Contract Marriage With The Disabled CEO
Chapter 55 Do You Want a Divorce?
âMom!â Betty glared at Sherry and said in a reproachful tone.
âIâm just worried. You were settled when I was in a coma. I have no idea what he is like,â Sherry complained in an undertone.
âIt doesnât matter, Betty.â Compared with Betty who was embarrassed, Kerwin kept his cool. âMrs.
White, my business card.â
Sherry took the business card and got startled at the titles like âCEOâ on the business card.
âTylman Group. I havenât heard it before.â She hesitated. âWhat about your parents? What are they?â
While Betty felt uneasy and wanted to stop her mom from asking, Kerwin said calmly, âMy parents were gone. My grandfather is Bruce Martin.â
âBruce Martin?â Sherry was taken by surprise, âThe master of the Martin family.â
Tylman Group was the latest group that developed these years, so Sherry hadnât heard of it. But she had heard âBruce Martinâ. To be more exact, Bruce Martin was known to everyone in Chicago.
âSO⦠You areâ¦â Sherry recalled. âThe second son of the Martin family?â
Kerwin nodded.
Sherryâs face blanched. She was too shocked to say a word.
âWell⦠Kerwin.â Betty knew what her mom was thinking. She tried to change the subject. âWell, Kerwin, I want to go back home to take a shower. Could you send me home? You get into the car first and wait for me.â
Kerwin nodded his head and said to Sherry, âMrs. White, Iâll come to see you tomorrow. Have a good rest.â
Sherry nodded with a pale face and saw Kerwin off.
Once Kerwin left, Sherry darted a look at Betty and said in a weak but determined tone, âBetty, you canât stay with that man. Divorce him!â
Betty shivered and looked at Sherry in disbelief. âMom, what did you say?â
âYou canât be with him.â Sherry gripped Bettyâs hand. âYou have seen how it works for poor women to stay with rich guys, havenât you? How do you know heâs your true lover? I doubt it. Maybe he only wants to play with you. Just like your dad!â
Bettyâs face turned pale. âMom, he wonât. He and I have got the marriage certificate.â
âSo what? Perhaps he needs a nominal wife.â Sherry was very clear-minded, though sheâd been unconscious for two years. âHeâs such a great man. What makes you feel like he truly loves an ordinary woman like you?â
Betty was choked.
She actually agreed with Sherry. When they just got married, Betty knew that Kerwin wanted a marriage and whoever he married didnât matter. But what Sherry didnât know was, that Betty married him to get a resident certificate. They took what they needed and neither of them could judge each other.
âMom,â she avoided answering Sherryâs questions. âKerwin is nice to me.â
She told the truth. Though they were not very close to each other, she admitted that he was nice to her.
Every time she was in bad need, he could appear and offer a hand. Like, he helped her with her momâs surgery.
âBetty, youâre too silly! Itâs just an act.â Sherry was anxious. âCouldnât you learn a lesson from me? I just wish you could live a happy life⦠Iâm really afraid youâll be fooled and ruined by a man, just like me.â
Sherry choked with sobs.
Seeing this, Betty felt heartbroken. She hugged Sherry. âMom, calm down. You canât get too excited as you just had surgery. To level with you, I married him for residency in Chicago and Medicaid. I have no feelings for him.â
Sherry stopped crying at Bettyâs words. She looked up at Betty in shock. âReally?â
âSure.â Betty looked at Sherry. âMom, canât you tell I have no feelings for him?â
Sherry raised Betty up and they lived together for many years, so she understood Betty very well. She could tell whether Betty loved a man or not.
Sherry felt relieved and reminded Betty, âBetty, promise me, find a proper time to divorce him.â
Betty never thought of divorcing Kerwin. Regardless of their purposes of getting married or Kerwinâs status, she would never ask for a divorce.
Seeing Sherryâs imploring look and pale face, Betty gave in. âOK, Mom. I promise you.â
Sherry heaved a sigh of relief and couldnât help feeling guilty. âBetty, I burdened you. Once you get divorced, itâll be harder to find a good match.â
Bettyâs eyes glinted. She hugged Sherry. âThatâs okay, Mom. I can live happily as long as youâre by my side.â
Betty coaxed Sherry into sleeping. She packed up her stuff and was about to leave, but she froze when she saw the file packet on the nightstand.
It should be Kerwinâs. Does he forget to take it?
Betty put the file packet into her bag and left the ward.
On the other side, Kerwin wheeled himself into the car. Peter who was in the passenger seat was surprised. âMr. Martin, what took you so long?â
Kerwin didnât reply.
Peter turned his head and took a look. Then he saw Kerwinâs cold gaze which sent shivers down his spines.
What happened? Mr. Martin looked delighted before he went to take the file packet. But now his face looks so grim and scary.
Ten minutes later, Betty got into the car with the file packet in her hand. âKerwin, is it yours?â
Kerwin didnât reach out to take it. He tilted his head and looked at Betty. His face betrayed no emotions.
Betty was scared of his sharp gaze and asked tentatively, âKerwin, whatâs up?â
Kerwin looked at Bettyâs anxious look and thought of what he overheard at the ward door.
I married him for residency in Chicago and Medicaid. I have no feelings for him.
Hehe.
Sheâs quite honest with her mom.
Though he had known the reason why Betty married him, he still felt annoyed when he heard it from her.
Damn it.
Now she could affect his emotions more easily.
âBetty,â Kerwin didnât take the packet but suddenly said coldly. âDo you want a divorce?â
