Anytime
When You Least Expect It
There was a moment. We had a moment. It hits me so hard as to how much I wanted that moment. The more time I spend with Vic, I find myself falling harder for him. This wasn't supposed to happen. Yes, I always had a crush on him. Yes, I always thought he was hot. But I knew he needed someone, a friend and that was my plan; to be his friend. So his friend I am. That's it. That's all.
I know he's going through so much and he's making such strides. I'm so proud of him. I think I made a mistake kissing him, I'm going to regret that. I already am because I know it's something that I can't do again.
We're silent as we stroll over to the large kilns, there's a fence around the perimeter. My neck cranes upward at the brick structures. "Wow!" It comes out low but not quite a whisper. The sheer size of them is incredible.
"Cool, right?" Vic says from my right.
"Yeah. It's so neat and fascinating." It should matter but I need to know. "Did you bring the viper out here?"
"Nah, not her thing." He chuckles to himself and it pique's my attention. I lean on the fence and face him. He's lost in some kind of thought, his eyes on the kiln but not focused. I take in his handsome profile, his dark ruffled hair, the shadows of stubble on his jawline, and his plumb lips. His bottom lip plumper than the top, he has amazing lips. I cannot believe this man was cheated on. What the actual fuck!
If he was my man, no guy would even compare, I wouldn't even need to look elsewhere. Vic seems to snap out of his reverie and faces me with a smile. "C'mon there's these plaques with history and information." He leads me over to the first one, and then the next.
I whip out my phone, swipe open my camera and lift it, "Smile." I snap a selfie of the two of us then study the picture on my screen. Damn we look good together. He flicks my wrist, "Send that to me." and then walks further out as I forward the picture, "What are you doing?" I yell out.
He lifts his phone and seems to be snapping pictures, then returns to my side. He holds his phone out to me, he took pictures of the kilns and managed to actually snap a great shot of me looking at him among the others with my mouth open. "Oh, that's actually pretty good!"
"Yeah." he says with amusement. "I don't think it's possible for you to look bad." My head snaps to look at him, he glances away and rubs the back of his neck. "I'll send this to you."
"Alright."
"You ready to get back?" he glances around the park landing on an older couple walking together. Penny for your thoughts Victor...
We begin to make our way back to Victor's car, "Yeah, I gotta do some inventory count for the bar so I'll be starting earlier than normal. You have any plans for tonight?"
"Nah, probably just me and Marlin tonight. Maybe I'll see what my brothers are up to." He sighs.
I want to tell him he's always welcome to come hang out at the bar and that I would actually love it if he came in. It's on the tip of my tongue but I refrain, I don't want to come off needy. "Probably up to no good." I say amused, knowing that's a hundred percent accurate.
He chuckles, "Yeah, ain't that the truth."
We reach Vic's car and separate to our perspective sides then head back when we get to an area closer to the pub, he pulls over. "You ready turbo?"
"Oh yeah!"
The short drive turned into thirty minutes, I stalled twice and a few people even passed us. Rude much? But the laughter that came from Vic was worth the embarrassment. I manage to park next to my car with ease and pull up the e-break.
"Good job, I'm gonna have to give you a different nickname. I don't think turbo's going to cut it." He laughs.
"Hardy har har." I cross my eyes and stick my tongue out at him. "I need to go get ready." I move to get out and Vic quickly grabs my wrist, pausing my movements.
"Thank you." It comes out low and vulnerable which breaks my heart. I hurt for him. I lean over the console and place a kiss on the side of his head. I pat his hand that's still circling my wrist.
"Anytime Stud."
A few hours later I have my phone connected to the bar's speaker system while I take stock of our alcohol in our back room. It's not as loud as it would normally be when we're open for service. I'm expecting Ray, our food delivery guy, to drop off an order today. My body automatically sways to the hit currently playing while I write numbers down. It's something I oddly find comforting to do.
It's a few songs later when I hear the loud slap of the door out front-signaling someone's arrival. The door is heavy and on any normal night you can't hear it over the music and rowdy customers unless you're close to it when it closes.
"Hello?" A feminine voice calls out, definitely not Ray or anyone I'm expecting.
"We're closed!" I shout out and move out of the stock room continuing my writing, "We don't open for food service until four." I glance up from my clipboard and immediately stop. Melissa stands a few feet away from the door, clutching her purse. Like somehow being here is below her, though she was just here a few days ago. I huff out a breath and place my clipboard next to the register. Here we go. "What can I do for you Melissa?"
She moves closer to a stool and surprisingly takes a seat. Okay, this must be good. I lean my hip against the bar and cross my arms over my chest, preparing for...I'm not quite sure what.
"I've come here to talk, woman to woman."
I can feel my lip twitch, itching to smirk, but I remain stoic. "Alright."
"As you know, I'm trying to work things out with Victor. We've spoken and he's agreed, we're perfect together." I snort which causes her to pause and her eyes narrow, I wave my hand for her to continue her little bullshit spiel. I'm dying to hear what else she has to say. "So the right thing for you to do is step aside. We both know you're a fling. After that embarrassing display earlier, it brought him to his senses. He's a good man, he doesn't want to hurt you."
"Hence why you're clearly here?"
Her hand goes to her chest in some kind of display of caring. "Yes, I'm sorry. He's truly sorry."
I scoff at her audacity. It's human nature to have doubts, there was a sliver of it when she mentioned speaking to him. He seemed vulnerable when we parted earlier, who knows, maybe she caught him at the perfectly bad moment and he actually did agree with her. But I'm pretty confident that he hates her just as much as I do. "You are so full of shit."
"Excuse me?" her head snaps back in shock, her eyes wide and alarmed.
"You're trying to tell me that in a matter of a few hours after I left Victor thoroughly worn out, he's come to his senses?" I decide to add that little jab in and it clearly hit it's mark by the way her face is starting to resemble a tomato.
"A-" she stutters and clears her throat seemingly pulling herself together, like a proper fucking bitch.
"Right." I drawl the word out, moving forward to stand up straight, I approach her but still keep a distance away. "I'm gonna be blunt..." cause when am I not? "And just so you're aware, Vic is happy. That's because of me." I point at my chest, "You..." I point at her, "have become a nuisance, so really, it's you that needs to step aside because I'm his end game."
Oh shit. My words have startled her and myself though I'm doing a better job of concealing it. She abruptly stands knocking the stool backwards, "You're delusional." she hisses out. "And I'd watch your back!"
My head cocks back at her words, my hands moving to rest on my hip. I know this chick did not just threaten me. "Is that a threat?"
With a small smirk she moves to the door, pausing just in front of it, looking over her shoulder at me, "No it's a promise." Then she just waltz out of the bar like she found a fucking golden ticket.
What the actual fuck just happened? This lady just proved she's nuts. I don't know if I should take her seriously or laugh. I'm in shock and a laugh just bubbles out involuntarily.
What a damn day. I've also managed to insinuate much more than what Vic and I really are to each other. The scary part of that situation is how much I meant those words.
Oh snap.
Any predictions? What do you think is going to happen?
I've had quite a break through in my story for Victor and Jade. We'll see if it plays out like I intend. I'm hoping to get a lot written tonight, whether it gets posted tonight or at another time, I don't know yet but I hope you enjoyed this chapter. I'd love to hear from you. Please keep in mind this is a rough draft, and it's rough. I know this.
I don't know if this story will remain on Wattpad when I am finished, it's going to undergo a massive overhaul when it's finished. I want to say we're about half way into their story.
Give me all your thoughts. Don't forget to vote, please!
