Chapter 280 - 280 Root Cause
Conquering His Cold Heart
280 Root Cause
Hamilton hurriedly jumped out of the bed and rushed to stand in front of the door so as to stop Caspian from taking any decision in haste.
âWhat do you mean by you are going to Xanmar right now?â He pressed his palm over Caspianâs chest and pushed him back. âI know you are angry and I know that you want to shut him up for good. But you shouldnât let your emotions take over your judgment.â
Caspian glared at Hamilton and asked in a loud voice, âThen what do you want me to do? Do you want me to sit down and wait for him to make his other move?â
âNow I am pretty sure that Everard had orchestrated that attack on us because he wanted to kill us all and kidnap my wife!â he screamed at the top of his voice, his eyes looking as deadly as that of a lion that was being teased by a pack of hyenas.
âCaspian! Just calm down for a moment!â Hamilton snapped back at that unruly vampire and quickly opened the door to check the corridor outside. He wanted to make sure that the Queen wasnât listening in to those screams of Caspian.
When he just saw a few guards in the vicinity, he closed the door back in relief. He was also relieved that the room where they were in at the moment was very far away from the Queenâs chamber.
However, he still scolded his cousin. âWhat if the Queen was around and she overheard your scream? I thought the doctors asked you to keep her away from mental stress as well as physically straining activities. Donât make her worry for no reason! Else her sickness will flare again.â
Caspian calmed down a little after Hamilton mentioned that. But his anger hadnât completely subsided to think clearly.
So, he simply argued again, but in a much softer tone, âAs I said, I donât want to sit back and wait for that bastard to make another move. If I take care of the root cause of the problems that we might face in the future then my wife wonât be stressed out in the future again.â
.....
Hamilton sighed at that impenetrable mind of Caspian. âMaybe I should have kept it to myself,â he thought to himself as he regretted quoting Everardâs exact words and then making Caspian angry. âMaybe it would have been better if I used subtle hints to warn Caspian about Everard.â
However, now that everything was done, Hamilton tried to make Caspian understand that there was no benefit in acting out of anger.
âYes, you should take care of the problem at its root. But right now, you donât have sufficient evidence that point that Everard is the culprit. Though he said those things to me, thereâs still no guarantee that he was the one behind the attack. And we donât know if that filthy werewolf was just running his mouth or if he is actually capable of taking such drastic action.â
âArghhhhhhhh!â Caspian grabbed a handful of his hair and screamed in frustration. He crouched down and then grumbled, âWhat the hell am I supposed to do then?â
Right at that moment, they heard a knock on the door.
âWhatâs going on? Why are you being so loud?â
They heard Vincentâs voice from outside. Hamilton was so relieved to hear Vincentâs voice because he wasnât sure how many more minutes he would have been able to keep his bull-headed cousin inside the room.
He quickly opened the door and then welcomed Vincent inside. âHey! Come in.â
As Vincent walked inside the room, looking at Caspian with a confused expression on his face, Hamilton tried to clear up Vincentâs confusion, âAsk your friend to hold his horses. I told him what that werewolf King said to me. And he thinks he can take down that King right inside his castle.â
Vincent already knew what was messing up Caspianâs head since Hamilton had already shared everything with him yesterday night.
He knelt down beside Caspian and patted his friendâs shoulder to comfort him. âCaspian, this is not the time to act irrationally. We need to take calculative steps, or else, everyone and everything is bound to be doomed.â
Caspian was still holding his head with both of his hands and crouching down like a child who had just lost a game.
Vincent took a deep breath in and tried to break through into Caspianâs shielded mind, âYou asked Zenon to carry out the investigation, right? Wait for him to provide you with the results of his investigation.â
Vincent tightened his grip on Caspianâs shoulder and then further said with determination, âBe patient until then. But if you find out that Everard was the one behind that attack, I will support your decision even if you want to wage a war against Xanmar. I will be ready to fight at the front line.â
Caspian finally raised his head and then looked at his friendâs face. His sharp eyes were burning with anger. He then glanced at Hamilton.
And in response, Hamilton resolutely said, âI am always against anything that disturbs my current peaceful life. And whoever it was, they have already made their first move to ruin this peaceful life of mine. So, I am ready to ruin their peace as well.â
After listening to those two, a realization dawned inside Caspianâs mind. âThis is not my personal war that I can settle by killing Everard. This involves everyone. I shouldnât be taking any rash decision, or else, it will come back and bite me⦠Not just me but everyone.â
Caspian heaved a deep sigh and then finally got back up on his feet. He looked at Hamilton and said, âThank you for revealing that werewolfâs cheap thoughts. I will keep that at the back of my head for now.â
Hamilton was still not moving an inch away from the door. He raised his brows and asked Caspian, âSo⦠youâre not going to run towards Xanmar as soon as I step aside, right?â
Caspian sighed and replied, âI wonât. At least not yet.â
Both Hamilton and Vincent let out a sigh of relief. But they were still not letting Caspian get away from their sight.
