Chapter 37
Husband
Chapter 37
Samuel reluctantly stepped into the bathtub, and Vera made sure the liquid reached every part of him. Despite what Ramon told her, Vera tested it on herself before using it on Samuel.
They couldnât use a towel to dry Samuel but had to dry him according to Ramonâs instructions. It took several repeats before they achieved the desired results.
Catherine woke up half an hour later and realized Samuel wasnât in the room. She ran out to look for him. âUncle James, whereâs Samuel?â
Catherine would always see Samuel thing in the morning, so she was anxious when she couldnât find him. âDid Samuel get taken away by Daddy?â
âOf course not. James grinned and lifted Catherine into his arms. The bathroom door opened, revealing a darkâskinned boy. He was frowning, seemingly quite disgruntled with his new appearance.
Catherine jumped. âWhoâre you? Why are you here?â
Samuel leveled a glare at her. âTake a good look, then tell me who I am.â
âSamuel!â Catherine recognized him instantly by his voice. She leaped out of Jamesâs arms, ran to Samuel, and poked his face curiously. âWhatâs up with you? Why do you look different?â His skin color didnât rub off.
Catherine grabbed Samuelâs hand next and rubbed it. He didnât fade at all.
When Catherine saw Vera come out of the bathroom, she asked in admiration, âMommy, is this magic? Is that how you turn Samuel like this? I wouldnât know itâs him if he doesnât talk.â
Vera was pleased with how it turned out. âIf you canât recognize him, no one else will.â
Samuel was grumpy. âBut I donât look as good as Neil now.â
âAccording to who?â James comforted Samuel. âA real man should look tough. You look much tougher with your darker skin.â
Samuel pouted. âHow old do you think I am? Three?â None of the men in the Ford family was as dark as him, but they were all tough.
âSamuel, donât sweat it. It wonât last. Youâll slowly return to normal after half a month.â Vera thought her son was instead upset with the new haircut she had given him. She wasnât good at trimming hair and had accidentally messed up. She ended up cutting Samuelâs hair short and thinning his eyebrows.
Even if Carlos and Samuel were to stand together now, no one would believe they were related.
âThatâs ages.â Samuel ran his fingers through his hair unhappily. It would take a long time to go back to how he looked.
Vera could only give her son a wish card to compensate for his âsacrifice.â
Catherine was envious. She also wanted a wish card. Once, she wished to have an island on her fifth birthday, and Vera bought her one. There was even a castle on the island, just like in fairy tales.
âAlright. Letâs have breakfast,â Vera ushered.
After breakfast, Vera showed up at the Monroe familyâs villa as agreed, while James took the two children to kindergarten. It was just a bummer that Vera ended up running into Averie again.
