Chapter 10

The Betas Alpha

Carson^^

Carson's POV

"We're here," Jay sighed after our twenty-minute car ride to the best pizza shop around. A pout was still etched on my face as Jay got out of the car and came over to get me out. I really didn't want to eat a bunch of pizza, I was already fat enough.

The door opening broke me out of the depressing thoughts running through my head. Jay grabbed my hand and pulled me to his side. The electric feelings I got just from touching him made me dizzy. I can't even imagine anything that is more pleasurable. The tingles and the way my heart fluttered every time he was around took my breath away. His face tended to do that too.

"Welcome to Two Pizzas, Two Pies, Hungry Guys. What can I get you two today?" The peppy girl standing behind the counter asked. Jay held up a finger indicating we needed a moment making her smile brightly while nodding.

How can someone be so fudging happy?

"What do you want Doll?" Jay asked as he came to stand behind me. His arms were wrapped tightly around my waist and his chin was resting on my head. I had to fight the blush creeping up my neck as I looked over the menu. It had been so long since I had pizza because Alayna, my "mother", never let me eat it.

"Hawaiian pizza with barbecue sauce instead of pizza sauce," I told him a few minutes later. His head was now buried in my neck making it hard for me to focus. Jay's breath was fanning across my neck causing shivers to rack my body.

"Mmm'k," he whispered before moving out of my neck, placing a kiss on my temple, and pulling me up to the counter. I knew my face was on fire as he ordered; the lady standing there was staring at the two of us with a shocked expression on her face. I knew why too.

Her name was Abby and she went to our school. She had been in a few of my classes and she knew that Jay and I were best friends. Well more than best friends now, but nobody that wasn't part of the pack knew that. I mean there hadn't really been any time where we could tell our non-pack friends; they would find out eventually though.

"Your total will be $23.89." She told Jay after he had finished ordering. Before I could grab out my wallet, to pay, Jay was already handing over the cash.

"Thank you! Your food should be done in about five minutes." She told us while handing back Jay's change. We both nodded before grabbing our drink cups and walking over to the pop dispenser. Jay got Dr.Pepper while I got lemonade. I don't really like carbonated drinks.

"You smell really good." Jay murmured in my ear as he walked past me. My cheeks lit up with a blush at that compliment. Jay smelt like vanilla, strawberries, and with the most undertone scent of the forest. Not too much, but not too little. Just enough.

"You too," I whispered to myself. Of course, being the idiot that I am, I forgot he'd be able to hear me.

"Thank you!" He beamed at me. The blush on my cheeks deepened as I rushed over to the food counter. Jay laughed behind me as he followed to pick up our food. Abby came back out a minute later with two boxes of pizza, a box of breadsticks, and a small bag with dipping sauce.

"You two can eat here if you'd like. I just have to clean up, which is going to take me about an hour." She told us while pointing to the seats. It was 8:23 in the evening so the actual restaurant part of the pizza place will close down soon. They stay open until 11:00 for delivery or pick up orders. We thanked her before walking over to a table and getting situated.

"What do I smell like to you?" Jay asked randomly as we picked out our pizza and breadsticks.

"Vanilla, strawberries, and slightly foresty," I answered without skipping a beat. Right away I realized how creepy that sounded. Like stalker creepy.

"Well, I bet you smell better: coffee, chocolate, and caramel. That's the perfect combination; like you have no idea." He countered with a smirk. I rolled my eyes and kicked his shin under the table, but that didn't work too well. He caught my foot and pulled it up and onto his chair, between his legs. Then, I went to kick him again, with my other foot, and he did the same thing.

"I always win at footsies." He grinned in victory. I let out an exaggerated sigh along with an eye roll.

"Eat up Doll," he mumbled while taking a bite of his, meat-lovers, pizza. I followed in suit and took a bite of my Hawaiian pizza. When I ate it I could feel Jay's eyes staring at my every movement.

"What?" I asked while looking up at him. I could feel sauce on my lip but didn't really want to lick it off.

That was a bad idea.

Jay leaned over the table and used his thumb to push the barbecue sauce into my mouth. I was left staring wide-eyed at him as his thumb pressed down on my tongue.

