Chapter 147
Revenge is Best Served After Reborn (James)
In no time at all, the discharge procedures were completed, and Adler went downstairs to fetch the car.
When Sophie changed out of her hospital gown, she glanced at the room next to hers where James had been staying, but ultimately she followed Jenna and left the hospital.
Outside the hospital, Sophie spotted Colt's car, and Nichole's face was reflected in the rear window.
By evening, James was slowly waking up in his hospital bed, only to see a blurry figure bustling around him.
âSophie,â James called out softly.
The figure paused momentarily, and when it turned around, it was Nichole, smiling sweetly. âJames, youâre finally awake.â
Nichole set a cup of water aside and said, âI came straight here after class to check on you. Are you feeling okay? Should I call the doctor?â
A flash of disappointment crossed James' face. His voice was a bit hoarse, "Whereâs Sophie?â
Nicholeâs smile froze briefly, but soon softened again. âSophie? Sheâs already been discharged.â
Hearing this, James pursed his lips. She was in such a rush to leave?
âCall Colt in.â
Nichole noticed James was still preoccupied with Sophie, she bit her lip and said, âJames, youâve been so seriously injured, and Sophie hasnât visited you once. Maybe you should stop thinking about her.â
James felt as if he had been struck hard, his voice grave, âDid she really not come to see me even once?â
Nichole shook her head, âShe didnât come. This afternoon, she left with Colby. They...â
Nichole trailed off.
James was no fool. Even in his groggy state, he understood the implication of Nicholeâs words.
There was something going on between Sophie and Colby.
Outside, Colt pushed the door open and frowned, âMs. Nichole, visiting hours are nearly over. You should head back.â
Nichole wanted to say more, but James simply said, âYou should go back. Itâs late.â

After Nichole had left, James picked up his phone from the bedside table. Not a single message from Sophie appeared on the screen.
Even Nichole had come to see him, but Sophie had left without a word, not even a greeting.
The next second, James dialed the home phone. âMarian, has Sophie returned?â
âShe hasnât been back all day.â
James' expression turned colder, tinged with a hint of anger.
So, Sophie and Colby were still together.
James clenched his phone tightly. The thought of Sophie and Colby being alone together was unbearable for him. Quickly, James ended the call and got up from the hospital bed.
A nurse entering the room was startled to see James fully dressed, âYou shouldnât be out of bed yet!â
âMove.â Buttoning up his shirt, James strode out of the room.
Colt immediately approached him, âMr. Burke, the doctor said you need to rest. You canât be discharged.â
âGive me the car keys.â
Colt hesitated but dared not disobey James, reluctantly he handed over the keys.
