Contract Marriage With The Disabled CEO
Chapter 45 Feeling Attached to Her Job Jeffrey didnât expect Kerwin to react like that.
He thought Kerwin would be furious and cut ties with Betty.
However, he didnât even care about the photos. Or maybe he didnât doubt Bettyâs character at all.
Thinking of that, Jeffrey felt tight in his chest.
Why did Kerwin trust Betty so much? And was it more than a one-night stand between the two of them?
Jeffrey had been in a relationship with Betty for many years. However, when he saw these photos, he thought Betty was a flirtatious woman without thinking.
Is it because I donât trust her enough?
When this thought came to his mind, Jeffrey was distracted and forced himself not to think that way.
Since he had photos to prove his point, how could he have misunderstood her?
Thatâs only because Kerwin doesnât care about Betty at all, so he doesnât mind what kind of person she is.
âJeffrey, you seem to be very interested in my wife.â At that moment, Kerwin suddenly spoke, interrupting Jeffreyâs thoughts.
Jeffreyâs body stiffened.
When he looked up at Kerwin, Jeffrey suddenly realized that he was like a clown.
Although Kerwin was in a wheelchair, he looked domineering and graceful.
Jeffrey suddenly remembered that his father had mentioned Kerwin to him several times. Moreover, his arrogant father even told Jeffrey that if Kerwin had no disability, he was no match for Kerwin.
Then Jeffrey had mixed feelings.
He used to think he was a golden boy, but he realized that he was no match for Kerwin.
Although he did not understand why he had to compare with Kerwin, his realization upset him.
He sneered. âAre you just a little concerned about her? Kerwin, you probably donât know that Betty was with me when she was in college.â
Jeffrey deliberately said in a flirtatious tone. It seemed as if he wanted to provoke Kerwin.
However, Jeffreyâs words angered Kerwin.
Soon, Kerwin clenched his hands as he sneered. âIs that so?â
His cold and angry tone sent shivers down Jeffreyâs spine.
Jeffrey then realized he seemed to have gone too far. He blushed, then said in a gentle tone, âKerwin, donât take it personally. Sheâs just a woman. Iâm only asking because Iâm worried your wife will be upset when she finds out about Betty.â
The identity of Kerwinâs new wife was also very mysterious.
It was said that Jeffreyâs grandfather was bent on having a daughter of an influential family as Kerwinâs wife. And his father was originally worried that Kerwinâs marriage would bring him power, but he didnât expect Kerwin to suddenly say he was already married to a girl from an ordinary family.
Although Jeffrey had been back home for a while, he hadnât met Kerwinâs wife yet.
Kerwin gave Jeffrey a sidelong glance and remained silent.
Jeffrey realized he was talking a little too much and looked a little embarrassed. Then he said, âI have received an anonymous e-mail.â
âAnonymous?â repeated Kerwin.
Jeffrey nodded and said, âKerwin, donât blame me for talking too much. Betty is flirtatious, and she has a bad reputation at the office, so donâtââ.
âJeffrey,â Kerwin interrupted Jeffrey and said in an unpleasant tone. âDonât you realize that youâve crossed the line?â
Jeffrey said, âIâm sorry, Kerwin.â
âWell, Jeffrey, if you donât have anything else to say to me, I will go home.â Kerwin straightened his collar and said, âMy wife is still waiting for me at home.â
He said as he wheeled out of the Icafe.
When Kerwin returned to the car and sat down, Peter, who was sitting in the passenger seat, felt that the atmosphere in the car was very heavy today.
âPeter,â Kerwin suddenly said. âAny progress on what I asked you to investigate last time!â
Peter flinched for a moment before he responded, âAre you talking about the incident that happened to Mrs. Martin two years ago?â
âYes.â
âItâs been a bit long since that happened, so I still need more time to look into it.â
âYou go check a recent email Jeffrey received that has something to do with that incident.â
âOkay. I got it.â
Kerwinâs fingers tapped on the armrest of his wheelchair, and his eyes clouded over.
If someone dared to set Betty up, then he would never spare that person.
When Kerwin saw Jeffrey walking out of Icafe, his eyes turned even colder.
He had heard that Jeffrey had no more feelings for Betty and seemed to be getting married soon.
However, it seemed that Jeffrey was a little overly concerned about Bettyâs relationship with Kerwin.
Then Kerwin sneered.
And he didnât think heâd ever be jealous of his nephew.
Meanwhile, Betty didnât even know how she was going to get through the day.
When it was time to get off work, she couldnât wait to leave the office.
Betty didnât expect to see Jeffrey when she went back home, for he usually came home late. Kerwin was already waiting for her in the living room.
âWhere are Maria and James?â Betty tried not to let Kerwin see that she was in a bad mood. Then she took off her shoes and walked into the living room.
âI gave them the day off.â Since there was no one else in the house, Kerwin got up from his wheelchair and took the dishes out of the kitchen. âDinner is ready. Letâs eat.â
Betty rubbed her red eyes, nodded, and walked to the dining room.
During the dinner, Betty and Kerwin were both preoccupied and remained silent.
Then Kerwin finished his dinner first and said in a lower voice, âBetty, have you considered a new job?â
Betty didnât expect Kerwin to bring this up and froze for a moment. âWhy do you want me to change my job?â
Looking at Betty, Kerwin said, âYour company is too far from home, and the pay is average. You can find a better company to work for.â
Betty knew that no matter what industry she was in, she would have a higher salary if she jumped ship.
If it werenât for her motherâs illness, she might have gone to work for another company.
However, her momâs monthly medical bills were so expensive that she couldnât afford to change to a new job.
And she couldnât tell Kerwin what was on her mind, so she pursed her lips and said, âForget it. Iâm very pleased with my job. I feel attached to it.â
Kerwin suddenly clenched his hand as he said, âYou feel attached to it?â
