Chapter 397
Tangled By Fate
Just thinking about Veronicaâs pain made his fists clenched in anger.
âI will never get hurt. As long as she is with me, I wonât let anyone lay a finger on her and make her cry. Iâll get rid of these filthy traffickers once and for all.â
The Queen mentioned, âMaster of the magic Tower seems too worried about my subjects. Iâm grateful to have you.â
âWhat is she up to?â Arthur looked at her without a word.
She smiled at Arthur and continued, âI hope itâs nothing personal. You look pretty vexed to me.â
âThis sly fox,â Arthur cursed her inwardly. âI tend to take some things personally; especially when itâs my mission to protect people.â
âI never saw you taking things personally.â The Queenâs lips stretched further. âIt must be something related to you. Personally.â
.....
âWhere do you want to go with that, old hag?â Arthur smirked. âUnlike someone else, I take things in my heart.â
As the Queenâs smile disappeared, the noblemen shifted awkwardly. Unease crept their minds.
The Queen mentioned, âSomehow, I find it suspicious that the Master of the Magic Tower, who is so ruthless that he left a pile of dead people in the tower, would take a bunch of citizens seriously. Maybe some close to you got abducted by the traffickers.â
Keeping a nonchalant expression, Arthur asked, âWhat do you mean by that? Who can be so precious to me other than the citizens of this kingdom?â
The Queen smiled softly. âHow am I supposed to know? Iâm just guessing. Oh well, you got married, didnât you? How is your wife?â
Arthur narrowed his eyes. âWhy is this witch bringing my wife into this? Did she think she could find my weakness like that?â
He responded composedly, âShe is doing fine. But, is this important right now? I thought it was an important meeting, not some personal matter.â
He tried to change the subject before mentioning the importance of the âmeetingâ.
The Queen ignored his question and kept talking about Veronica, âItâs splendid that she is doing great despite you being ruthless to your enemy. Does she not fear you?â
âFear me?â Arthur chuckled. âItâs quite the opposite. Itâs me who fears her. She is such a ferocious woman.â
âIs that so? I heard she was gone for a while. Did she come back?â
âShe wanted a little adventure and then came back where she belongs.â
âI see. You must be leading a happy married life.â
âI am.â
âGood for you.â
âSince there are no plans on how to take care of the traffickers today, I will leave. Iâll go according to my plan. If I find out who is behind this, I wonât spare them. Have a nice day, everyone.â
Saying his piece, Arthur left the meeting room.
âThis witch!â he cursed the queen of Tybu. âThe meeting was just a farce. She wanted to find out my weakness. She has wizards under her wings, hasnât she? She thought Iâd let her have spies in her turf and let her do as she pleases. So stupid of her to think that.â
At the time he reached the tower, Veronica was looking at Catherine who was standing in front of the mirror wearing nothing but undergarments.
The gown designer came with his team today to take her size in order to make her engagement dress.
âThe dress Miss Catherine chose is the most splendid dress Iâve ever made,â the designer said from the other side of the room. âI canât wait for her to wear it on the blessed occasion.â
âI think so too. The dress is gorgeous,â Veronica had to admit.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
Catherine chose a baby blue colored ball gown. It would match with her blue pupils and complement her blonde hair.
When the team was done taking Catherineâs measurement, Catherine wore her clothes and Veronica moved the curtain away.
The designer announced, âI shall send the gown within three weeks. I will make it perfect so that everyone stars at the would-be bride in awe.â
Catherine smiled. âYou jest. I think Iâm pretty normal. There is nothing to look at in awe.â
âI wasnât talking about you,â the designer corrected her. âI was talking about the gown.â
Catherine: â...â
At that moment, someone knocked on the door.
âLadies, are you done? Arthur came back and now heâs looking for his precious wife,â Darius announced from the door.
Veronica looked at her best friend. âIâll be going then.â
âAll right.â
Veronica went to her bedroom. The moment she entered, a feastful scenery came to her view.
Arthur just took a bath. He was wiping his hair with a gray-colored towel. A white towel was wrapped around his waist. Droplets of water rolled on his tan skin.
Yesterdayâs event came to her mind in a flash. Her heart pounded hard.
While wiping his hair, Arthur turned around and looked at his wifeâs flushed face.
He smirked. âLike what you see?â
Veronica pouted. âItâs not something new.â
âThen why are you so red?â he pointed out.
Flustered, Veronica raised her head. âWhy should I be red?â
Arthur hid his laughter. âBut you are.â
âMaybe itâs because itâs too hot today.â Veronica fanned her face with her right hand. She hurriedly changed the subject. âYou came back late from the palace. How was the meeting?â
When she mentioned the meeting, Arthurâs face darkened.
âWho told you I went to the palace?â
Veronica answered truthfully, âI asked Ovior when I went to have brunch. Zinnia and others knew as well. It wasnât a secret, was it?â
âIt wasnât.â
Veronica stared at his face. She inquired, âYou donât look well. Whatâs wrong?â
Arthur marched forward and took her in his arms. As his arms wrapped around her tightly, it made her impossible to breathe properly.
âWhat happened in the Palace that he has to hug like this? He doesnât look good either.â Veronica worried.
She hugged him back and stroked his cold back. âWhatâs wrong? Who scolded you? Just tell me the name and Iâll go to the Palace and scold them for you.â