"You had sauce...on your lip." He mumbled while pressing down on my tongue a little more. We were both silent as we stared deeply into each other's eyes. His were darkening while swirling with an electric blue color; meaning his wolf Zander wanted to take over. Issac, my wolf, was pushing for me to submit to him. His dominating gaze and demeanor weren't helping me win the internal fight.

"We should eat before they close," Jay whispered while pulling his thumb from my mouth. He ran his thumb over my bottom lip making a shiver run up my spine. A smirk set itself on his face as he went back to eating his pizza. I made sure to busy myself in eating so I wouldn't say or do, anything embarrassing.

Neither of us said anything while we ate. The only sound in the pizza joint was Abby cleaning up around the restaurant and the sound of us eating.

"We should probably start heading back. I wanna stop for ice cream, and before you try to protest I will drag your gorgeous ass to get ice cream." Jay told me made me go red. I nodded before standing up, picking up all my trash, and it away. I kept my pizza box and put the few remaining breadsticks in because I still had a lot of pizza left. Before I could start walking out to the car Jay was by my side grabbing my pizza box and wrapping an arm around my hips.

"Next stop: ice cream." He cheered as we got into his car. I took the pizza boxes from him and set them in the back seat as he started driving. The only ice cream shop that would be open was Dairy Twist; a small family-owned shop that was about five minutes away from the packhouse.

"So, to kill some time we should talk about the formalities of us being mates." Jay started sounding nervous and awkward. I knew why he meant though; he was alpha, and I was supposed to be the next beta. That wasn't going to work anymore.

"Yeah," I sighed looking over at him. He'd probably reject me. I mean he could find a strong female wolf that would be a great Luna. Someone that had alpha blood in them, they would have strong pure alpha kids. The pack would really benefit from that.

A hand grasping my own stopped my thoughts.

"Stop that. I'm not going to reject you, not now, not ever. I just meant that you're now going to be Luna and Miles will have to become beta. Then we'll have to pick a new gamma. I wanted to make sure that was okay with you; I don't want to do anything without you agreeing." He comforted me with a warm smile. I've seen him smile a countless amount of times, but this time it was different. It wasn't the same best friend smile he had reserved for me; this one was loving, caring, a smile every wolf had for their mate.

"Yeah, I knew that; I'm okay with it. Miles will be a better beta, he'll definitely be a great beta." I told him honestly. It was true. Miles was more of a beta than I ever was or ever could be. His body was bigger than mine, and he's wasn't scared to hurt someone for the pack's safety. It's not that I was, it's just that I always felt bad after doing so. That's not a good quality for a beta.

But it is a fantastic quality for a Luna. Issac reminded me throughout the private mind-link. I hummed in response making Jay look over at me. He smiled when he realized I was talking to me annoying wolf.

You love me; maybe not as much as you do Jay, but still a lot. That made me blush majorly. I really hated that we shared a mind. He knew everything about me: every thought, every feeling, every feeling, simply everything. He liked to tease me about it too.

You cannot even mention that. I told him.

So you're never going to tell him that you've been hopelessly in love with him for over a year? He asked even though he already knew the answer. Jay couldn't know that I've liked him since before we found us about us being mates. He'd hate me.

But, before I could answer we were pulling up to the ice cream parlor.

"I'm just going to go through the drive-through. What do you want?" He asked as he pulled up behind a car that was ordered.

"Twist with sprinkles, in a cup," I answer with my normal order. He hummed as we pulled up to order.

"A medium twist with sprinkles, in a cup, and large chocolate with the chocolate hard shell, in a cup." He told the person taking the orders through the little box.

"Okay, that will be $6.78 at the window." He told us. Jay thanked him before pulling right up to the window seeing as the car in front of us already got their ice cream.

"$6.78 please," the man repeated our price before Jay handed him the money.

I wanna pay for something.

"$0.22 is your change. Here's your ice cream," he told us while handing Jay a small, brown paper, bag. We both automatically thanked him before driving away. Jay didn't drive too far before stopping.

"Jay?" I questioned while looking around our surroundings. We were at an abandoned parking lot somewhere.

"I wanted to eat my ice cream. Stop worrying so much." He laughed at my scared expression. Before I could do anything else Jay was unbuckling me and pulling me into his lap.

"I also wanted to hold you." He mumbled while grabbing both of our ice creams from the bag and handing mine to me.

Fight the blush!
