Chapter 389
Tangled By Fate
â...I must tell her the truth!â
As Veronica marched toward the restaurant, Zinnia grabbed her arm. âHey, hey, calm down, will you? If you bother them, you will lose the bet.â
âA bet is nothing compared to a womanâs heart. Iâd rather lose money than see a woman heartbroken for a worthless man.â Veronica was fuming.
Felix chuckled. âAll right, angry bird. We will see how far Darius can go. If he goes too far, we will stop him, I promise.â
âYou donât have to promise. Iâll take things in my hand.: Veronica punched her other palm.
âItâs almost seven. Anyone want to have dinner?â Felix asked, looking at the ladies.
âIâm famished,â Zinnia replied, âAnd also interested in how things end.â
.....
âLetâs watch a fun show while having dinner. Meal on me,â Felix declared.
âThatâs why I love you, Felix.â Zinnia gave him a flying kiss.
âI canât accept your love, Mam. Iâm not into old ladies,â Felix rejected her right then and there.
In less than a second, a flying shuriken came right at his face. He caught it in between his fingers in a flash.
â...â Veronicaâs eyes were as round as a flying saucer.
âIf I was at his place, Iâd definitely lose my nose today,â she thought.
They went inside the restaurant. It was a spacious place only for noble members.
Fortunately, the gatekeepers knew Zinnia. They allowed them to enter.
âDo you come here often?â Veronica asked her.
Zinnia replied, âNot particularly. Once a year I guess. When Arthur was still a ferocious wizard, we used to come here often. So they know five of us including Ovior.â
âThis is my first time here. I didnât know you guys had such history here while I was working hard in the desert.â
Felix casually commented. There was a hint of jealousy hidden in his voice.
Realizing that he was just making fun, Veronica assured him, âHow about we come here often. If you want to make someone jealous, this is a good opportunity.â
Felix immediately liked the idea.
âAha! Thatâs a pleasant idea. Letâs do this and then brag about it in front of Arthur and Ovior.â
âAre you sure you donât want them to explode?â Zinnia snickered. âThey are working day and night. We should be a bit lenient on them.â
âYou mean Arthur is lenient when he orders you around?â Veronica inquired.
â....â Zinnia pondered for a second and then said, â...All right, letâs enjoy our fullest and then brag in front of them.ân/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
Veronica burst into laughter.
They chose a table in the opposite direction of where Darius sat down with the gorgeous noble lady.
After ordering their meals, they eavesdropped on Darius and the ladyâs conversation.
Darius was saying, âHow can I let such a beautiful lady pay for the meal? I have a principle not to let a woman pay the bill when Iâm with her.â
The lady nervously took a quick glance at the entrance and then said, âNo, please. I did agree to join your meal but I want to pay for my meal. I have my principles.â
â...â Darius dumbly stared at her.
âWow! She is good!â Veronica couldnât help praising her.
Zinnia smirked. âI knew she was a smart girl. She seemed nervous at first but she can handle a man like Darius politely.â
âWell, good for her since Darius isnât a forceful person,â Felix commented.
âYeah, lucky her.â Zinnia couldnât agree more.
Their meals were served. They were starving after walking in the market plaza all day.
âI love their sizzling chicken. Itâs hot and spicy. Their chef is just the best,â Zinnia praised the chef.
âHah... hah...â Veronica sniffed. Wiping her tears, she finished another glass of water.
âDo you need ice water? Your whole face is red.â Felix felt bad for her.
He wasnât wrong. Her cheeks and nose were red. Her teary eyes were the same.
After she wiped her nose, she replied, âIce water would be great.â
Felix ordered the waiter to bring some ice water.
Zinnia expressed her astonishment, âIâm surprised that you canât eat spicy food. From what I know Arthur loves spicy food and so he learned how to cook spicy meals. How do you manage when you eat the meal he cooks?â
âHe uses fewer spices when he cooks for me,â Veronica replied.
Zinnia responded with a pissed-off âLucky you. He never made any compromise for us. He forced us to get used to his extra spicy meals. Now it feels like nothing.â
Veronicaâs cheeks became hot. She bashfully confessed, âFrankly, this is the first time Iâve had such a spicy meal.â
âNo wonder. Arthur treats you so well. If your stomach aches today, we will have to face his wrath,â Zinnia commented.
âWeâll just have to give her digestive medicine. Thatâs all. For now, Iâm worried about Darius,â Felix stated.
At his gesture, the girls turned their heads in Dariusâs direction. They watched him holding the womanâs hand.
âHas he gone crazy? The lady is feeling uncomfortable,â Zinnia commented.
Darius was caressing the ladyâs hand and told her, âIâve never seen such smooth skin in my life. You are making me fall for your hand.â
The lady hesitated. She once again stole a glance at the entrance and then said, âYou should finish your meal.â
Darius smiled at her. âWhatâs the matter? Do you want to hurry and ditch me? Do you really think your partner will arrive?â
â...Thatâs not important,â she replied in distress.
âI think we should interrupt them,â Veronica suggested.
âBut what if we create commotion here. It wonât be good for the image of the Magic Tower,â she thought.
âThe take care of the reputation of the Magic Tower is my utmost responsibility. But I want to help the lady over there too. Should I just call for Darius and cancel the bet? I can give him any amount he wants.â
While she was pondering hard, someone marched inside the restaurant and scanned the whole area. Spotting the target, the customer took a few large steps and reached Darius.
Darius was busy pleasing the beautiful lady. Suddenly he sensed a murderous aura behind him. He immediately turned around.
The new customer was quicker than him. Before Darius could see who was standing behind him, the customer caught his collar, pulled him and then threw him on the ground.
