Chapter 91
I Kissed My Professor And He Liked It
Lilaâs POV I woke up groggily in a different bed than when I passed out in. I felt a stinging in my head, but it wasnât anything I couldnât manage.
I groaned miserably for a moment as I reached for my head and felt a tight bandage wrapped around it.
âDonât move too much, Lila Bean,â I heard the familiar and comforting voice of my mother from beside me. âYouâve gone through the wringer and your wolf isnât fully healed yet.â
I opened my eyes, wincing at the bright lighting of the room until my eyes adjusted and I was able to see that I was in a hospital. My mother stood at my bedside with worry clear in her eyes, but she also looked relieved to see that I was awake.
âWelcome back, sweetie,â she breathed, leaning down and kissing the top of my head.
âMom?â I whispered hoarsely. âWhereâs Brody?â
âHeâs going to be okay. He sustained way worse injuries. But the doctors say he will make a full recovery soon enough.â
I felt an overwhelming sense of relief to hear that.
âCan I see him?â
She frowned and shook her head.
âYou need to focus on your own recovery,â she told me.
âIâm a Volana. Iâll recover quickly.â
âBut they gave you starlight; so, your recovery is being delayed a little. Once you are fully healed, youâll be able to see him.â
I sighed and lay my head on my pillow. There was no use arguing with her and plus she was right; I wasnât confident that Iâd be able to get out of bed without falling over.
She gave me a soft smile and sat on my bedside.

âAlpha Enzo fought very hard to get you out of there. Youâre lucky you mindlinked him before they took you.â
I felt my face warming and I knew it was as red as a cherry. I had no excuses to give her that moment, but she just chuckled and shook her head, staring down at her hands.
âThings have a funny way of working out, you know,â she said to me softly. âTake it from me when I say, timing is everything.â
I wasnât sure what she meant, but somehow her words made me feel a little better.
âWhere is Alpha Enzo now?â I asked, peering up at her.
âI think he went back to his pack this morning. Youâve been here since yesterday and he had some stuff he needed to take care of,â she told me.
I felt a stab of disappointment that he had left me here, but I tried not to show that on my face.
âLila!â I heard the familiar coo of Bri as she ran into the hospital room with Rachel trailing in behind her.
Rachel had tears in her eyes and her bottom lip was quivering like she wanted to burst into tears.
âOh, my goddess...â Rachel breathed as she came around the other side of my bed.
My mother gave them both kind smiles before standing to her feet.
âIâll give you girls some space,â she said as she left the room.
Brianna wrapped her arms around me tightly and I couldnât help but wince in pain.
âSorry!â Bri said, feeling my wince as she released me. âI was just so worried about you. We all were!
How are you feeling?â
âLile Iâve been kidnapped and beaten,â I told her with a light chuckle. âBut nothing I canât recover from.â
âThis is all my fault...â Rachel breathed, tears streaming down her face.
âRachelââ
âIf I hadnât had insisted, we go get treats at the store...â she said, interrupting me. âThis wouldnât have happened. Iâm so sorry, Lila...â
âItâs not your fault,â I said to her, reaching out to grab her hand. âWe couldnât have predicted this would happen.â
âIt was so late though. I should have known it wouldnât be safe andââ
âI agreed to go,â I said, interrupting her. âThis isnât on you. Donât beat yourself up over this. Iâm okay...
honestly.â
âWhat was Brody even doing with you?â Rachel asked, shaking her head with confusion clear on her face. âWhy was he in Elysium?â
âHe was walking by and saw the commotion. He came to help me but got captured as well,â I said, grimacing at the memory. âHis grandmother lives here, and he was visiting her for the weekend. I donât think he knew I was here, but maybe he did...â I said with a shrug.
âHe could have been killed,â Brianna said with a frown. âI saw a glimpse of him earlier... he looks very beaten.â
I thought back to when I watched them beat Brody and I winced at the very thought. It wasnât something I ever wanted to think about again.
âIâm sorry you had to go through so much...â Rachel breathed. âIâm sorry I ran...â
âIf you hadnât had ran back to the packhouse, my father wouldnât have known something was wrong,â I reminded her. âYou saved me, Rachel. So, thank you.â
She thought about it for a moment and then a relieved smile spread across her lips as she nodded. I think she finally believed me because she relaxed and sat on my bedside.
âDid your father tell you they got the rehab facility shut down?â Rachel asked, peering over at me as Bri sat on the other side of the bed.
âHe didnât! Thatâs incredible news!â
âYeah,â she chuckled. âThe owners and most of the workers are getting arrested for their cruel treatment of other species. I guess others started coming forward about it as well.â
âIâm so glad to hear that. You must be so relieved... I know I am,â I said, hugging her gently.
âI am,â she said giving me a faint smile. âBut they are sending me elsewhere for a month. Another facility across the kingdom. Itâs a detox program. Itâs only for a month... but Iâm going to have to repeat this semester of school if I donât want to get expelled.â
âIâll be there waiting for you when you get back. So will Ryan,â I assured her.
âWill you tell me if he wakes up? His condition still hasnât changed. It hasnât improved or gotten worse.
But heâs still not awake.â
âYouâll be the first person I call when he wakes up,â I assured her again.
She nodded with relief on her face.
âWhen do you leave?â Brianna asked.
âTomorrow morning. Alpha Bastien is taking me himself. Heâs really great. Youâre lucky to have such a great father.â
I smiled at that and nodded in agreement.
âYeah, I am...â I agreed.
After a few moments of catching up, Brianna and Rachel finally left. I felt all sort of tired and I was ready to get some sleep.
The doctor came in and gave me some antibiotics and explained that I should be ready to leave the hospital in a couple of days. But they want to monitor me for a few days, just in case.
Once he left, I felt exhaustion taking over and I began to drift off to sleep.
Iâm not sure how long I was out for, but I felt a moment from beside me and when I woke up, I was shocked to see the person sleeping beside me in a chair. His head was on the bed and his body was in the chair.
I couldnât help but whisper out loud...
âProfessor Enzo?â
