Chapter 407
Tangled By Fate
âYou guys donât know what I just saw. Do you want to know what just happened?â
Darius seemed excited when he came to them.
Veronica, Arthur and Zinnia turned to face him.
âWhat happened?â Arthur inquired.
Darius told them, âYou know the pregnant bitch who claimed the child was yours came today. She was with Vincentâs people.â
âWhat?!â Veronica stood up. âWhere is she?â
âShe is talking to a woman. She is friendly with them,â Darius narrated what he had seen.
.....
âShow me the way,â Veronica demanded.
While Darius took Veronica to Betty, Arthur instructed Zinnia, âGo with her.â
âAs you wish.â Zinnia took a glass of champagne with her before going after Veronica.
Veronica went to the dining hall where Felix was taking care of Vincentâs relatives who were having a meal.
âThere she is. Right beside the old hag,â Darius muttered.
âThe old hag you mentioned is none other than Vincentâs mother,â Veronica responded in a low voice.
âI didnât know who she was. She looks like an old hag, so I called her old hag. If you didnât think of her as an old hag, why did you think I was talking about Vincentâs mother, not the other women besides the pregnant bitch?â
What Darius said was so accurate that it took away Veronicaâs remaining words.
Clearing her throat, she stepped forward.
Giving her most professional smile, she said, âMiss Betty, such a pleasant surprise. What brings you here?â
Betty looked at her. She was startled by Veronicaâs sudden arrival.
Vincentâs mother glared at Veronica. âShe is one of us. What? Now you are going to attack us when we did nothing wrong?â
âShe must be upset because I told her relatives off at that time.â Veronica kept her lips stretched. âItâs nothing like that. We knew each other and werenât in touch for a while. Iâm surprised to see her here.â
She looked at Betty and asked with a smile, âI was expecting a letter from you, Betty. Howâs your health?â
She purposely looked down at Bettyâs stomach.
Bettyâs face paled. She subconsciously hid her stomach.
Vincentâs mother suspiciously glanced at Betty and then Veronica. âThey do seem to know each other. I guess I was being rude. I canât believe I keep losing face to Catherineâs friend. What will happen if she badmouths me to Catherine?â
Thinking about all that, Vincentâs mother softly said, âYou two must have many things to catch up on. You can talk more after lunch. We will wait until you are done.â
Veronica was all smiles. âThank you. Please enjoy the lunch.â
After lunch, Betty washed her hand and went to the hall. She stared at Catherine and Vincentâs happy faces.
âDonât tell me you are jealous of them,â Veronica stood behind her as she spoke.
Without looking back, Betty smirked at her words. âDo you think only you have the right to be happy and I donât?â
âNot at all. Everyone deserves to be happy,â Veronica stated, âbut not by hurting others. If you think you can be happy by forcing your way on others, then itâs wrong.â
Betty turned around and faced her. Her eyes were burning. âWhy canât I have what other people have? I know Arthur more than you ever know.â
âIs that so? Then after so long, why did he not choose you? Iâm sure you two had plenty of time to get along.â Veronica tilted her head. âIsnât it because he has no interest in you whatsoever?â
It was like rubbing salt on the wound. Betty opened her mouth to shout when someone stood behind Veronica.
âDonât you dare to create a scene here,â Arthur coldly warned her. â{I first let you go because you are someone close to Trevor. But I wonât let it go twice. Since you know me so well, you must know what I do when I get mad.â
Bettyâs face turned pale. She knew he wasnât giving her an empty threat. He meant every word he said.
Veronica told her, âYou need to leave, Betty. No matter who you sleep and get pregnant with, itâs none of our business.â
Betty rebuked in a low voice, â...I slept with Arthur and thatâs the absolute truth.â
Veronica said, âYou can keep lying but my friends already saw you with another man.â
âIâm not lying. I swear upon my child it was Arthur,â Betty hissed.
âIs she that desperate to swear upon her unborn child?â Veronica wondered.
In the end, she said, âThen give birth to the child and prove that itâs Arthurâs child.â
â!!!â Arthur was stunned. He looked at his wife.
She added, âIf the child looks like Arthur, we will let you live in the tower.â
âNica!â Arthur grabbed her arm and pulled her away from Betty.
Betty was smiling as she saw Arthur dragging her away. âYou promised.â
Arthur brought Veronica to the corner and asked, âWhy did you say that?â His golden orbs were flicking.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Veronica couldnât understand his anger. âWhatâs wrong with it? The child wonât be yours anyway. There is no way it will look like you.â
Arthur shook his head as he couldnât make her understand. âBut she can use magic to change the childâs appearance.â
âSo what?â Veronica shrugged. âYou are the Master of the Magic Tower. Can anything get past you?â
âThere are magic spells that cannot be detected.â
âIf the child looks like you, you know she used magic. It doesnât matter whether it can be detected or not.â
âBut if she will go around and tell everyone about it. No one trusts me more than you. Everyone will blame you saying you are the worst Mistress of the Magic Tower who wonât let an infant stay with its father.â
Arthur was desperate to make her understand.
âIf being a good person is a weakness, I can be the bad guy. No one can take advantage of that.â
Veronica smiled at him brilliantly.
Arthur stared at her lovely smile. This was the smile where he lost himself again and again.
âYou know I can tolerate anyone badmouthing me, but not you. I cannot stand it if others say hurtful things about you.â
