Chapter 129
Billionaire’s Missing Darling
âWhy donât you say something, Great Scientist? Could it be that you canât afford it?â Ethan stared at Olivia with a sharp gaze.
The others began to whisper.
âOh my, donât tell me she doesnât want to pay for it?â
âI heard them talking just now. They said the dress Olivia is wearing is made from a tailorâs shop. She canât even afford a proper gown. I bet she doesnât have much money.â
âThatâs for sure. Didnât she make a righteous remark just now? I thought she was some outstanding scientist whose name would go down in history. As it turns out, she couldnât pay a single cent. How embarrassing.â
No matter what they said, Olivia just leaned against the railing quietly with an indifferent expression.
Seeing this, Ethan sneered. âDoes she think that she could get away by playing dumb?
He stroked Emmaâs hand to comfort her. Then, he smirked and was about to speak to Olivia.
Right then, a dignified and elegant middleâaged woman in a gown made her way through the crowd and walked up to Olivia. âMiss Olivia.â
Olivia nodded. âIs he here?â
The middleâaged woman replied, âYes, he is.â
Just as everyone was wondering what they were talking about, a stylish old man rushed over.
After looking at him for a while, they said in shock, âAbel! The worldârenowned designer, Mr. Abel Dubois!â
It was understandable that people didnât recognize Abel right away. He used to dress very fashionably whether at a show or a party and had a unique and quirky style that stood out among many celebrities.
However, other than the face, the old man in front of him looked nothing like Abel.
His hair was flat, looking as if he had just randomly applied hair gel on it. Instead of wearing uncommon outfits as he did in the past, he was clad in 10.8 an ordinary suit, exuding an air of simplicity, But he was indeed Abel.
Seeing the old man, Oliviaâs face brightened up a little. She nodded at him and said, âSorry to trouble you to come all the way here.â
Abel waved his hand anxiously. âNo, no, youâre being too polite. Itâs my honor to be able to assist you.
Itâs no trouble at all.â
As soon as he finished speaking, everyone was stunned.
âGosh, is this really Abel? The insufferably arrogant and confident Abel?â âAnd what is Oliviaâs relationship with him? Why is Abel so respectful to her?â
The crowd was confused.
Abel took a deep breath and walked to Emmaâs side. After examining the gown carefully, he concluded, âIt can be fixed.â Then, he turned to look at Olivia. âMiss Olivia, donât worry. This dress can be fixed.â
âOkay, thank you,â Olivia said politely. Afterward, she pointed to the middleâaged woman and said to Abel. âIf you need anything, you can talk to Blake.â
Ethan did not expect a sudden turn of events. He frowned and questioned Olivia, âWhat are you doing?â
Olivia slowly raised her head. Before she could reply, Abel spoke with annoyance, âCanât you see?
Miss Olivia is trying to compensate for the damage of the gown.â
Ethan choked on his words and looked at Abel with hostility. But he kept his manners and asked, âMr.
Dubois, are you paying the compensation on Oliviaâs behalf? May I ask what is your relationship?â
The crowdâs curiosity was instantly aroused by Ethanâs words.
âOh, gossip.â
Some people who had improper thoughts shifted their gazes between Olivia and Abel, weaving a romantic fantasy in their heads.
Abel was originally checking the gown. When he heard that, he suddenly straightened up his body and said in a serious tone, âIâm not obliged to tell you about my relationship with Miss Olivia. But you are questioning her character. In order to dispel your doubts and indecent thoughts, Iâm going to explain everything to you.â
Abel paused and turned to look at Olivia with gratitude. âSix years ago, my granddaughter fell seriously ill. It was Miss Olivia who came forward and saved her life. So, Miss Olivia is the Dubois familyâs savior.â
Abelâs words were like a slap to Ethanâs face and a condemnation of his evil mind.
Ethanâs face darkened, but with great effort, he managed to maintain his composure. He nodded reluctantly and said. âOh, I see. So, Mr. Dubois, you came to fix the dress to repay her kindness?â
Abel shook his head. âNo, Iâm not repaying her kindness by fixing the dress, but by making this dress.â
âWhat do you mean?â
Emmaâs face stiffened and she subconsciously clenched her fists.
Abel glanced at the gown Emma was wearing and slowly explained why he made Angel.
âThis gown is my gift to Miss Olivia. Every diamond was personally selected by me which symbolizes Miss Oliviaâs pure and empathetic heart. The gown was meant to be given to her, so itâs only for exhibition and not for sale.
âHowever, a few days ago, Miss Olivia saw the gown and didnât like it very much. She didnât want to wear it. The gown thus lost its purpose. And it just happened that Mrs. Taylor wanted to buy it, so I sold it to her.â
As soon as he finished speaking, the room erupted with exclamations. They didnât expect that there was such a story behind the gown.
It turned out that Olivia had rejected it. However, after Emma had gotten it, she treated it like a treasure and couldnât stop showing it off.
âHow is this possible?â Emma muttered in disbelief Then, she seemed to have thought of something and her eyes widened with surprise. Without caring if she was acting with proper decorum, she grabbed Abelâs sleeve and said, âMr. Dubois, we asked you to fit the gown on me two days ago, but you said you didnât have time. Were you altering a dress for Olivia?â
Abel nodded. âMiss Olivia doesnât like Angel. Fortunately, Iâd designed two gowns for her at that time.
One was Angel and the other was Autumnâ¦â
Before he could finish speaking, he was interrupted by a woman. âMr. Dubois, the Autumn that youâre talking about, is it the dress Mss Olivia is wearing?â
Abel nodded. âYes, this is the one.â
âOh my god!â The woman covered her mouth, her hand trembling.
She couldnât believe it was actually Abelâs work. They had all been saying it was a shabby dress from an amateur tailor.
The womanâs face turned red when she thought of the sarcastic words she had said. She felt extremely embarrassed and wished to find a hole and hide in it.
Ameliaâs face was gloomy. She was not only embarrassed but also very puzzled. âSince it is Mr.
Duboisâs work, why didnât Olivia say it?â Frowning deeply, Amelia looked at Olivia in bewilderment.
âWhy didnât you just say it is Mr. Duboisâs work? Why didnât you explain it?â
She questioned, âDid you do this on purpose to embarrass us?â
Amelia had the tendency to speculate Oliviaâs intention with maximum malice.
âExplain what?â Olivia raised her eyebrows slightly. Her eyes were cold. âThis isnât a branded dress, and it was indeed a gift from an old friend. Have I misled you in any way?â
Olivia chuckled. Her cold eyes revealed a trace of mockery. âWhat a joke. When you didnât know it was Abelâs work, you denigrated it. But once you found out that it was his work, you started to sing praise of it. Donât you have any aesthetic sense? Or do you only judge a piece of clothing based on the designerâs name?â
These words made the other womenâs faces turn red with shame.
At first, they thought that the dress was beautiful. But later on, when they discovered that it didnât have a brand name, they belittled it.
Oliviaâs eyes swept across everyoneâs face. âTo me, this is just a gown I like. No matter who designs it, itâs just a gown.â Her tone was calm but carried a strength that could not be ignored.
She was truly domineering.
Everyoneâs heart skipped a beat as they looked at Olivia. They felt that she was nothing like what the rumors had said. She was not that selfâabase. On the contrary, she was incredibly tough.
Olivia seemed to be innately endowed with great confidence and dignity.
