Chapter 424
Tangled By Fate
âThe promise that after marriage we will travel the world togetherâ Arthur mentioned. âAre you upset that I couldnât keep it?â
Veronica finally remembered that he had promised something like that before they got married.
Furthermore, it was because of that promise she agreed to marry him as quickly as possible.
âIf you didnât remind me, I wouldnât have remembered,â Veronica stated.
âAre you upset about it?â Arthur carefully asked. âAfter our wedding, we hardly had time to go anywhere aside from visiting Utahill. Even that was for a mission, not an actual vacation.â
Leaning against his chest, Veronica looked at the magical ceiling.
She said, âWhat can we do? Both of us have responsibilities toward the tower. Itâs not like we can abandon it. The more we try to finish our more, the more pile up. Itâs almost like someone wants to tell me that I need an assistant.â
.....
âDo you want an assistant?â Arthur inquired.
Veronica shook her head. âI would if only whatever the assistant did would be saved in my memory. Unfortunately, thatâs not possible. But I think itâs fine this way.â
âAre you okay with this?â
âWell, we just got married and itâs been a year. We have our whole life waiting for us. Who knows, maybe tomorrow you will take down the Queen and then we will be able to travel to any neighboring country.â
Arthur chuckled. âIâm glad you are so optimistic. But I worry that I will disappoint you.â
Veronica rubbed her face. âHmm, if thatâs what you think, I have a solution.â
âWhat solution?â Arthur was interested in her plan.
Veronica narrated shortly, âWell, I deal with Vincent and you deal with the Queen. Whoever finishes their business first will have the opportunity to choose where to visit next weekend.â
âIt might take a month for you to deal with Vincent.â
âSo what? Whoever finishes first will decide what to do the next weekend. The weekend could be next monthâs first weekend. Who knows?â
Arthur felt better seeing her so carefree.
As long as she wasnât unhappy marrying him, he had no regrets.
âDo you regret marrying me?â Veronica suddenly questioned him.
Arthur was taken aback by her question. His expression immediately became solemn.
âWhat do you mean? Why would I regret it?â
âYou were... a Casanova. You had a carefree life until you met me. Now that we got married, you are stuck with responsibility. You donât have enough time to breathe.â
Truthfully, Veronica kept telling others that both needed to sacrifice to have a happy marriage.
However, she kept feeling guilty inside.
If it wasnât for her, Arthur would be able to enjoy his life however he wished. He would be with any woman without a string attached.
But after meeting a na?ve, weak girl like her, he had to keep worrying about their surroundings.
He was always tense and worried something would happen to her.
He wasnât as relaxed as before.
Even at war, he was so carefree. He always had time to flirt with her even if they were in the enemy camp.
He was reckless and she was curious. Thatâs why they became a good pair and got quickly attracted to each other.
Now, she wondered if that kind of day would ever come back.
Arthur was a protective husband. He would never be reckless like before and have adventures like that with her.
She didnât mention them to him, worrying that he would be depressed. He already had enough on his plate.
Nevertheless, she missed the old him and the old days before they got married.
And, she feared that he would regret marrying her.
Arthurâs arms around her tightened all of a sudden. He could see a pained expression planted on her face.
âWhy do you think I will regret our marriage just because my lifestyle changed? What are you thinking right now?â
âI already told you what Iâm thinking.â Veronica stared at him with her limpid eyes. âAre you really not regretting it?â
The back of Arthurâs finger brushed over her face. âNica, I donât know what you are thinking but I can swear that ever since I met you my life changed for good.â
âReally?â
Arthur nodded. âYes, Iâm sorry that I didnât mention it before but I was just running away from my duties. I was acting like a reckless teenager. I pushed all my duties to Ovior and lived a carefree life. I shouldnât have done that.
âAfter I met you, I realized you were the same as me. You were reckless and carefree. Moreover, you knew nothing about the world. It was all new to me and so, I got easily attracted to you.
âWhen you almost sacrificed your life for me, I realized how precious you were to me. At that time, I knew that I couldnât deal with that kind of irresponsible life anymore.
âI understood that I couldnât live a life where you werenât there. I just simply couldnât lose you. Thatâs why I confessed to you. Trust me, when I saw your motionless body lying on the bed, I was so scared that I couldnât think of anything.
âThatâs when I started to plan everything. I knew about my situation very well. I knew what I had to discard and what I have to keep in my life just to be with you.
âI was mentally prepared to be with you. I knew the moment I would take you to the Magic Tower we would both be busy with piles of work. I knew what we were going to face. I also had the Queen in the plan too.
âIâm sorry I had to hide it from you. I feared that if I didnât hide it from you and lure you with the traveling, you might not want to be with me.â
âYou are right, I wouldnât be with you if it werenât for the promise,â Veronica replied without batting an eye.
â...â
Arthur was speechless.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
He did think she cared more about traveling than him, he didnât imagine her confessing outright.
He had no idea what kind of face he should make.
