Chapter 14

Saving Abba

The sun shining on my face made me groan, I was not ready to face the world. I pulled the covers over my head.

Come on Abba.

I got up and walked into the bathroom, staring at my reflection. I looked like shit. This was not me. I was not a weak minded fool who hid away from the world.

I am Abubakar Abdullahi Barde, a member of the renowned Barde Clan. I am beneath them all.

With that cemented in my brain, I had my shower and got ready for the day. I didn't bother with breakfast deciding to get something at work.

Arriving at work 30 minutes later, I made my way to my cubicle. People were staring after me.

Let them stare.

Amaka was waiting with a cup of coffee, she was leaning against the wall of my cubicle, eyes glued to her phone.

"Hey" I said

"Abubakar!!! I was so worried. I came over to your cubicle yesterday but you weren't there and your car was here. Are you okay?" She asked.

"Yeah" I laughed. "Is that mine" I gestured to the cup. She nodded smiling before handing the cup over to me.

"Thanks." I replied.

"I need your help with a file, I'll bring it over in a few." She said. I nodded and walked into my cubicle.

Powering up the computer, I scrolled through my messages, replying to Najma's message before tossing the phone to the aside.

Amaka came a few minutes later and we got to work.

"So how are you holding up?" She asked. I shrugged resting back on the chair.

"I'm not letting anyone get to me. They can say whatever they want. I don't care" I answered.

"That's the spirit! But if you don't mind me asking, who is she?"

"Well, it's complicated. She's not mine but I... it's complicated" I replied. She nodded in understanding.

"When you're ready to talk about her, I'll be here." She assured. I smiled at her grateful she wasn't insisting.

"Well well well, at least now we know why you are really here" a new voice said.

I turned to Abdul who had a smug grin on his face.

"Poor rich Abubakar got cut off for knocking up a girl and now to support the baby he has to work" he mocked, I glared at him.

"Don't you have anything better to do?" Amaka snapped at him. He ignored her walking further into my cubicle.

"I heard you wanted her to get an abortion, that's pathetic Abubakar. You forgot to wrap it up or what?" He sneered.

Ignore him, he is beneath you.

"I bet she isn't the only girl you knocked up and forced to get an abortion."

"Abdul that's enough. You aren't wanted or needed here" she barked.

"Come on Amaka, I'm just stating the obvious. Let's just hope the baby has more sense than him, imagine she gets his hoe tendencies, that'll just be sad. What's her name again? Yas..."

I saw red after that, all I felt was pain erupting in my hands and Abdul on the floor.

"Stop!!!" Amaka kept on shouting before running out. I drove my fist into his face one more time before getting up.

"Stay the fuck out of my business you piece of shit" I snarled, he whimpered. I looked him over.

Pathetic

I grabbed my keys and phone and walked towards the entrance. Most of the workers stood frozen, watching as I walked past them, I knew my hand was stained with the fuckers blood but I didn't give a rat's ass. It felt good no fuck that, it felt great.

I exited the building and headed to my car, getting the bottled water I always kept there and rinsed my hands. I got in, flicking at the already dried specs of blood on my fingers.

Slamming the door shut, I pushed the ignition button and peeled out of the parking lot. I needed a distraction.

Subconsciously I drove to the polo club, I hadn't been there in ages. My kit was still in the trunk of my car. I got it out and headed to the toilet. I changed and walked to the stables.

One of the helps fixed my horse and brought it over to me. I got on and trotted out to the field. It was virtually empty with just a few riders spaced out.

I led the horse into a canter and slowly into a full gallop. The concept of time became foreign to me as I rode faster and faster. By the time I had slowed down, I was dripping. I led the horse back to the stable and jumped down.

I had a quick shower and changed back to my clothes. I scrolled through my messages as I walked through the halls.

"Abubakar?" A voice called out. I turned to see Sheriff jogging towards me.

"Hey" I greeted tightening my grip on my backpack.

"I haven't seen you around. You went MIA on us all" he said. I shrugged remembering the last time I saw him was at the club.

"I've been busy" I replied hoping my attitude would make him leave but that didn't seem to be the case.

