweetheart," he kissed my forehead and walked toward the front door.

After a few minutes of doing all that's necessary, I left the house, still in a good mood from yesterday. Liv and I were going to have a movie marathon, just like we had when we were little, I smiled at the thought.

I reached school in time and sighed heavily when the bell rang just as I entered the school gates. Here goes another day. My third day hereรขย€ย”only a whole school year, minus two days, to goรขย€ย”and I didn't know if that was something to be joyful about or not.

But the only thing I can think of is: we'll have to see, I guess.
