~CHAPTER 26~

*•*•*•But it's all the same to me•*•*•*

It's been one week since my almost kiss with Chase and things have well gone back to normal, I had taken Cole's advice and went on another date with Max. This date was better than the last and we decided to go out next weekend again.

We were all currently in the art room doing nothing, while Ms. J grades art works. Our math teacher Mr. Waters was visiting his family in Kansas and she offered to be our substitute for the week. In the time that I've been in Henderson Ms. J has become my favorite teacher even if I suck ass at her class. And I know I've become her favorite student even if she won't admit it.

"What are we gonna do for Halloween?" May asks laying down on the floor next to the guys feet's with her own on top of Lizzie, who is resting her back against Lucas's legs, whereas I'm lying across their laps holding May's hand. We're all in a weird position but I can't imagine us being situated any other way.

"I don't know, I don't even know what I'm gonna wear." I say closing my eyes.

"We can do a group costume. All three of us." Lizzie says and May and I agree with her. I open my eyes when I feel a hand run their way through my hair and see that it's Chase's hand and smile at him.

"What about us." Lucas asks signaling at the three of them while Chase and Cole look at him as if he's crazy.

"We're not doing a group costume Lucas." Chase say and Lucas's smile fades.

"Don't worry Lucas you can join our group costume." I smile at him and excitement lights up his face once more.

"Yay. So what are you guys thinking?"

"I don't know maybe we can go as prisoners and you can be a cop."

"That's too cliché."

"You're right, we'll think of something don't worry."

"Yeah..." he sighs and I chuckle at him.

"In the meantime, I heard there's a haunted house in town we can go this weekend." Almost everybody agrees with me except Chase. "What about you Chase, you coming?" I look at him and see that he's already looking at me.

"Yeah, sure." He nods and kept running his hand through my hair.

"Ooh maybe you can invite Lexi, I'm sure she would love to come right?"

"Yeah she would love that." He smiles nodding.

...

Ahh lunch my favorite time of the day. Today the girls and I decided would sneak out to go get burgers. I can eat my weight in burgers or so says Sebastian. He's not wrong though. I'm a bottomless pit when it comes to food. After art we went to all of our classes like the good students that we are. And now well as you know we're going to get burgers out of school.

"Hey Officer Smith." I say laying my head on my hands that are perched at the edge of the half door of the guard booth.

"Hey Maddie what brings you here today?"

"Super-secret sneak out session with the girls." He laughs shaking his head

"Make sure, Mr. Cooper doesn't catch you or I will be in trouble."

"Thanks, Tom. See you soon." The girls and I walk towards my car and hop in, buckling our seatbelts and leaving the gates of school. "Okay so where are we going?"

"McDonalds?"

"Yes, but we have to make a little pit stop on the way."

"Okay." They say at the same time and I try to remember the way that Chase took us last time. I stop when I see the familiar sign of one of my now favorite Chinese food places.

"Chinese food?" Lizzie say and I shake my head turning the car off. The girls get out of the car after me and we go inside.

"Maddie!!" I hear the familiar voice of the Asian girl I met the last time I was here. Lexi appears from behind the counter in an apron and come to hug me.

"Hey Lexi." I chuckle wrapping my arms around her. "How are you?"

"I'm great. What about you?"

"I'm great. These are May and Lizzie my two best friends. Girls this is Lexi."

"Hey." They both say and Lexi greets them as well.

"What brings you guys here?"

"Well I was wondering if you wanted to have lunch with us. We snuck out and we were just headed to McDonalds." I explained and she nodded.

"Ooh yes. I love McDonalds. I do need to ask my grandma though, so I'll be right back." She points behind the counter and goes to the back while May turns to looks at me.

"She seems nice." She says and I nod.

"She is, we met the other day when Chase brought me here."

"When did he bring you here?" Lizzies chimes in.

"That time where he followed me to Walgreens just to see what I was doing. Well he says that he didn't follow me that he just jumped at the back of my car while I wasn't watching, but to me it's all the same."

"It's not cause if he followed you he would've needed to use his own car, but since he was in the back of your car he didn't follow you, you just took him with you without you knowing."

"That's exactly what he said." When I finished talking Lexi came back without her apron and with a furry cow print handbag that goes great with her black outfit and white sneakers. "Ready to go?"

"Yup." We all jumped into the jeep and off we were to McDonalds.

"McDonalds here we come." I pull up to the McDonalds drive through and we order a bunch of mcduos and fries, and by a bunch I mean a lot of food. I pay since I was the one that invited everybody and we park. We eat, we converse, the girls got along well with Lexi and I'm glad they did.

"So what's going on with you and Chase?" Lexi asks when was just about to put a fry in my mouth.

"What?" I eat my fry and look around the car seeing that they were all looking at me expectantly. I take a sip from my milkshake. "There's nothing going on."

