Chapter 520
Revenge is Best Served After Reborn (James)
Upon hearing this, Colt hesitated for a moment before Sophie reassured him, âDon't worry, I'm just going to have a brief chat with them. It won't bring any trouble to you or Mr. Burke.â
Colt quickly lowered his head, responding, âYes, ma'am.â
Soon after, Colt drove Sophie to the Devins' residence.
The Devins were over the moon with the contract they had just secured. When the housekeeper saw Sophie arriving, she promptly went inside to inform the Devins, who all straightened their faces upon hearing the news.
Morris frowned, âWhatâs she doing here?â
âHoney, maybe we should just send her away. Sheâs Jamesâ wife. Surely, sheâs in league with the Burkes!â
âYouâre right, send her away!â
Just as Morris finished speaking, Calla suddenly spoke up, âDad, Mom, maybe we should let Ms. Sophie in.â
âYou naive child, what do you know? Sheâs definitely here to plead on behalf of the Burke family!â
âThatâs not true. It was Sophie who reminded me time and again to ask for this contract. Without her, would we have had the courage to approach the Devins for money? Maybe sheâs here to help us as well.â
Morris then nodded, saying, âIf thatâs the case, then let her in. I want to see what the Burke familyâs daughter-in-law is really here for!â
Once Morris gave the word, the housekeeper quickly ushered Sophie in.
Morris noticed Sophie come alone, he put on airs, and said, âWeâre just a modest family, Mrs. Burke. Itâs quite a bother for you to come all this way. If youâre here to intercede on behalf of Bea Burke, then we have nothing to discuss.â
âMr. Devins, I havenât even spoken yet, and youâve already made your decision. Isnât that a bit premature?â Sophie smiled.
Callaâs mother Paige stood up and approached her, saying, âMs. Sophie, I wonder if you remember me. Weâve met before.â
Sophie smiled back, saying, âMr. and Mrs. Devins, you are quite the model couple. Iâve heard much about you, and weâve indeed met a few times.â
Paige nodded, saying, âCalla told me that it was thanks to your help that she was able to secure the contract without being bullied by the Burkes. I owe you my thanks, Ms. Sophie.â
âNo need for thanks. I was also doing it for myself.â
Sophie then took a box out of her bag and opened it, revealing a sapphire ring inside. Paige, who knew her jewels, was instantly captivated. âThis, this is...â
âThis is something Bea asked me to give to you. Itâs said to be a royal ring from a century ago.â
The Devinsâ eyes sparkled at the mention, and it was clear how precious a century-old royal artifact could be.
Paige held it in her hand, examining it closely. âThis looks like it could be worth millions...â
âSo, Bea intends to use this as a debt settlement. Iâve brought this over to discuss a business deal with you.â
Realizing Sophie was here for business, everyone became serious. Morris asked sternly, âSo, Mrs. Burke, youâre speaking on behalf of the Burke family?â
âNot at all. If I were speaking for the Burke family, I wouldnât have advised Ms. Calla on how to protect her own interests in the first place.â
Paige, puzzled, asked, âThen Ms. Sophie, you are here because...â
âIâm here to ask what you three think of this ring.â
âThink?â Paige glanced at Morris, then managed a strained smile. âWeâre just a humble family. Since the ring is of such high value, of course, we have no objections to accepting it.â
Seeing Paige satisfied, Sophie turned to Morris, asking, âMr. Devins, do you agree?â
âIf the ring can be sold, it would certainly bring in a substantial amount of money. I have no objections.â
Morris, a small-time businessman, acknowledged that he couldnât earn as much as the ringâs worth in half a lifetime. Thus, he acquiesced.
Sophie then said, âIndeed, the ring is worth a billion, but if it ends up with you, selling it might not be so straightforward.â
Hearing Sophieâs words, Paige looked puzzled, asking, âMs. Sophie, what do you mean? The ring is in good condition. Why would it be hard to sell?â
The ring seemed of high quality, and given its century-old provenance, it would surely fetch a good price at auction.
Sophie smiled, saying, âPaige, it seems youâre not quite familiar with the jewelry market. Even if the sapphire is precious, itâs only suitable for collection. Without the right buyer, it could end up being a loss.â

âPaige, think about it. How could Bea so easily part with such a precious item? Do you think she wouldn't know itâs much more valuable than cash?â
