Chapter 416
Tangled By Fate
Catherineâs world became quiet. She couldnât hear the coupleâs laughter and rustling sounds of the bed sheets.
The man in the bed was Vincent and the girl in his arms was none other than Betty.
Her whole body shook and her legs went limp. As she began to fall down, she pressed the door to balance herself.
The door was already slightly open. Since she pushed the door before falling, the door instantly opened and hit the wall on the side.
Thud!
The sound was loud enough to startle the couple in the bed. They ceased their action and jumped out in surprise.
Vincentâs face turned pale when he saw the reason the door was opened.
.....
âCatherine!â he pushed Betty away from him and hurriedly wore his clothes. Then, he dashed toward his fiancée.
Catherine was sitting on the floor in a daze. Her brain was still processing what she had seen with her very own eyes.
Vincent noticed her face was as white as a sheet. Her body temperature was decreasing tremendously. She didnât look okay.
From behind, Betty slowly wrapped the bed sheet around her body. The corners of her lips twitched ever so lightly. Looking at Catherineâs reaction, her heart delighted in joy.
âOh, Catherine. The beautiful friend of Veronica. So what you are pretty and sweet? Men like experienced women. Men are into seductive girls. Men love it when they are wrapped around womenâs fingers. You wanted to separate Arthur from me. You made my child fatherless. Now I separate you from your fiancé. Donât you think itâs lovely revenge?â
Vincent crouched beside the dazed Catherine and asked desperately, âCatherine, are you okay? This is all a misunderstanding. Whatever you saw just now, forget them. Nothing is real.â
Catherine slowly turned her head toward him. â...Are you saying your love for me is... fake?â she weakly asked.
Vincentâs pupils shook. âNo, no, of course not. My love for you is real!â he strongly denied her claim.
Catherineâs lips quivered, â...If thatâs true then why did you sleep with another woman? Why Vincent?â
While she talked, treats streamed down her face. She didnât try to hide them nor did she wipe them away.
She stared at him. Her eyes were filled with questions, confusion and accusations.
She couldnât understand the man who loved her and proposed to her, how could he do this to her?
She was indeed interested. However, it wasnât that she was forcefully marrying him.
The one who asked her to be his lover was him. The one who proposed to her was him.
Everything started with him.
Even though he
She recalled that back then she didnât want to get intimate with him before marriage.
âIs this why he slept with her? He had physical hunger and couldnât control his urge?â she wondered.
â...It was just a moment of passion. It was a mistake. You love me, right? Why donât you forget it? Itâs not like I didnât want to do it with you but you always rejected me. Itâs not my fault?â
âSo, itâs now my fault?! Why couldnât you wait another three weeks? We would be married by then! You waited so many months but canât wait three weeks?!â
The more Catherine spoke, the louder her voice became. Her voice was hoarse. She felt a lump in her throat. She could barely speak with the current condition of her voice.
âCatherine...â Vincent reached out to grab her shoulder.
Smack!
Catherine slapped away his hand.
He had touched Betty with those hands of his. Just thinking about it made her feel disgusted.
Vincentâs expression changed. The way things were going, he didnât want to foresee the future outcome.
He quickly reached out and grabbed her arm. âCatherine, you are too emotional right now. Calm down first.â
âYou are supposed to marry me in three weeks and here you are sleeping with someone else. You were doing a holy ritual thatâs supposed to happen between a married couple. Now, you want me to stay calm?! Like hell I will!â
Catherine shouted at him and yanked her arm away from him. With her trembling leg, she stood up.
She shuddered as a chilly wind entered the room through the window. She hugged herself.
âCatherine, donât be childish...â Vincent hurriedly stood up. He was thinking, âI canât let her walk away from her. I need to make her stay.â
âShut up!â Catherine yelled at him. Her red moistened eyes stared at him.
Everything was revealed to her. She understood what kind of man she was engaged to. She had enough of his acting.
At that time, several footsteps came running.
