Or so I thought it was the best sleep I've ever gotten. Unfortunately, nothing is ever perfect in this cruel world.
I jolted awake when the door swung open, hitting the wall with a loud bang. Autumn and I quickly sat up in the bed, startled. A person stood at the door, huffing and puffing. "We need to go to the hospital, now," Theo said, panic laced in his voice.
"What?" Autumn mumbled, rubbing her tired eyes as she released a yawn.
"Something happened to Malia. We've got to go!" Theo yelled before rushing out of the room. Autumn and I stared at each other with wide eyes for a couple of seconds. Next thing I knew, we were jumping out of bed, throwing on clothes, and following Theo to the car. Anthony wasn't with us, so I assumed he was already there.
The car sped down the road to the hospital, taking no longer than five minutes. We jumped out of the car and ran inside to Malia's room.
Policemen scattered the hallway and there was yellow tape blocking the door. Yells and angry cries echoed through out the hall as Anthony shouted at some of them as well as some nurses and doctors. "How could you let this fucking happen!" he shouted, his wolf surfacing.
"What happened?" Autumn asked as we got closer. Theo's face paled and I had a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach.
I pushed past some officers and stepped over the tape. My jaw clenched at what I saw. I could hear Autumn gasp when she followed after me. Autumn covered her mouth with her hand and released a sob.
Blood coated the floor and bed and the sheets were ripped up. Malia's body laid lifelessly on the drenched bed, barely recognizable. Glass crunched under my shoes as I moved closer.
The curtains by the window, painted with blood, blew in the breeze. The glass from the window was scattered on the bed and the floor, some of the pieces stuck to Malia's skin. Her dark hair was also soaked and sprawled across the red pillow.
"Jax," Autumn choked out. I turned to face Autumn, who looked sick. Her wide eyes were focused on something else and her body trembled with fear. My eyes searched for what she was looking at and I felt my heart stop when my eyes landed on what she was pointing at.
Autumn.
Her name was spelled out on the wall in blood.
"W-Why is my name up there," she stammered, her voice trembling.
My eyes stared up at the bloodied lettering. It felt as if my heart had gave up on me as I just stood frozen, not moving, not breathing, not blinking. I'm not going to be able to protect her. There's no way in hell I can. This man is extremely dangerous and he's not going to stop until he gets what he wants.
'We need to leave,' I said to Theo. I grabbed Autumn's hand and tugged her out of the room as fast as I could. We need to get back to my pack, because there's no way we can hide from him. He'll find us either way. She'd be more protected at my pack than anywhere else.
Anthony was still screaming at the nurses, "You were suppose to be taking care of her!"
"Alpha-"
"We have to leave," Theo informed him, cutting the nurse off. Anthony spun around, his glossy eyes blazing with fury and sorrow. Then his eyes wandered over to Autumn. He slowly nodded his head, blinking back tears.
His eyes were bloodshot red and his hair stuck up it different directions. I felt my heart clench. I couldn't fathom what that must feel like. Losing your mate. They say that losing a mate makes you weak and can, at times, even kill you.
His eyes stared at me and he looked broken. There was so much I wanted to say to him, but I couldn't. All I could do was stared back at him with sadness. I didn't know what else to do.
I gave him one last look before turning around and tugging Autumn down the hallway. Once we got to the car, I sped back to Anthony's house to grab our stuff and then we left back towards home.
It was early in the morning, so the sky was still dark and the moon was shining down brightly. Theo fell back asleep, his head resting against the window. Autumn, on the other hand, was wide awake. She silently stared out the window and her hands fiddled with the bottom hem of her shirt.
I moved my right hand so that it was on top of her's. Our fingers entwined and a small smile made its way onto my mate's beautiful lips. I gaze into her eyes, silently promising her that I'll keep her safe no matter what.

The sun was barely peeking over the horizon when I finally returned home. I tossed my empty water bottle at Theo's head to wake him up. Soon Autumn drifted asleep during the ride and was now knocked out.
Theo woke up and mumbled some incoherent words as he smacked his lips. "Hmm...huh...what did I miss?" he mumbled as he yawned and stretched.
'We're home,' I replied as I turned the car off and unbuckled myself. I climbed out of the car and went around to the passenger side. After unbuckling Autumn's seatbelt, I slid one arm under her legs and the other around her waist, picking her up. In response, she snuggled into my chest.
Theo grabbed our bags and we both entered the house. Theo followed me up the stairs and left our bags in my room before he left to go to his house.
