Thanks Giving. An annual national holiday marked by religious observances and a traditional meal including turkey. Or as I like to call it. The only annual celebration that my father makes me attend because his parents always visit and he doesn't want to look bad in front of them. I love Thanks giving sometimes, other times I just wish I were back in Henderson. I only come here on Thanks giving because of my sisters and my mom, no one else.
"Chase the grandparents are almost here." Dawn says knocking at my door. Shit. I grab my tie and Speedy Gonzales my way downstairs. Where Oakley was waiting for me to hand her my tie. So I don't know how to tie a tie. So what? Not many people do, I just happen to fall in that crowd. The 'no tie tying tiers'
"You seriously need to learn how to tie your tie." She says shaking her head in fake disappointment.
"Now why would I do that if I got you?" I say and she laughs sarcastically.
"Doesn't your school uniform require a tie?"
"Yes it does."
"Who ties it for you then?"
"Nobody. It used to be Lucas or Cole but after two years of tying my tie for me they get tired and don't want to do it anymore, so I just walk around school without my tie."
"Nice." She says and continues concentrating on my tie. "Okay we're all done here." We hear two beeps outside and I open the door.
"Chase!! Get over here my pretty boy." My grandma says from next to my grandfather who had already opened her door.
My grandma and grandpa are the most lovey dovey couple you'll ever meet. They met when they were nineteen and they fell in love. They were each other's first everything. First kiss, first boyfriend and girlfriend, first date, like I said first everything. They got married two years after they met and ten months later my father was born. They have been together for fifty years. Still in love.
"Hey grandma." I walk over to her and crouch down to hug her.
"You are too tall. Are you still playing soccer?" She asks smiling while my grandpa grabs her purse for her.
"That I am." I smile. My grandmother has the kindest heart I've ever seen. She's just the best person ever. So is my grandfather, it's like they were made for each other. I love my father, but sometimes I wonder how he came from these two.
"How's school."
"School is great. I got a new roommate. More friends, same grades."
"That's great, that's great." She says and pats my cheek. "Well what are we doing here lets go inside." We walk inside heading straight for the kitchen where almost everybody was. They all exchange their greeting. We all grab our drinks and head straight to the living room where Bailey and Zoe are playing with Isabella. Grandma immediately goes over to Isabella and grabs her, kissing Bails and Zoe's cheeks.
"Zo-Zo." My grandfather says entering the living room with dad right behind him.
"Hey grandpa."
"How's school?"
"Horrible. They have us learning about geometry. It's pure hell." She whines.
"Zoey Brook Hudson. We do not swear in this house." Mom scolds Zoe making most of us chuckle quietly.
"Sorry mom." Zoe chuckles sheepishly and I laugh going upstairs to get the monopoly mom had asked me to get like two hours ago.
...
"You are such a cheater." Zoe says rather loudly and I shake my head smiling.
"Says the girl that is in jail for the fifth time this night and has no money left to pay her bail so she's asking her brother to pay it for her."
Playing Monopoly in my house at Thanks Giving has always been there. Like before I was born they were playing Monopoly at thanks giving every year. Every year we all get tired of playing and head straight to bed, every year Zoey loses all of her money, every year grandpa falls asleep playing. Every year we pay for Zoe's bail since she lost all of her money.
"Good brothers would help their sisters out."
"I did. I bought you that restaurant so that when people would stop there they would give you money for bail."
"But nobody has stopped there."
"Then fight with the dice not me." I tell her and she shakes her head getting up to get some water.
"Let's take a five minute break, Zoe's rampage started early this year." Amelia says and I chuckle. She got here a little after grandma and grandpa got here.
I walk upstairs and go to my room to get my phone. I look through my contacts for Addies number and when I find it I pressThis has become an addiction I really need to stop calling her. But I can't I just need to check that she's okay. The phone rings twice before she answers.
"Hey!" she says very happily and I smile.
"Hey?" I chuckle. "Why so happy?"
"Well I kicked my grandmother out of the house and you called."
"So you're happy I called?" My heart went all warm and fuzzy. I walked over to my bed and sat down.
"I'm always happy you call. If you would've called me when I first got to Henderson I would've sent you to voicemail. But you've become a great friend so... now I'm happy when you call." She says. Okay that one hurt a little. Friend?
"Yeah friends." I say kinda sad, because I gotta admit it, that kind of hurt.
"So why'd you call?"