âWhatâs happening inside? Who is shouting?!â
It was the voice of Vincentâs mother.
Vincentâs parents came inside the room. Looking at the mess in the bed, cuddled Betty, their naked son and crying angry soon-to-be daughter-in-law, their heads spun.
Vincentâs mother suddenly panicked. âWhat... on earth is going on?!â
Catherine wiped her tears and murmured, âAsk your precious son.â
Afterward, she brushed past them. She marched out of the room.
Vincentâs heart dropped as he saw her leaving. âCatherine, wait!â
He was about to catch her when his mother caught his wrist.
âDear, what is happening? Why is Betty here in your room in this appearance? Why are you wearing nothing?â
âCanât you understand whatâs happening?â Vincentâs father coldly said. âYour precious son was cheating on his fiancée.â
His wife looked at her son, âHuh? Dear child, why did you do something like that? Didnât you say you liked Catherine? Then, why are you with Betty?â
Vincent closed his eyes. He covered his eyes with one hand and stayed silent.
âWhy arenât you answering me? Your wedding is in three weeks!!â his mother choked as she spoke.
âThe fun is over. I donât think I should stay in this room any longer.â Betty got up from the bed and tried to get out of the room as quietly as possible.
However, she couldnât escape the eagle gaze of Vincentâs mother.
âStop right there. Where do you think you are going? Let you stay here thinking you were a good woman but I was wrong. You ruined my sonâs happiness. Destroyed his marriage. Is this how you repay kindness? How treacherous!â
Betty didnât flinch. She made a pitiful face.
âMadam, itâs nothing like this. I didnât force him and did anything to harm me. Vincent is such a good man. He is so kind to me. I couldnât help but fall in love with her.â
After her confession, her eyes brimmed with tears.
âMadam, I wanted to leave after confessing to him but things changed between us. We had mutual bonding before he got engaged to Catherine.â
âYou came here intentionally and seduced my son. Now you are trying to push the blame on my son? Looks like Iâve been raising a snake by feeding milk. How dare you still show your face to us? Get lost!â
Vincentâs mother yelled at her. She was furious. Her breathing increased rapidly.
Vincent told his mother with concern, âMother, donât be so agitated. You will fall sick!â
âWhy are you still standing here?â his father reprimanded him. âGo and look for Catherine. Iâm sure she didnât go far. Tell her to calm down and then apologize to her. you owe it to her. Poor child must have been shocked. I canât believe I have such a foolish son!â
âY-yes...â Vincent hurriedly got out and chased after Catherine.
âHuh... did you think I came this far for you to apologize to that bitch? Did you think I slept with you to let her get married to you? Never!â Bettyâs eyes flashed with viciousness.
âMadam, I understand you are upset with me. You have a good reason to do so.â She whimpered like a wounded animal. âBut... I havenât forced anything on Vincent. I tried to move on. However, itâs already too late to return.ân/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
After a pause, she added, âIâm expecting...â
Vincentâs mother frowned. âExpecting? Expecting what?â
â...A child, madam.â
âWhat did you say?!â The eyes of Vincentâs mother grew bigger. She couldnât believe her ears.
Betty stated, âItâs a month old... I swear that this child belongs to Vincent. Iâve given my innocence to your son and am only loyal to him. There is no way this child of mine can belong to anyone.
âPlease have mercy. Not for me but for the innocent child who did nothing wrong. It was created with the love of its parents. Itâs your grandchild. It could be your grandson.â
After begging them, she pitifully lowered her head. Her hands hugged her stomach as if she was protecting a precious life inside her.
Vincentâs parents were thunderstruck. They couldnât say a word.
They never imagined that one day they would have to see this scene.
In the end, Vincentâs father sighed. âIf you are pregnant, stay here. We will call our family doctor.â
âYou cannot do this!â His wife opposed it. âWho knows if the child in her stomach is from wedlock? We canât be sure if she planned to target our son from the very beginning after being pregnant with a bastard.â
