The text from Jade is alarming, I just got out of the shower when it came through. Tossing on some sweats, I push the little phone at the top of the phone. She answers after one ring.

"Oh my gosh, Vic! Hold on let me get somewhere quiet!" she tells me and I hear her tell Mike she'll be right back.

"Jade is everything okay?" I yell taking a seat on my bed. Marlin jumps up and nudges my arm. The old guy has been more social. I rub his fur. The background noise of the bar seems to have dissipated and Jade finally answers, "Yes, No, I don't know. Shit."

"What happened? What's going on?" I'm not sure if I should worry, be scared, or what to feel. "Do you need to come to the bar?"

"Shit. Vic, okay, I'm sorry. She was here and I wanted to punch her so bad but I don't want to go to jail. Gosh, she deserves a fucking punch to the throat." She rambles on.

"Wait, what, who?"

"Fuck. Melissa was here."

"What the fuck?"

"She was looking for you and I said stuff to piss her off. It felt so good though but I'm sorry, I may have made things worse for you."

"Okay. You alright though?"

"Yes, I'm fine."

"Okay from the top, tell me what happened?"

After her account of what happened, I was actually really turned on, I had to adjust myself.

"Are you mad?" I burst out laughing at her question. "Mad? No way, that was amazing. I'm sure she's going to be really pissed but fuck her." Her sigh is loud over the line, "You really thought I'd be mad?"

"Yes! I know she's giving you a hard time and woman are catty, I mean hello, look at what just went down. She could make this worse for you."

"Jade, she really can't make things any worse. The divorce papers are filed, they'll eventually be put through legally without her signature. I have a beautiful place, great family, and I have you. Things are gonna be fine. Don't worry."

"Okay. Well if you need me, I will punch her for you."

A chuckle escapes my lips, "Alright. I wouldn't deny you the pleasure."

"Damn right. Okay. I gotta get back in there. If you're not busy, stop in."

"I'll see what my brothers are up to."

She whoops her approval, "Okay bbyyeee."

I hadn't planned to go anywhere but fuck it. I don't want to be home in case Melissa does happen to find out where I live and I doubt she'll be going back to Slider's. I change into some jeans, throw on a shirt and text my brothers to meet me if they want. I hadn't seen them since they helped me move.

Vance pulls in at the same as me, "Brother!" he greets me with a slap on the back. We walk in and head right to the bar, it's pretty crowded, music is playing loudly and tons of frat boys scattered about. We snag two stools as they open and it isn't until that moment I see Jade. "Fuckkk." Vance hisses beside me, and I glance over at him. "Dude." I narrow my eyes, "Don't even."

"If you don't, I will."

"She don't want you." I retort.

"I know." He places his hand on my shoulder and squeezes.

"Well if it isn't my favorite men." Jade stands before us looking fucking delectable. I take her all in, my eyes roaming every inch of golden, tattooed, smooth skin.

"My favorite bartender!" Vance shouts, making Jade smile wide. "I'm so glad you guys came!" She proceeds to place two coasters in front of us, then filling up to mugs of beer on tap. "This is on me. Consider it my apology."

"Apology?" Vance asks.

"Don't ask. Just enjoy." Jade waves her hands at the mugs. Vance grabs his and takes a drink. A shout down the bar pulls Jade away and Vance doesn't waste any time.

"Dude, what the fuck is going on?"

I laugh, grab my own mug and take a swig. "Nothing."

"This whole thing does not seem like nothing man."

I sigh. "I like her a lot."

"Well fuck, what the hell is holding you back man? Jade is fuckin' hot." Vance cuts me off.

"Yeah, and that's the thing, I like her too much to lose her." I go on to explain to him what happened with Melissa tonight.

"Well damn." Vance takes another pull of his drink. I nod in agreement.

"I have no idea what the future hold for me right now. I need to get Melissa out of my life once and for all. I'm not sure if I'm ready for a relationship, and that's not fair to Jade."

"What's not fair to me..." Jade leans across the bar.

"The bullshit Melissa pulled tonight." Vance cuts in, saving me. Jade covers her face in embarrassment and groans. "Hey!" Vance gets Jades attention, "That rocked. I wish I could have been here." Jade visibly relaxes.

"It was such a bitchy thing to say but it felt so good. She doesn't deserve Victor, never did." She eyes me with a smile, that hit me straight in the heart. Jade is pulled away by another customer and Vance taps me with his hand. His eyebrow cocked and a shit eating grin on his face.

"You better get your shit together fast because that girl is made for you," He puts his mug on the bar and stands up, "just like that girl over there is made for me, at least for tonight." He pats me on the back, "See ya later bro." I watch him approach a very pretty blonde. Well that didn't take long.

I hang out by myself, contemplating my next move in life. Deciding to agree to meet Melissa to end this shit is next on my list, I pull out my phone and send her a text; Don't bother calling. Let me know where and when, I'll be there.

"Vance left you already?" Jade returns and places another fresh beer in front of me. I lay my phone next to the mug. I sigh, "Yeah." She glances at Vance then places her elbows on the bar top, resting her chin upon her hands. "You think he'll ever settle down?"

I scoff, "No." she looks at me, "You did."

"True and look at how that turned out. I'm not a great example, if anything it probably ensured his decision to never settle down."

"Hey now—" the vibration of my phone cuts her off and she glances down, her eyes bugging out. Her response confirming that it's Melissa. I open the message not caring that Jade is most likely reading it.

The Pub on Main St. 1pm.

I sit back with a sigh.
