Chapter 449
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning
Zach insisted on feeding Madelyn a spoonful of chicken soup, but the moment it entered her stomach, she felt a painful churn. Bent over the edge of the bed, she vomited violently, expelling the contents of her empty stomach, mostly stomach acid that left a bitter taste in her mouth.
Still feeling nauseous, Madelyn attempted to get out of bed, and Zach, anticipating her needs, gently lifted her around the waist and carried her to the bathroom.
Hunched over the toilet, Madelyn continued to retch uncomfortably, the stomach acid causing searing pain in her esophagus. Zach patted her back.
As moments passed, Madelynâs breathing quickened, and she grew limp, unable to stand any longer.
Her eyes welled up with tears, and then, she suddenly lost consciousness.
âMadelyn!â
There was no response from Madelyn. Without hesitation, Zach scooped her up and rushed downstairs.
At SereneCare Hospital, Zach rushed into the emergency room, where Madelyn lay on a hospital bed connected to an IV drip. Her complexion was ashen. A nurse inquired, âAre you the patientâs family?â
Zach replied, âYes.â
The nurse advised, âThe patient seems a bit malnourished. You can offer her whatever sheâd like to eat but ensure she doesnât consume too much at once to prevent stomach discomfort. Weâll need to keep her under observation here in the hospital, we can provide treatment if necessary.â
Zach nodded in acknowledgment, replying, âUnderstood.â
Shortly after the nurse departed, Kai entered the room. He wore a faint smile as he remarked, âItâs quite unusual to see you in this situation. How does it feel to have romantic feelings for your sister?â
Even though Zach had learned that they were related through Hayson, he found it difficult to suppress his emotions.
Kai, intrigued by Madelynâs potential reaction to this revelation, wondered if she would become even more distressed than she already was.
Zachâs gaze turned cold as he directed it at Kai. âIs there something you want?â
His eyes were cold when he looked at Kai.
Kai dismissively walked forward to glance at Madelyn who was still unconscious. He could tell she had not been doing well for the past few days.
He thought, âTsk, sheâs really been through a lot of suffering!â
Kai said, âHave you ever considered having a DNA test with her? What if you two arenât related? We shouldnât jump to conclusions, right?â
Right at this moment, Madelyn murmured uncomfortably, âWaterâ¦â
Addressing Kai, Zach asserted, âItâs not your place to intervene in my matters. Get out!â
Kai raised his hands in a surrendering gesture, still wearing that smile. âWeâve been friends for so long.
It was just a friendly reminder. Forget it. Maybe I overstepped. You two carry on.â
Before departing, he added with a touch of sarcasm, âYou excel in every aspect except one-youâre heartless. Iâve come to your aid countless times, and now youâre asking me to leave. Zach, youâve truly disappointed me.â
When Madelyn eventually woke up, she found Margaret sitting beside her.
With great care, Margaret assisted Madelyn to sit up and placed a pillow behind her back. âBe careful, itâs hot,â Margaret cautioned as she fed Madelyn some pumpkin soup. Inwardly, Margaret couldnât help but think, âShe canât eat anything else. This poor girl seems to be in an even worse situation than me.â
Madelyn finished the bowl of pumpkin soup. It was better than not eating at all. After a few days of suffering, she had lost some weight.
She asked, âWhereâs Zach?â
âOh, you mean Mr. Jardin? He took care of you throughout the night and left this morning,â Margaret replied.
Madelynâs tone turned icy as she issued a command, âFind a locksmith to replace the lock on the main entrance door of the house and change the password.â
Margaret hesitated, expressing her concern, âBut⦠It might not be a good idea if Mr. Jardin finds out!â
Madelyn fixed a piercing gaze on Margaret, asking, âAre you working for him?â
âWhat? No!â Margaret quickly denied it. âIâm just the maid your family hired. Iâll listen to whoever pays me. But⦠If your argument with him ends up affecting me and I lose my job, then I donât want to do it.â
Margaret was being very direct.
