Vihan's POV

A man. Mid-thirties, lean build, with a slightly unkempt appearance. His clothes were plain — a grey shirt untucked over faded jeans. A cap was pulled low over his eyes, and a scruffy beard covered half his face.

The moment I saw him, I knew something was off. The man stood out immediately. He wasn’t just walking. He was prowling.

He moved with a nervous energy, glancing around like a rat searching for a hole to dart into. His eyes shifted left, then right, scanning the corridor. He looked like he didn’t belong. Like he was waiting for something — or someone.

I pushed off the wall, my muscles coiling with tension. I moved closer to him without making a noise, his hands stuffed deep into his pockets. He lingered near the door, peeking in, then glancing behind him. Suspicious. Too suspicious.

My heart pounded.

I moved slowly, silently closing the distance between us. He hesitated near the supply room door, glancing behind him one last time, and that’s when I saw that he pulled a small package from his pocket — brown paper, neatly wrapped, with a plain white card taped to it.

I clenched my jaw, my pulse hammering in my ears.

This ends now.

I was on him. In three quick strides, I was behind him before he could take another step.

“Hey!” I called out, my voice echoing in the quiet hallway.

The man froze.

“Looking for someone?” My voice was cold, cutting through the silence.

The man flinched, spinning around. His eyes — dark, restless — met mine, wide with surprise. “I… no, I was just…”

“Just what?” I stepped closer, my eyes locked on his. “Dropping off a gift? A card? Who sent you?"

“N-No one!” he stammered, backing up until his shoulders hit the wall. “I swear, I’m not here—”

“Don’t lie to me.” I grabbed his arm, feeling his thin muscles tighten under my grip. My patience was gone. “Tell me the truth, or I’ll make sure you regret stepping foot in here. I will hand you over to the police.”

He squirmed, his breath coming fast. “I’m not here for that! Please, believe me! I was just… I… I wanted some extra supplies. That’s all!”

“Supplies?” My grip didn’t loosen. “Explain. Now.” He squirmed, looking around desperately for help.

His eyes darted around again, searching for a way out, but I was not going to leave him. Just like that, the guards were with me, and he knew there was no way out.

“Medicines!” he blurted. “My cousin works here. He told me I could sneak in sometimes and grab things to sell at my shop. Please, I’m not the one you’re looking for!”

I stared at him, the heat of my anger simmering just beneath the surface but my mind was racing. His words were desperate, but his terror was real. This man wasn’t lying. He was a thief, not a stalker.

“You’re stealing?” I growled.

He nodded frantically. “Only a little! Just little things! Please! I didn’t mean any harm.”

"What is in that brown paper pack?"

"Money...his share." He said. Keeping my grip firm, I dragged him out of the department, ignoring the curious stares from passing nurses and staff. My grip didn’t falter as I shoved him against the wall outside.

“Who’s your cousin?” I snapped.

He squirmed again, clearly wishing he could vanish. “A ward boy… Harish."

" Since when has this arrangement been going on? "

" He’s been doing this for a couple of years. I have been involved for a year. He told me it was safe.” he said looking scared.

“Not anymore.”

I let go of his arm with a shove, pushing him against the wall. His eyes filled with terror as I pulled out my phone.

" Sir, please don't call the police. I am a very poor man, my family would be ruined. I have old parents, a wife, and kids. They would not be able to show their faces.

“Listen carefully,” I said, my voice was low and dangerous. “I’m reporting this to the Head of the department; if you don't want me to involve the police, confirm your story with HOD. ”

He nodded and sagged against the wall, his shoulders trembling with relief when he realized I wasn’t calling the cops — not yet.

"You’re lucky I’m not calling the police — yet. But if I ever see you or hear your name again, you’ll be behind bars. Do you understand me?

He nodded frantically, his eyes wide with fear. “I understand! I swear!”

It didn’t take long to confirm his story. A quick word with the HOD and Harish was suspended immediately. The man I’d caught slunk away, his head down and shoulders hunched, grateful to escape with only a warning.

But the anger inside me hadn’t cooled.

This wasn’t the man. I had stopped a petty thief, but the real danger — the anonymous sender — remained a mystery.

Disappointment churned in my gut as I turned away from the department, my fists clenching at my sides.

The real stalker hadn’t shown up. Maybe he will come tomorrow.

But I wasn’t giving up.

Not until I put an end to this once and for all.

It was almost time for Roohi to come. I needed to see her. Needed to make sure she was safe.

And I would — even if I had to tear apart every corner of this place to find the truth. I went to her department again. But I was shocked when I reached. My blood started to boil again.
