Chapter 437
Tangled By Fate
â...You love her, donât you? Is it because her personality is similar to Lady Jannette?â
There was an odd silence in the room. Catherine could sense the cold wind blowing that gave her chills. She looked around but didnât find all the windows open, enough to drop the temperature of the room.
âYou developed your feelings for her so quickly that you couldnât stop them when you realized it. So, now you admire her more. You are forcing yourself to respect her as your friendâs wife.â
âYou said enough,â Ironin interrupted her. âFocus on your work.â
Catherine was stunned by his attitude.
âDid you think I would just let it go like that? How can you be so nonchalant about this? What if Ver finds out? Do you know what disaster it will bring?â
She didnât want to raise her voice. However, she couldnât help it.
.....
âLower your voice,â Ironin demanded in a cold voice. âIt was you who picked up the topic. If you donât say anything, no one will learn anything.â
Catherine looked at him in disbelief. âItâs unbelievable that you are not opposing my claim. Are you just agreeing with the fact that I discovered?â
Ironin slightly creased his eyebrows. âI will neither deny nor agree with you. You have the right to think whatever you want. And I have the right to admire whoever I want.
âJust because I admire someone doesnât mean I fall in love with them. But if I try to oppose it, you will try to push your theory on me. You are like those women who always seek trouble.â
Catherine paused. âItâs true if he disagrees, I will think that heâs lying. Should I just believe that he doesnât have any romantic feelings toward Veronica?â
She pondered hard but was unable to come up with an answer.
âBut that cannot be right. I have seen the portrait with my very own eyes. It was more vivid and eye-catching than any portrait that was painted by him. Although I didnât see his wife portrayed that was done by him, Iâm pretty sure he cares for Ver more than he says.â
Although she thought that way, for a man like him to cheat on his wife was unbelievable.
Even so, she couldnât get rid of the idea.
Ironin was always quiet and never shared his thoughts with anyone. Moreover, he was sincere.
If he liked someone, he would take it seriously and sincerely. He would definitely want to marry the girl. Just like he married Lady Jannette.
It was the very reason that it was unbelievable that he would fall for Veronica.
If anyone heard her thoughts, they would brush her thoughts due to her absurd idea.
At first, Catherine also thought the same. She thought that her life lacked drama since she broke up with Vincent.
Later, the idea kept bugging her until she lost her sleep. She kept going to Ironinâs office and stared at the portrait.
The more she looked at it, the more she was convinced that he liked her.
After coming back, she dealt with Vincent. She was exhausted.
Later, she couldnât spend time with Veronica. She had nothing else to do. Thatâs when this absurd thought kept coming to her and bothered her.
Today, she couldnât hold back anymore. She had to tell Ironin about her suspicions.
She was expecting some reaction but he was as cold and distant as ever.
When he shared his logic, she found it believable.
She couldnât retort. Thus, she became silent.
Although her lips were sealed, her mind wasnât.
She tried to recall how Ironin behaved around Veronica.
Not long after, Ovior came back after feeding his pet animals. The yellow chick was sleeping on his head and the little tortoise was in his hands.
After staring at him for a couple of seconds, Catherine looked away.
âI can never get used to this site,â she thought.
âCatherine, how are you doing?â Ovior asked.
Catherine replied, âIâm doing better. Thanks for having me back. I hope I didnât give you all too much trouble because of my personal reasons.â
Ovior sat on his chair and then placed the tortoise on the table. After that, he took a document.
âNo, you didnât,â he replied. âNow you know why I donât get involved in any relationship.â
Catherineâs back stiffened. Soon, she nodded. âYou are right. A relationship is bothersome. Itâs good to stay single and enjoy my youth.â
âYou have learned well, havenât you?â Ovior remarked.
Soon, he changed into a demonic boss and demanded, âFinish your work by tonight.â
âYes!â Catherine looked at her table and gulped.
âSo much to finish within a day!â She freaked out.
âââ
Veronica was rolling on the bed. Her mind was unsettled.
Arthur was reading a book, sitting beside her. Noticing her movements, he closed his book and turned toward her.
âWhatâs wrong?â he inquired. âWhat are you thinking that you cannot keep your calmness?â
âWhat else?â she replied, âIâm thinking about the Queen and her desire to harm you.â
âYou are with me and thinking of another person? Now youâre making me jealous,â Arthur commented.
He reached out and grabbed her ankle before dragging her close to him. He circled his arms around her and then picked on her cheek.
âThe Queen isnât a person worthy of your thoughts,â he remarked. âBut since you still thought about her, Iâm curious what youâre thinking.â
Veronica shared her thoughts, âI was thinking that she was quite foolish. She knows the very reason why her son died. She cannot even differentiate right from wrong.
âHow can she be a queen of a kingdom? Furthermore, she wants to go against you, the most powerful person in the kingdom.â
She paused and then looked at him.
âYou are a magician, Arthur. If you want you can just snap your finger and make her disappear. Itâs not like you are a reasonable person or you care what other people have to say about you. So then, why are you going through so much drama? This isnât like you.â
At her evaluation of his character, Arthur smirked.
âMy princess is so wise that I canât help but be amazed,â He commented. âI understand your thoughts. Indeed, Iâm capable of that kind of trick. Itâs nothing compared to what I have to do inside the ring to have a match with Ovior.
âHowever, when it comes to the Royal Family I have to be careful. You already know about our peace treaty. We cannot unnecessarily attack them and so canât they.
âBut then I could attack the Crown Prince because it was right. We were having a match. Killing people there was a normal occurrence. No one could blame me for what I did.
âThe Crown Princeâs crime was so big that even the king couldnât point his fingers at me. Not even the aristocrats could say anything about it. Some of them even felt relieved.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
âAs for the Queen, she could only boil in anger. I want this day to come. And Iâve been preparing for this day for a long time. I have enough proof to take her down. But it wonât be fun.
âI want her to dance like a rat. I will let her think that she won but actually she won nothing. It will be quite a sight to see her reaction when she finds out everything.â
While talking, he held her hands and rubbed them to keep them warm.
After he was done explaining, he asked her, âAre you scared of your husband now? Iâm evil, arenât I?â
âAs long as you stay with me and let me stand beside you, I think youâre the sweetest evil,â Veronica replied.
Arthur chuckled. âDo you think Iâm sweet?â
âYes, I do.â
âWhat part do you think is sweet about me?â
âThe fact that you are good to me. It makes everything about you the best.â
âIs that so? What about my little ancestor? When you suck it, do you think it is sweet too?â
Veronica suddenly realized that their conversation was going off the line.
Her heart skipped a bit when she realized what he meant. Her face flushed instantly in embarrassment.
She pushed his chest with full force.
âWhat are you talking about? Why would I think something like that is sweet?â she retorted with a red face.
Arthur said in a hoarse voice, âWhy not? You just said everything about me is sweet. Arenât I good to you? Doesnât that mean everything about me is sweet?â
Veronica felt her ears burning.
âI meant your personality, not your body.â
She didnât want him to misunderstand her and then tease her for that in the future.
Arthur stated, âHow can you say it like that? I wonât take ânoâ for an answer. Since you mean âeverythingâ, then it IS everything.â
.....
He whispered in her ear, âPrincess, it has been a while since you sucked me like it is the most delicious thing in the world. Why donât you test it today and tell me if it is sweet or not?â