"Oh... I uh-I just wanted to see how your thanks giving was going. From the excitement in your voice I'm- I'm guessing great." I smile still recovering.
"Better than great. I'll have to tell you all about it when we get back. Here's a little sneak peek. My grandmother was like 'Oh.' And I was like 'Now get the fuck out of my house.' While everybody was like 'Oooooh.'"
"Sounds great princess. I'm glad you're having a good time."
"I really am. How's your Thanks Giving going?"
"Well Charlotte broke a vase accidentally on purpose of course." I chuckles and we continue to speak.
"Chase if you don't get your ass down here I will take your money and pay my bail." Zoey yells from downstairs and I smile.
"I have to go Addie Zoey is about to steel my monopoly money."
"Bye Bugsy."
"Why do you call me that?"
"I think it's a cute nickname considering what you told me about your past and loony tunes."
"Bye."
"Bye." We hang up and I walk downstairs. I get to the living room to see Zoey leaning over the table to get my money. I quickly run over to my money and grab it before she can. "Ho, ho, ho. No you don't sista."
"Talking to your girlfriend were you?" Amy says and I shake my head smiling. My sister don't know what a secret is. I only told one sister, my twin, my other half, my womb mate. And she goes and tells every other sister.
"Yes I was taking with my friend that is a girl."
"Mhm. Anyways, Oakley would you bail me out?" Zoe says making me chuckle.
"No, I have already bailed you out once, that's my limit."
"Do none of you love me enough to bail me out."
"I'M UP!" Grandpa yells from his chair. We all get startled and we continue playing.
"Grandpa, will you pay my bail?" Zoe says batting her eyelashes at him.
"How much you in for honey bunch?"
"The bail has always been fifty dollars."
"Hmm it's kind of tight, ask me again in five to seven business days." I chuckle and he looks my way. "Where'd you go?"
"Grandpa you were asleep how'd you even know I left."
"I'm a father. I know sneaking around when I see it."
"I went up to my room I had to check on something."
"Who's the girl?" He asks tolling the dice when it's his turn.
"Goddamn how does everybody know?"
"You're happy son." He smiles at me and I nod.
It's true. I am happy. I don't think that there has been a time that I've been happy since I found out the truth about mine and Char's birth. But I'm happy, really happy. I have a girl that I love, it's true I won't tell her because if I do then I will lose her, so I will keep that between Cole, Lucas and myself for now. Life is good.
"I am. I really am."
...
It's like half an hour later, and we were all just about ready to sleep, or at least I was. I was getting tired and Oakley said and I quote 'Get your ass to bed. You need to sleep, because tomorrow you need to pack.' So like I said I was just about ready to go to sleep, but being the complete obsessed person that I am I call Addie.
"Hello?"
"Hey princess."
"What's up." She asks and I think I heard somebody say 'Chase' in the background. "Did you win at monopoly?"
"Can somebody win at monopoly?"
"Well yeah you flip the board. Boom game over you win, because you flipped it first liberating everybody of hours and hours of playing monopoly." She's totally crazy and I love it.
"That's logical. I'll be sure to do that the next game."
"Please do and tell me how it goes."
"Well I just wanted to call you to say goodnight."
"You're going to bed early."
"Well I don't have you next to me crying over how Sherriff Forbes died of cancer." she gasp loudly making me laugh.
"Take that back. Right now."
"I don't think I will."
"You try watching a series finding a character you love and then having them die only 5 seasons in."
"Fine you win. Anyways that was all I wanted to say. Goodnight Addie."
"Goodnight Chase. Sleep well. Don't dream too much of me." She repeats what I said to her like a week ago and my heart goes out of control. If only she knew.
"Hey that's my line." I say smiling.
"Not anymore. Goodnight." She says and I chuckle at that.
"Bye."
"Bye." We hang up and I don't know what to do know. Sleep? I tossed and turned time and time again, before I gave up and made my way downstairs. Grandma and grandpa were already gone, so were Amy and Dawn. When I make it downstairs I see dad in the kitchen. I grab a glass and fill it up with water walking over to the dining table and siting down in front of dad.
"Did you have a good day?" he asks out of the blue and I worry if something happened to him that he suddenly he wanted to know about my day. My father is not a bad person but he's never around, he had cheated on my mom in the past causing the problems to rise. And he had never treated me like a son, so you'd understand why I'm so shocked by his question.
"I had a good day."
"That's good." And then nothing else was said.
