Chapter 456
Tangled By Fate
When Sebastian and other assassins served meals to the crews, they jumped over the food crazily.
As slaves, they didnât have a proper meal for decades.
The smell of the delicious food and the taste of fresh meals reminded them of their good days.
They cried in joy and thanked Sebastian and others feeling grateful.
Sebastian left the assassins in charge and went to the Captainâs room. Ovior was there.
He reported, âSecond Master, Iâve done according to your wish. I left one captain in the sea so that he can swim back to the shore and tell everyone that their ships are destroyed.â
Ovior was looking at a chart. He lifted his face. âVery well. Iâll help him to reach his destiny.â
.....
After that, he used water magic to make strong waves to push that one captain to Tybu. He also sent one shark behind him.
He made sure the current would take the captain to the shore and the shark would bite him off.
This way, the captain would die from blood loss and wouldnât be able to tell people the details of what happened in the ocean.
Afterward, Ovior warned Sebastian, âMake sure Veronica doesnât know about this.â
âYes, Second Master.â Sebastian bowed.
He was ready to leave when one of the assassins rushed inside the Captainâs room.
âSecond Master, something has happened. After the crews finished eating, they killed their captains and threw them out in the ocean,â he reported.
âWhat?â Ovior turned around. âAnd none of you stopped them?â
The assassin replied, âWe were ordered not to lay a hand on them. We couldnât stop them unless we knocked them out first.â
Ovior frowned. âSigh! You all love to give me a headache. Go, call Veronica. Iâll tell her what happened.â
âYes, Second Master.â The assassin followed his order.
Soon, Veronica came to Ovior. âOvior, whatâs wrong? Arenât we going back?â
âYes, but there is a situation.â After that, Ovior told her everything.
âSuch a thing happened?â Veronica gasped. âWhy did the crews do that?â
Ovior explained it to her, âApparently, these crews are slaves and the captains are... were the thugs who were loyal to Duke De la Pole. These thugs tortured the slaves by every possible means.
âThe crews couldnât do anything because they didnât want to die a painful death. Thatâs why after they were free from their master, they wanted to get rid of the captains.â
He added, âWell, I canât blame them for being resentful. The thugs needed to pay for their crime.â
âWhat about the crews? Are they injured?â Veronica asked in concern. She no longer thought about the captains.
Ovior didnât think it would be that easy to appease her. âI donât know. Go check yourself. Just donât use your power.â
âAll right!â After Veronica left, Sebastian followed her.
Veronica went to the hall room and found the crews there. She observed the crews.
Everyone was somewhat injured but none of their injuries were serious.
The floor was a bloody mess. Since the crews werenât injured much, she could tell to whom this blood belonged.
The dead captains.
One of them came to apologize to her, âMissus, we deeply apologize for ruining your ship. I know you saved us with goodwill but we cannot stay with those sons of bitches. They ruined us in many ways.â
Then, the crew bowed and apologized again.
Others also bowed and apologized to her.
Veronica told them, âItâs all right. Please sit down. Iâm not here to interrogate you. I need to know if you have any family in Tybu. We will send you to your families one by one.â
The crews looked around but no one answered.
âDoes that mean no one lived in Tybu?â Veronica inquired.
The crews shook their heads.
âI have a family in Synetia. I went to Tybu to find work. Who knew things would turn out this way.â
âIâm from Binavill. I left my child with my elder sister.â
âIâm from Zenon. I lived there with my family.â
âIâm from Riverhill.â
One by one, the crew told Veronica where they were from.
Veronica told them, âThen, I will talk to my friend. The ship belongs to him. He will be able to send you all back. Please wait for further instruction.â
âThank you, lady!â
âThank you, missus!â
âYou are a lifesaver, lady.â
âI canât believe I will finally be able to see my family again! Thank you, miss!â
They all thanked her while wiping their tears.
Veronica smiled at them. Later, she told Ovior about the situation.
âThis is nothing. I can send them back before they know it,â Ovior said.
Veronica was delighted to hear that. âI will leave it to you then.â
Ovior went to meet the crews in her absence.
He told them, âThe lady wished for me to let you go to your family and I approved her wish. You have to wait for a while since I cannot send everyone to their families at the same time.
âIt will take some time but I promise Iâll send you back to where you are from. But you have to give me your word that you wonât come back to Tybu.
âEveryone in Tybu believes that you all are dead. If you go there and people recognize you, the lady who requested me to send you to your family will be in danger.
âDo you want to harm the person who saved your life? She freed you from slavery. She promised to send you to your family. If you try to hurt her for your selfishness, do you think karma will let you or your family go?â
His cold eyes gazed at the crews. They shivered in fear.
âNo, no, we donât want them.â
âItâs best for us that people know we are dead. At least, Duke De la Pole wonât send people to look for us. We can go back to our families.â
The crews agreed.
âBut what about a job?â a crew voiced his opinion. âI need a job to provide for my family. Who knows if they are alive until now.â
He wept when he thought about his poor family.
âI can give you a job. A proper job with a place to live and eat. You can also bring your family there,â Ovior suggested.
The crews looked at him in surprise. But soon, they looked at him warily. They didnât believe him.
If it was Veronica, they would believe her. She looked so kind and gentle. She was concerned about them
However, this guy with long hair was different.
The moment he came inside, he threatened them.
How could they believe him?
Ovior became irritated by their attitude.
âJust whose ship they think they are in?!â he thought in anger.
But he decided not to shove the anger on them.
He calmed down and said, âMy ship will send you to your kingdoms. You will have one month to prepare yourself. The ship will wait for you in the port.
âIt will leave the port on time whether you are there or not. The place you will go is a vast land with fertile soil. You have to produce rice and wheat and grow vegetables and fruit.
âForty percent of the food you produce will be for you and your family and the rest will be taken by me. At the same time, you will be paid for your hard work.
âIf you want to take the job, you are welcome. If you donât want to take the job, you have to forget what I told you and never return.
âIf you stand in my way or if your action harms the lady who requested me to offer you a better life, I will not let you be. Mark my words.â
After he left, the crews talked among themselves.
âIs that a good idea?â
.....
âSounds like a trap to me.â
âIt seems too good to be true. After what happened with Duke De la Pole, I donât want to face another betrayal.â
âBut they saved us...â
âSo what they saved us? What if they saved us to turn me and my family into slaves for the rest of our lives? Iâve suffered enough. My old parents canât take this struggle.â
While they debated, Ovior sat on the chair and leaned against the soft pillow.
âThank you for doing so much for me. I owe you one,â Veronica said.
Ovior shut his eyes and responded, âDonât bother. I wonât help them without anything in return. I have my plans too.â
âPlan?â Veronica became curious. She probed further, âWhat plan?â
Ovior told her, âI have an island. I want to send the crews there to work and bring profit for me.â
Veronica honestly said, âI think it is a good idea. At least they will have a job. They can live well.â
âI knew you would say that. We could easily use these slaves to tear off Duke De la Poleâs mask. But they soon will be known as mysteriously dead in the sea storm. So, whatâs your next move?â
