Chapter 219
Two Times The Charm Novel (Clara and Emmett)
âEmmett!â Clara clutched his hand, shaking her head at him.
She didnât want to see the mother and son fighting because of her. She really didnât give a hoot about Sophiaâs nitpicking! It even made her happy, because Sophia was so loving to her grandsons. She just didnât know how to convince him of this.
âMom, if you keep nitpicking, thereâs no way Iâm gonna let my woman put up with you.â
Seeing her son really pissed off, Sophia glanced at Clara, softening up a bit.
âClara, look, I havenât blamed you for anything! Like you said before, I donât have solid proof, itâs all just guesses, How have I misunderstood you?â
Clara nodded hastily, âExactly! You havenât misunderstood me, you were just reminding me. Sophia, donât be mad, Emmettâs just been swamped at work lately, and heâs a bit moody, Iâll talk him down later!
You should go rest.â
âAlright then, you two have a good chat!â Sophia said and left.
Emmett frowned at her. âIf you give in to her this time, thereâll be a next time!â
âDidnât your mom say it? Sheâs not blaming me! Just taking precautions.â Clara squeezed his hand, âShe already backed down just now, so donât push her anymore! Weâre family; we have to get along.â
He could only feel helpless with her constant concessions.
âYouâre just gonna make me worry more.â
âWhat are you worried about? Clara said with a smile, warmth filling her heart, âI have you and the boys looking out for me, Iâm feeling great! Even if Iâm truly been misunderstood one day, I can take it. Iâve always thought life is fair. It gave me such a happy family, and itâs only fair I get misunderstood a bit.â
Emmett wanted to say something, but Clara had already hugged him tight âLetâs put this behind us, okay? Letâs go change and tidy up, take the kids out. Donât let this hiccup ruin our time with the kids! You and your mom already talked it out. Sheâs mellowed out a lot, probably thinking it over! If we keep dwelling on this, it might make things worse.â
âI just donât want you to be hurt.â
He was a tough guy. He canât just stand by and watch his wife get blamed. Even if the one doing it was his own mother, he couldnât just let her maliciously slander his wife without any valid evidence.
âI really wasnât hurt!â Clara pulled him along, âLetâs go change! The kids will be done with their homework soon, weâre on kid duty today.â
ââ¦Alright.â
In the kidsâ room, Alex was holding a piece of candy, standing by the bed licking it.
In comparison, Aiden seemed more anxious. He was pacing back and forth in front of the desk, âDo you think momâs being bullied? I wonder if grandma and our parents are arguing.â
Alex said, âShould I go check it out?â
âNo, you better not.â Aiden held him back, âGrandma deliberately separated us earlier, obviously she didnât want us involved.â âBut we canât just sit this one out!â Alex frowned, not quite understanding his brotherâs approach, âItâs uncomfortable seeing mom constantly getting blamed by grandma.â
