Chapter 464 - 464 ARTHUR CHANGED
Tangled By Fate
464 ARTHUR CHANGED
The kitchen and the dining hall were quieter than usual.
Veronicaâs head was still occupied with Arthurâs recent behavior. Thus, she didnât notice it.
Arthur ordered breakfast for both of them and sat in their usual seats.
Thatâs when Darius strode forward.
âArthur, Veronica, have you heard the news?â he asked excitedly.
Veronica came back to her senses and asked him in return, âWhat news?â
âHis soldiers were defeated by the villagers. They even declared their lands free.â
Darius couldnât conceal his excitement.
Veronicaâs face brightened up instantly.
.....
âIs that true?! Thatâs good news! But how did they win against soldiers? They are merely farmers, fishermen and businessmen.â
Darius lowered his voice and said, âThatâs because we went to fight along with them.â
After that, he winked at her.
Veronica chuckled. âYou shouldnât have done that without me. I missed all the fun.â
Darius scratched his head. âWell, we wanted to but then we went to look for you, you were sleeping.â
âAhh! I slept on time!â Veronica cupped her head.
Arthur patted her back to comfort her. âItâs all right. Their fight hasnât ended yet. If you want adventure, you can go today.â
Veronica was stunned by his remark. She looked at him with her wide-open eyes.
She couldnât believe his words.
How could she?
The most protective husband on earth was acting like a doting husband.
It was the first time.
Arthur noticed her eyes full of disbelief. He was hurt.
âJust how ruthless does she think I am?â he wondered.
âYou can go with them if you want,â he said once again.
âCan I really?â Veronica carefully asked.
âYes,â Arthur replied readily.
Veronica raised an eyebrow. âWithout any bodyguard?â
âYou are your own bodyguard. Do you think you need one?â Arthur casually answered.
Veronica was astonished. Even more, she was impressed by his attitude.
She wasnât able to think further as Darius slapped her back.
âNow that you are permitted to go out, letâs go for some hunting,â he said with a grin.
Arthur knitted his eyebrow. âWhat permission? My wife doesnât need anyoneâs permission. She is the Mistress of the Magic Tower. She can do whatever she wants to do without anyoneâs permission. If she wants to destroy the Magic Tower, she can do so.â
Darius was speechless.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
The magicians who heard Arthurâs declaration went livid.
âMaster, what are you saying?!â
âAre you trying to destroy everything we built so far?!â
âMaster, how can you talk about destroying the most powerful building on earth? So ominous!â
They were stunned and complained in their hearts but dared not to voice their opinion.
They fearfully glanced at their Mistress and gulped.
âRomance is scary,â they all thought in unison.
Without knowing what they were thinking, Veronica stole a glance at Arthur.
âThere is something wrong with him today. He is acting totally different,â she pondered. âWhat happened to him?â
Later, Catherine came to the dining hall in a hurry. She quickly ordered her meal and sat on the usual spot.
âWhy are you in a hurry?â Veronica asked her.
âOh, Ver!â Catherine was startled as if she didnât notice Veronica.
Veronica narrowed her eyes. âDid⦠something happen?â
âI woke up late!â Catherine hissed.
Veronica gave her an odd expression. âCathy, today is Sunday. Itâs the weekend.â
âI know! Thatâs why Iâm panicked.â
Veronica was even more confused.
âWhat is wrong with these people? Why is everyone acting strange?â she wondered.
Before she could finish her meal, Catherine was done with hers and dashed away.
âI hope everything is fine with her,â she muttered looking at her best friendâs back.
âShe will be fine. You must take care of yourself when you are out there tonight. You hear me?â Arthur mentioned.
His sweetness was too sudden. It was so new to her that she didnât get used to it yet.
Her heart softened from his care and support.
She gazed at him and softly answered, âMm, I hear you.â
After breakfast, Veronica went to Oviorâs room.
âSebastian said that you were looking for me,â she said. âDid something happen?â
âI heard you are going to fight against Dukeâs men tonight,â Ovior remarked.
Veronica didnât deny it. âThatâs my plan for the night.â
âI got news from my intel. They told me that Duke is going to buy some slaves tonight,â Ovior calmly disclosed the information.
Veronicaâs eyes constricted. âSlaves? Itâs forbidden and Arthur and Imperial guards got rid of the slave traders.â
Ovior sneered. âAnd why do you think they still exist if Imperial guards can get rid of them?â
From his attitude, Veronica could guess it.
âSomeone must be more powerful than the imperial guards supporting this slavery. The person must be from the Imperial family. If Duke De la Pole can buy slaves so easily, the person behind slavery must be the Queen.â
The corner of Oviorâs lips slightly lifted for a second before it disappeared.
He stated, âYour deduction is correct. Our beloved Queen is really the mastermind of all the crimes we want to eliminate from society.â
He intertwined his fingers and stared at Veronica.
âSo, what will you do?â he asked. âDo you want to fight the Dukeâs men or fight him instead?â
Veronicaâs emerald eyes gleamed.
âââ
Later, at night, Duke De la Pole went to the slave market. The traders were holding an auction.
The traderâs assistant came to meet him. âSir, please come with me. Iâll escort you to your seat.â
As the noblemen were all wearing masks to keep their identity a secret, no one could mention each otherâs names even if they recognize each other.
After all, it wasnât a social gathering but one of the most heinous crime arenas.
Duke De la Pole was escorted to his seat. He expressed his satisfaction when he looked at the stage.
Although the men on the stage looked skinny, dirty, hungry and thirsty, they seemed strong.
âThis time, Iâll get some good products,â just thinking that Duke De la pole grinned.
The auction started soon. Duke De la Pole won most of the time and took many good slaves.
Other nobles envied him. They snorted and clicked their tongues in annoyance.
.....
Duke De la Pole sneered after hearing their dissatisfaction.
âThey can get mad all they want but todayâs winner is me.â He smirked triumphantly.
âAre you thinking that you are tonightâs winner?â