"So where are you heading?"

"Dunno." I answered.

"I'm heading to Tony's if you're interested." He suggested.

No you are not.

"Sure"

You are making a terrible mistake.

I ignored the voice and followed Sherrif out of the complex.

"I'll meet you there."

"Okay. I'll make sure your name is on the list." He assured before getting into his car. I got into mine and drove back home.

I parked my car at the gate and got into the compound. It was a few minutes after 4, the main house was quiet. I didn't bother going to greet Hajiya instead I made my way to the chalet.

Tossing my phone on the couch, I headed to the bedroom. After peeling the clothes off me, I had a proper shower and fell into bed, sighing at the comfort.

I raised my head and looked at the clock. I still had two hours before the party started and 4 hours before I would go. Only a novice goes to a party early and I was no fucking novice.

You've worked hard to let it all go!!!

I rolled my eyes at the thought before closing my eyes to catch some shut eye.

I am attending this party and that's it

****************

I parked my car outside Tony's residence, dressed in dark blue Kaftan.

I killed the engine and got out, approaching the house. The gate was swung wide open and I could see some cars parked in, I could hear the music from where I stood.

I walked carefully avoiding bumping into people, stopping in front two hefty men.

"Name" one of them demanded, his face a blank, the shades hiding his eyes.

"Abubakar Abdullahi" I stated. He checked his pad before stepping aside. I walked in and was immediately hit by the smell of Shisha and alcohol.

I made my way deeper into the house, seeing scantily dressed women everywhere, the light was low, I had to squint to see where I was heading. A body bumped into me.

"Sor... Abubakar  you came!!!" I recognized the voice as that of Sherrif, I gave him a look over, he was tipsy.

"Come on bro, let me introduce you to this babe" he slurred dragging me through the crowds, we arrived at a room which was quiet, the light wasn't as low.

I spied Tony manning the bar, several girls surrounding him. He looked up and sent a nod my way, I nodded back in greeting.

"This is Kamilla with a K"  Sherrif introduced gesturing to the girl in a white bodycon.

"Kamilla, this is my bud, my bro, the don himself, Abubakar" he said giving me a hard slap on the back. I shot him a glare before turning to the woman in front of me. A smile finding its way to my lips as I looked her over.

"Have fun you two" he said ambling away probably to find a poor girl to disturb. I sat near her.

"I've heard so much about you. You're the talk of the town." she said flicking her hair over her shoulder exposing her slender neck.

"What can I say? I'm a pretty big deal" I replied smirking.

She moved closer to me, her hand gently caressing my arm.

"A pretty hot big deal and do you know what makes you hotter?" She asked, her lips close to mine.

"Why don't you tell me?" I whispered back, my eyes drifting to her lips.

"The fact that you have a kid. Fuck that's got me all hot and bothered"

Congratulations you just had to spoil the mood

I pulled away from her.

"What? Did I say something wrong?" She asked

Yeah. You had to open your big ass plastic lips and utter rubbish.

"I can make it all better" she giggled moving closer to me,.pressing her body to mine. She almost fell as I stood.

"I don't think so Maria."

"It's Kamilla" she snapped glaring at me.

"Whatever" I left her and walked to the bar.

"What's up man?" Tony greeted.

"Nothing much. Just having a rough day" I answered.

"I have just the remedy" he said pushing a chaser to me. I stared at the drink before looking up at him.

"What's in it?" I inquired.

"A little bit of this, a little bit of that. Nothing that'll send you to the emergency room."

I shrugged before gulping down the contents of the chaser. It tasted sweet, almost too sweet. I coughed a few times trying to get over the taste.

"So? What do you think?" He asked.

"Like a candy store exploded in my mouth" I replied coughing a little.

"Can I have a Roy Roger and can you just keep them coming?" I requested.

"Sure" he replied smiling.

*******************

Sheriff found me an hour later and dragged me from Tony's bar to the outdoor bar. The taste of lime from the body shots still on my tongue. We had left the party and headed to another bar, racing through the streets of Abuja without a car in the world. The rest of the night was a blurred mess after.
