Vihan's POV
Why nooo! She has a right to get settled and have a family life of her own. My inner voice argued. I was annoyed.
Go away!! I yelled at my inner voice. It didn't reply.
Was I falling for Roohi?
No, you are already in love with her.
Will you shut up?? I do love her but as my friend.
Great!! Then start planning for your best friend's wedding, Roohi's family is looking for a suitable groom for her.
Why don't you go and leave me alone?
Aww.. I will not leave you alone even if Mihir, Gauravi, and Roohi get married to their life partners and leave you alone. Garv seems to be a nice man, isn't he?
Ughhh!! No! She is not getting married to that man.
Then, name one person to who she can get married.
Maybe Mihir, but he was in love... Anyway, he is already married.
So convenient for you. Name another person who is good for her according to you.
Don't you have anything else to do?
No!! I am here to make you realize what you want. You want Roohi.
No! I don't... She is my friend.
Then why are you stalking her?
I am not!
You are!! You followed her to the bar where she was. You wanted to beat that Krish.
Because he was flirting with Roohi.
So what? Men have flirted with Gauravi as well; you were never so bothered with that.
That's because I knew she could handle it on her own. And Mihir was in love with her.
So what? She is your best friend too. And how do you know if Roohi can handle it or not? Let her handle it on her own. Maybe she meets her future husband like this. You just think of your outfit for her wedding as she would not choose your outfit this time as well.
Shut up or I will kill you.
You are an idiot!! Live with it.
I need to talk to her... Right now. She was not picking up the call so I picked up the car keys and drove to her place.
On the way, my phone rang. It was a girl Iâd been pursuing for a date.
âHey,â her voice lilted with a playful tone.
I remembered how Iâd asked her out before Mihirâs sangeet. Sheâd told me she was busy but would consider it afterward. And here she was now, flirting lightly, asking if I was free to go out tonight.
A few days ago, this would have made my day. I would have jumped at the chance, but right now, my heart wasnât in it. âIâll let you know,â I told her vaguely before ending the call.
Unfortunately, she wasnât who I wanted to talk to at the moment, Roohi was. Sheâd been on my mind since morning, her presence clouding every thought.
As I neared her house, I mentally rehearsed my words. Should I ease into the conversation, or should I confront her head-on? I decided on the latter. Subtlety had never worked between us.
When I arrived, I was greeted by her Taiji, Priya Aunty. She was my mom's friend and had always been warm and welcoming, which made what I was about to do even more nerve-wracking.
âVihan! Itâs such a pleasant surprise to see you here,â she said with a kind smile.
âGood evening, Aunty. One of our old batchmates is hosting a party tonight, and I couldnât reach Roohi on her phone. I thought Iâd drop by to let her know and pick her up,â I lied, my voice steady.
She nodded in understanding. âWait here, Iâll call her.â
As she went to fetch Roohi, I scanned the familiar interiors of her house. It was just as lively as ever, with laughter echoing from the kitchen and the faint aroma of something delicious wafting through the air.
Moments later, Roohi appeared, looking puzzled and a little annoyed.
âVihan? What are you doing here?â she asked.
âWe need to go. Thereâs a party. Get ready,â I said, hoping she wouldnât question me further.
âA party? Whose party?â
âAn old batchmateâs. Now, hurry up.â
She hesitated, her brows furrowing. âI donât thinkââ
âRoohi, just trust me. Youâll have fun,â I interrupted, trying to sound casual.
With a sigh, she relented and went to her room to change. As I waited, I heard footsteps behind me and turned to see Ron approaching. His expression was guarded, his posture tense.
âWhat are you doing here, Vihan?â he asked, his tone bordering on hostile.
âI came to pick up Roohi. Weâre going to a party,â I replied, keeping my voice light.
âWhose party?â
âAn old batchmateâs. You donât know him,â I said smoothly.
Ron crossed his arms, his eyes narrowing. âSheâs not going anywhere with you.â
"I donât need your permission. Besides, Priya Aunty has already agreed.â
His jaw tightened, and for a moment, I thought he might argue further. But then he stepped aside, muttering, âBring her back before 11. If youâre late..."
I bit back my annoyance and nodded. There was no point in escalating things. Ron was fiercely protective of Roohi, and I wasnât here to pick a fight.
âI get it, Ron,â I cut him off with a smirk. âYouâll come looking for me with a shotgun or something. Got it.â
Roohi returned then, dressed in a very pretty icy blue dress, looking effortlessly beautiful. Ron shot her a look, his unspoken warning hanging in the air.
I escorted her to my car, my heartbeat quickening.
Once we were in the car, an uncomfortable silence settled between us. I couldnât help but steal glances at her, trying to gauge her mood. She seemed distant, her arms crossed, her gaze fixed out the window.
When we arrived at the restaurant, Roohi looked around, confused. âHey, where is everyone?â
I hesitated for a moment before deciding to come clean. âThereâs no party. I just⦠wanted to spend some time with you.â
Her brows furrowed. âVihan, Iâm really tired. You could have just talked to me at home.â
âLetâs at least have dinner now that weâre here,â I urged.
She sighed but nodded, picking up the menu. The tension in her shoulders hadnât fully eased, but I hoped the meal would smooth things over.
