Chapter 12
Saving Abba
Sunday passed by really quick, I decided to stop at Nosta Cafe again before heading to the office to get coffee.
I drove to the office, nodding at the security man as he let me into the building. I walked to my cubicle, dropping my bag and coffee. I met Amaka on the way to her cubicle.
"Good morning" she said smiling, adjusting the strap of her messenger bag.
"Morning" I replied before handing her the coffee.
"Thank you so much. You have no idea how much I needed this." She gushed taking a sip.
"This is really good. Nosta Cafe?" She asked staring at the cup.
"Yeah, it's this little cafe in Wuse 2, Atakampa Street, it's in a complex with some other restaurants." I explained.
"Thanks. I'll be sure to check it out." She said sipping more of the coffee. I walked back to my office taking a seat. I was almost done with most of the files in my office.
"Where are the files from that Barde boy? We need to add the..." Mr Adebayo trailed off as he stood in front of my cubicle. "what are you doing here?!" He asked, eyes bulging.
"Working" I replied innocently turning in my chair to face him, I bit my lip to suppress the smirk. He glared at me, about to open his mouth and probably reprimand me when he caught sight of the files neatly arranged on the table and another arranged in the file cart.
I raised a brow as he paled, looking as if he had seen a ghost. At that point I wished I had a camera to take a picture of his expression.
"Sir, I'll personally remove the files from his off..." Abdul's voice came out from nowhere. At this point, I couldn't help the smirk that found it's way to my lips. Heck, I didn't want to.
"No need for that" Mr. Adebayo said, shock still evident in his voice.
"Pard..." Abdul stopped, his eyes bulging at the sight of me. As amusing as it was, the novelty of their shock wore of real quick.
"Can I go back to work?" I asked, that seemed to snap them out of whatever trance they were in. Mr Adebayo cleared his throat.
"Y...yes, ofcourse. Keep up the good work." He stuttered moving away. Abdul stood there, still in shock that I was actually working.
"Abdul!!! Come along!!" He jumped at the sound of his boss's voice before scrambling after him. I chuckled under my breath before taking another sip of my coffee, wrinkling my nose.
Great. It had gone cold. Thanks to those two.
I flipped through the next file, booting up my computer when my phone rang.
Hajiya Calling...
I answered immediately.
"Hello Hajiya. Is everything alright?" I asked.
"Yes Abba, Yasmin wanted to talk to you. She woke up today and was looking all over for you. I guess the concept of you going to work is still foreign to her" she explained chuckling.
I laughed as she gave the phone to Yasmin.
"Hello Yasmin, how are you?" I asked.
"Fine" she replied yawning.
"Have you had breakfast?"
"Uh-huh. Coco cups" I chuckled at that.
"I'll see you soon" I said.
"Okay. Bye!!!" I hung up and started by work for the day.

This won't be so bad Abba, just calm down. It's just clothes shopping... well thrift cloth shopping. You can do this.
I was currently sat in my car, staring at the boutique in front of me. I had searched on Maps and found a thrift shop far away from where I could bump into any one familiar.
If I get caught here, I would literally shoot myself.
Get on with it. The sooner you finish, the sooner you can get out of here.
I got out of the car and made my way into the building. I raised an eyebrow realising the place wasn't as bad as I thought. The clothes were on racks and it didn't have that wierd smell I thought they would have.
Okay. Not bad but I still want to get out of here
I walked to the front desk and the woman instantly perked up.
"Good evening sir. How can I help you?" She asked.
"I want to buy clothes for a 3 year old. Can you direct me to your kiddies section?"
She nodded and walked around the desk, leading me to some racks at the other side of the shop.
"Here you are. We just got this yesterday. We have some really nice styles here" she gushed.
Yeah...nice
"Thanks" I muttered as she left me to go through them.
Come on Abba, stop acting like a wimp. It's not like the clothes are going to bite you or something.
I sighed and reached for a gown, it was a Princess Sofia gown. Yasmin had a lot of them and she loved wearing them. I placed it in the basket and went through the clothes, picking things at random. Once I was satisfied with what I got, I walked over to the front desk.
"All done?" She asked. I nodded bringing out my Debit Card.
She rang up the clothes and swiped the car through the machine. I typed in my password and soon the transaction was over.
