âI think I can help.â
The moment Urulas said so, others looked at him.
âCan you? How?â Arthur asked. He still didnât trust him.
Urulas replied, âFirst, I need to examine her condition.â
âDo it,â Arthur permitted him.
Urulas and the two other elves examined Veronicaâs body. Their faces darkened after they were done.
âWitchcraft,â one of Urulasâ fellows mumbled in a low tone.
âItâs poison from the witch,â Ovior said. âWe already know it. If we only find what plant they used to make it, I could make the antidote.â
âYou canât. No one can,â Urulas stated.
.....
Arthur frowned. âWhat do you mean?â
Urulas told him, âThe witches didnât create the poison from any plant.â
Others were stunned. They didnât know what to say.
They clearly saw Veronica being like this because she drank something.
The wine wasnât the issue because Ovior drank the same wine.
There must be some kind of poison or why would it harm Veronica?
âIf itâs not a poison from a plant then what did they use?â Felix asked.
Urulas explained, âThey created it using black magic. Itâs a curse.â
Ovior was enlightened by the information.
He remarked, âNot a poison but a curse. I never thought about it. How to break the curse?â
Urulas shook his head. âYou canât. It has no cure.â
âNo cure?!â Darius exclaimed. âHowâs that possible?â
Arthur quietly stared at him but he was anxious.
Urulas answered, âItâs possible. The witch who gave Veronica the poison didnât want her to get better ever again.
âOnce itâs taken, there is only one path left for you. Itâs death.
âIt means the person knew she was going to die from taking it.â
âThat bitch!â Zinnia cursed. âIâm shocked the bloody queen would attack Arthur so ruthlessly.â
Ovior stated, âSince she attacked Arthurâs weakest point, I assume she is prepared for the battle. After all, Arthur wonât let it go easily.â
Everyone looked grim.
Arthur asked Urulas, âDidnât you say you have an idea? Do you think you can heal her?â
Urulas answered, âIf it was someone else, there was no other option but since itâs Veronica, we have a chance.â
Saying that he opened his bag and took out a flower.
It was a flower that no one ever saw before.
The flower had five long petals leaning toward the back. It had a burning orange color.
It became yellowish to the core and reddish to the edge.
The flower looked like a small piece of sun, glowing in the sunlight, just like some magic stone that lit up in the dark.
Urulas looked at the fellow elves and signaled them to assist them.
They used the stone bowl that was on the table and sashed the flower there.
The more they smashed the flower, the more the smell of blood thickened.
Even Arthur, who was known for his bloodthirst, furrowed his eyebrows.
âWhatâs with this flower? Why is it spilling blood?â he asked.
Urulas explained, âThis is called âthe Blood of the Sunâ. It is born once in a millennium.
âItâs a mixture of the dragonâs blood and the virgin blessed child.
âThe dragon is the protector of the earth while the blessed child is a connection between Goddess Juvena and all living creatures.
âWhile the blessed child canât use her power to heal herself, the Blood of the Sun is the only thing that can give her instant recovery.â
âThat means Veronica will wake up after she drinks it,â Zinnia said with a smile. She was relieved to hear that.
âI cannot say for sure,â Urulas told them while shaking his head. âItâs possible to heal the blessed child as long as she is alive. On the other hand, Veronica isâ¦â
âShe IS alive.â Arthur hardened his face. âShe is breathing.â
âI canât be sure about that. Her body is as cold as a dead body,â Ovior spoke in his mind but didnât utter a single word.
âIf this flower is born in a millennium, does that mean itâs a millennium-old flower?â Felix asked, curious about the origin of the floor.
âNot at all. It was born recently and I believe it was created with Veronicaâs blood,â Urulas answered
âVeronicaâs blood when she was a virgin along with dragonâs blood?â Ovior was surprised. âI donât think she ever told me that she met a dragon.â
âThere are many things we donât know about her,â Darius mentioned. âThere is no point in talking about that.
âThe question is where she met the dragon. I havenât recently heard of any dragon awakened because of the blessed child.â
âIf the ancient being was awakened, we, elves, would know before anyone. We have a strong blood connection with the dragon. We didnât notice anything,â Urulas stated.
âWe can ask Veronica once she wakes up,â Arthur said. âHow long will it take to create the antidote?â
A fellow elf handed the bowl to Urulasâ hand.
âItâs done,â Urulas declared. âPlease help Veronica to sit.â
Arthur immediately sat on the edge of the bed and carefully assisted Veronicaâs unconscious body to sit.
Urulas sat on the other side and fed Veronica the thick red liquid spoon by spoon.
The others noticed the liquid glow yellow as it slipped through Veronicaâs throat to her stomach.
âIf this curse of the witch is fed a small amount almost every day, a woman will lose her fertility,â Urulas suddenly mentioned.
Arthur and the rest were startled when they heard the news.
Arthurâs face was overcast with dark shadow.
His confusion became clear. He was hoping that Veronica would be pregnant right after she came back from the kidnapping incident.
However, no matter how much he tried, Veronica never showed pregnancy symptoms.
He doubted that Veronica was taking some medicine to have birth control.
Even so, he didnât pursue this matter or push her.
Eventually, he pushed away the subject as they became busier with their duties as well as Queen Isabellaâs scheme.
âIf only I paid attention to herâ¦â
Arthur shut his eyes and blamed himself for everything.
As if Ovior could read his mind. He said, âItâs not your fault. Donât blame yourself.â
Then, he looked at Veronica and asked Urulas, âYou already fed her the antidote. Why isnât she waking up yet?â
