Chapter 228 Scolding
I Hate You, Devil!
\"That man... what did he do to you?\" Juuâs voice was suddenly cold. It was so cold that Xiaolei immediately lifted her face to look at him. Sheâd never heard him speak like this before.
His facial expression didnât change but she could see danger in his eyes. His usually calm face was suddenly filled with bloodlust. She remembered that he also looked like this the first time she met him when he saved her from that kidnapper months ago. The harmless looking doll-like bodyguard of hers suddenly looked extremely dangerous.
Staring at his dangerous eyes, Xiaolei quickly shook her head. \"No, donât do anything Juu... Iâm fine. Itâs nothing serious. He just resembled a scary man I met when I was teenager.\" She lied and Juu somehow calmed down a little. She didnât have a choice but to lie to him. Juu had been watching her closely for four months, not letting anyone touch even a strand of her hair. He watched her the entire time just like how he watched Yu Chen when they were younger. She knew how vigilant and watchful he was so she was fully aware that she couldnât deceive him even if she told him that she wasnât scared.
\"Are you sure he just resembles that scary man youâre talking about?\" he still sounded suspicious. This man wasnât a talker to begin with but when it came to her safety, he wouldnât hesitate to speak his mind at all.
\"Mm. Itâs not him. Donât worry, I think Iâm just a little paranoid.\" Xiaolei tried to give him a more convincing statement but deep within her, her own statement was also for herself. It was true that she was being paranoid. She knew that their lives now were completely different. She never crossed his path before in this life so he had no more reason to hurt her. Besides, he couldnât hurt her anymore even if he tried to because this time, she was not the old Xiaolei and she was no longer alone. Even if something would go wrong again, she now had Yu Chen and everyone else by her side.
Eventually, the bloodlust in Juuâs eyes finally dissipated.
Xiaolei then looked intently into his eyes again. \"Juu, forget what happened today. Iâm not going to get scared of him again the next time we meet so you have nothing to worry about, okay?\" she urged and the man fell silent for a while, before he nodded.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
When Xiaolei released him from the force of her stare, a dangerous flare glimmered in Juuâs eyes again for a moment. It was obvious that he didnât buy Xiaoleiâs words. He could smell the scent of her fear. He knew that she was scared to her bones the moment that Yun Jinhan entered her office a while ago. Juu didnât know why but seeing her like that made him feel like he wanted to kill that guy.
\"Letâs go, I have to talk to Gu Jinyang now so we can go home early.\" Xiaolei then said and they both finally returned to her office.
...
Scarlet Hill.
It was already past noon when Yu Chen finished his therapy session for the day. He was resting after his meal when Gu Wei, the gossiping cat, sat next to him.
\"Boss, are you okay?\" he asked but Yu Chen just glanced at him, ignoring him as always. \"I mean... why do you look like youâre unhappy? Could it be that the news about your marriage broke your heart?\"
Yang Jin, who was busy behind them, almost gave Gu Wei a round of applause. This singular species really had the guts of a cat that had nine lives. Nice going, Gu Wei...
Yu Chen froze for a while upon hearing Gu Weiâs questions and then, without a word, he dropped his head and looked at the ground.
His reaction, of course, made Gu Wei gasp in shock and his imagination went wild. \"My god, boss!! You really are unhappy that you two finally got married?!!\" he burst out. \"I canât believe you! Youâve been chasing her since the beginning, remember? You wanted to marry her the first time you saw her, thatâs why you pursued her! And now, youâre unhappy? My goodness boss! You were even the one who signed your marriage certificate first!!\"
Yang Jinâs mouth dropped as he watched Gu Wei burst out, scolding his very own boss like he was his mother. Gu Wei... do you really not care if you die?!!
Yang Jin could only face palm himself, however, strangely, Yu Chen didnât even glare at him. Yu Chen, your bodyguard is scolding you and you are not doing anything but listen to him?! Damn, this is unbelievable... did being comatose for a long time turn you into an angel?!
\"Boss! You signed that certificate yourself and instructed your attorney to show it to her if something happens to you. You knew this would happen yet youâre heartbroken that it finally happened?!! Boss, are you even fully awake?! Could it be that youâre still half comatose?!!\" Gu Wei continued with his savage scolding. He had completely switched from a historian to a nagging mother.
Still, Yu Chen didnât react violently, not even a cold aura oozed out from him. Instead, he ran his fingers through his hair like he was truly devastated.
\"Youâre wrong,\" Yu Chen finally spoke. \"I didnât know that this would happen. I signed those papers for a different purpose.\"
\"Huh?!\"
\"And Iâm not heartbroken because weâre finally married. Iâm just mad at myself for failing to give her a proper and memorable wedding. I was even unconscious when she married me...\" he trailed off as he kept his eyes on the ground.
Gu Wei, the noisy mother was silenced. He was utterly speechless while Yang Jin didnât even know how to react.
Silence reigned until they suddenly heard someone chuckling in amusement. When Yu Chen lifted his face to see the owner of that familiar annoying laugh, he pulled his brows together upon seeing Zaki grinning at him as he leaned on the door.
\"It seemed like I arrived at the most perfect moment. My younger brother needs help, huh... Come, Yu Chen, Iâll help you with your problem.\"