"Thank you for shopping with us" she said sweetly handing me over the 4 leather shopping bags.
I exited the boutique and made my way to the car, trying to find my keys when I bumped into a person.
"Sor..." the words died on my tongue as I looked up.
Fuck
His eyes widened for a fraction of a second before looking down at my hands, at the insignia of the shopping bags, a surprise look in his eyes but it was gone as soon as it appeared.
"Long time no see Abubakar" Hassan said smiling.
"I'll say it wasn't long enough" I retorted wanting to get out immediately.
Why did I have to meet him? Of all people. Hell I would rather Stacey than him
He sighed shaking his head.
"I am not the enemy here Abubakar"
"Yeah... but you have his blood in you. Hassan Mohammed." I snapped brushing past him to my car.
"You know he is looking out for you, you're just too proud to admit it." He pointed out.
"Fuck off Hassan. If he really cared then he'll give me my company back"
He didn't say anything after that and I got into my car, tossing the bags to the passenger seat. I threw the car into reverse and stepped on the accelerator.
*******************
By the time I reached home, I was calm. I would not let Hassan spoil my mood. Getting out of the car, I headed to the main house with the shopping bags in hand.
I could hear the tv and what sounded like Yasmin giggling.
"Hi there pretty lady" I said smiling. She looked up, her eyes lighting up in delight. Atine was seated near her and I approached them.
"Look!!!" She said showing me her henna covered nails. I squatted to get a better look.
"Wow, Yasmin. This is really beautiful." I cooed admiring how the red looked beautiful against her light skin tone.
I gathered the bags and headed over to Hajiya's room.
"Salam Alaykum"
"Wa Alaykum Salaam. Come in" Hajiya said.
I opened the door and walked in. She was seated on her praying mat, the Qur'an opened in front of her.
"Good evening Hajiya." I greeted.
"Good evening Abba, how was work?" She inquired.
"Good Alhamdulillah. I did a little shopping for Yasmin. It's not much." I whispered pushing the shopping bags forward.
"Ah, Maasha Allah. That's so nice of you Abba." She said smiling. "May Allah bless and increase you abundantly."
"Aamiin." I replied. "H...hajiya, you should get Atine or someone else to wash them, they are..." I trailed off not being able to complete the sentence.
Hajiya nodded understanding what I couldn't say. "It's fine Abba. It's the thought that counts"
I left them with her and went to the chalet. I had a quick shower and headed to the masjid for prayers. I stayed till after Isha before I headed back to the house.
Yasmin was asleep already. I had my dinner and went to the chalet, sleep came easy that night.

The next three days followed smoothly, Mr Adebayo seemed to gave gotten over his shock after the second day while his lap dog Abdul still found it suspicious that I was coming to work.
Today I had a meeting with a client and was seated in Blue Cabana waiting for him. Sighing I checked my wrist watch.
3:00pm
The meeting was meant to begin by 2pm and he was an hour late.
"Sir would you like to order?" The waiter came over for the third time adding to my already bad mood.
"No." I snapped watching as he recoiled, I took in a deep breath, reigning my temper. "I'll let you know when I am ready."
He nodded and walked off. I rolled my eyes, resting my head on my arms.
My phone buzzed and I picked it up.
Platinum Insurance calling...
I answered the call.
"Hello"
"Abubakar, this is Mr Adebayo. The client won't be coming for the meeting. He would like to reschedule. Take the rest of day off."
Really?
"Thank you sir" I replied and he hung up. I gestured to the waiter who came over.
"Can I have a plate of fried rice and a drink?"
"Right away sir."
I might as well enjoy lunch on the company's account for making me wait.
I arrived home an hour later, Hajiya was in the foyer, reading a book.
"Good afternoon Hajiya."
"Good afternoon, you're back early." She noted.
"Yes. A client cancelled the meeting so I was given the rest of the day off." I explained.
"That's good. Oh that also reminds me." She said leaning over and pushing a Zara shopping bag over to me.
I frowned pulling it closer me. It was filled with clothing.
"From who?" I asked.
"Hassan. He came over a while ago, such a nice boy. I can't remember the last time I saw him" she commented a twinkle in her eyes.
Red.
All I saw was red.
What the fuck is his problem?!