"I saw the looks he was giving you the time he introduced me to you. He had heart eyes."

"No he didn't." I shake my head and look anywhere but at them.

"She's doing that thing, what haven't you told us?" May says.

"It's honestly nothing."  I stuff my face with fries, so I wouldn't have to talk.

"You're acting suspicious." I shake my head.

"No I'm not." They all look at me as if silently saying that they didn't believe me. "Fine, there was this moment when we almost kissed and then we were interrupted, but before you guys have your freak out it was already long ago and I'm going out with Max."

"You what?!" They all scream at the same time.

"You kissed him?" Liz asks and I shake my head.

"No I almost kissed him but didn't, because we were interrupted."

"But still that means-"

"It honestly means nothing it was a heat of the moment type of thing."

"Heat of the moment my ass we've been waiting for this since he started calling you princess."

"He calls you princess?" Lexi asks and I nod. "Aww that's so cute."

"He just does it to spite me."

"Yeah okay." May says scoffing. I roll my eyes and we finish eating in peace. I take Lexi back to the restaurant and tell the girls I'm taking her inside to say hi to her grandmother.

"Thank you for inviting me to lunch. And about that Max or Chase thing. Please make the right decision. It would break my heart to see my best friend's heart broken."

"He doesn't like me like that, he's not gonna get his heart broken if he doesn't like me."

"You'll see it soon enough."

"Yeah, yeah. Oh hey he's gonna mention this soon, there's a haunted house in town and I told him to invite you. This weekend?"

"I'll be there." Her phone rings and she shows it to me. It's Chase. "Hey what's up?" "A haunted house?"  "Yeah that sounds like fun, but aren't you the one that hates haunted houses?" "Well and answer to your question. I'll be there." She says nodding her head even though he can't see her.  "Bye." She hangs up and turns to me.

"I will be seeing you this weekend then."

"Bye Maddie."

"Bye." I get in the car and, me and the girls start driving back to school. I grab the bag of what was left of McDonald's and start walking out of the parking lot. I see Officer Smith going through some paper and start talking when he looks up. "Back before anybody noticed."

"Good job." He chuckles and goes back to his papers on his desk. "See you later Maddie."

"Bye." We walk into the Dining hall because most of the seniors were here since we had this hour free. I hide the McDonald's bag under my jacket, I can't just be waiving this contraband around, and there are vultures all around. I spot the guys, not all of them though, Chase isn't here. "Hello boys."

"Hello extraterrestrial." Cole says and I laugh sarcastically showing them the bag under my jacket.

"I'm guessing you don't want this then." He nods his head quickly and put the bag down on the table.

"When the hell did you guys leave to get McDonald's?" Lucas ask while we all sit down with them.

"At the beginning of the lunch hour." I shrug looking around, itching to ask the question that was ready to explode. Cole looks at me smirking and I roll my eyes.

"Lover boy is in the Art room."

"I wasn't looking for him, I was looking for Max. But since you mentioned him I'll take him some mickey d's."

"Bye." Lucas says as I exit the dining hall with the McDonald's bag in my hand, I enter the Art room and instantly see him painting something. He looks up at the sound of the door closing and smiles at me.

"Hey." I show him the McDonald's bag and he immediately pats the chair next to him and moves the easel to the right so I'd be more comfortable.

"When did you guys go to McDonald's?"

"Right after the bell rung for lunch time. I took the girls with me." He nods and starts eating his mcduo.

"This is so good." I nod and take a fry from the bag. "So I called Lexi and she said she'll come to the haunted house with us."

"I know she came to lunch with us." I say taking another fry while he had a shocked look on his face.

"Really?" I nodded and he smiled at me.

"What?" I smiled back. "Do I have something on my face?" I take my phone out and look at myself on my camera.

"Nothing, I'm just glad you guys got along." He finishes eating and that's when I noticed what he was painting.

"Oh my god Chase that's gorgeous."

"I honestly don't know what it is yet." It was a bunch of white and black lines in different patterns all around the canvas.

"It's abstract you don't need to know what it is to get it, everybody can see different things when it comes to abstract art, to me it looks like broken glass." I say and he nods.

"I guess it does doesn't it."

"I like it."

"Me too."

AUTHOR'S NOTE

Okay so I know this chapter is a little shorter than other chapters but that's only because I had to finish it there or else I wouldn't be able to publish three chapters for you guys. ANYWHORE how are you guys today my luvs, happy, excited, sad, angry, wanting to rob a back while eating a cheese burger in one hand and a water gun in the other? Talk to me I'm always here, I have no social life. Well let's talk about today's star, chapter 26, in this chapter I feel like it was filler chapter but at the same time not because like important things happened, it was mentioned a lot that Chase likes Maddie, we've known that since the beginning of the book, but anyways... nothing we can do until she figures it out.