I carried Autumn over to the bed and gently laid her down on the sheets. I pulled her shoes off her feet and took mine off as well along with my shirt. Then I slid under the covers as well and wrapped my arms around her waist, pulling her closer.
My eyes drifted closed and I began to think about things that could possibly happen to happen to Autumn.
Let's just say that my dreams weren't as positive as earlier.
â¢â¢â¢
'I've decided that I would like to introduce Autumn to the pack and make her Luna tonight,' I told Theo as I leaned back in my chair.
Theo, who was drinking a cup of coffee, started choking. I rose an eyebrow as he tried to calm himself down. "W-What?" He asked, his voice a little raspy.
'The ceremony for her to become Luna. I want to have it tonight,' I replied. Theo flashed me a large smile as he quickly sat up in his chair.
"It's about damn time!" Theo exclaimed as he placed his cup of coffee on the counter. "What made you decide to do it tonight?"
I shrugged, swirling my spoon around in my tea. It has been on my mind but I haven't really been thinking too much about it especially with all of the shit that has been happening recently. But having Autumn in my arms last night, it was perfect and I wanted her to be a part of my till the day I die. And I want her to know it too.
Now I'm not sure if we're going to go as far as mating tonight, that's up to her, but I do want her to become our Luna. My Luna.
"Do you want me to start making the preparations?" Theo asked as he pulled his phone out and got up from his seat. I nodded my head. Theo's typed on his phone before he brought it up to his ear and spoke into it as he left the room.
A few minutes later Autumn poked her head in the room, "Morning!" I smiled at her and motioned for her to come. She sat crossed-legged on the chair in front of my desk with a large smile. Some of the auburn strands that had fallen from the bun on her head framed the sides of her cheeks and she was wearing a loose, white tank top and some jean shorts. She slouched as her eyes drank me.
I smirked at her and when she noticed that I caught her staring, she shrugged, "What? Can't I appreciate what I have?"
I chuckled and pulled out my phone, deciding that I should probably tell her about the ceremony. So I typed down what I wanted to say to her and I handed her my phone with shaking hands.
"You seem nervous," Autumn stated this a raised eyebrow. Then she looked down at the screen of my phone and her eyes scanned over the words. I watched as her eyes widened and then a smile broke out on her face.
She quickly got off her chair and went around my desk. She lunged herself at me, knocking my chair over, and making us fall to the floor with a loud thud. She fell on my chest as my back hit the floor, but I didn't care. I wrapped my arms around her waist as she buried her face into my neck.
"I'm sorry," she giggled, but didn't make a move to get off of me. Instead, she moved so that she was sitting on top of me, straddling me. "Well this is an odd position," she smirked.
Her lower area was touching a very sensitive spot and she seemed to notice as she looked down. She released a loud laugh and my cheeks heated up. "Someone's excited." Yeah, and whose fault is that? I wanted to say.
She shifted her body which only made it worse and I released a strangled groan. I gripped her hips to make her stop wiggling. I quickly switched our positions so that he back was pressed against the carpet. Now it was my turn to smirk as I pinned her wrists above her head with one hand and I used my other hand to keep myself up.
My body trapped her against the floor and there was no escaping. I smirked down at her and her face flushed. Now she was the one feeling vulnerable. I leaned my head down and pressed a light kiss on her jaw. Then I brushed my nose down her neck and over her collarbone.
I could feel her body shivering and it made me smile. I pulled away from her and got off of her. I reached out and grabbed her hand, helping her up.
"So," she breathed out once she composed herself, "When's the ceremony?"
I looked at my watch and pointed at the 7. She nodded, "I need to get a dress," she told me with a frown, "I don't really have anything that is appropriate for this occasion."
â¢â¢â¢
We decided that the location of the ceremony will be by the beach because the weather was really nice and it wasn't windy like it usually is. Plus, everyone in my pack loves the beach and Autumn has never been to the beach, so it'll be a new experience for her.
I was with Theo and a ton of other pack members decorating the beach. Autumn was with Mysha at the mall, looking for a dress for the ceremony. We strung lights everywhere and we're holding the ceremony at the stage located by the water. Then afterwards people can go for a swim afterwards if they wanted.
Chairs were lined up in front of the stage in the sand. No one would be wearing shoes so it didn't really matter if it was sandy.
I watched from the stage as my pack members bustled around in excitement as they helped decorate and organize the whole event. It made me smile when I saw how happy they were. They were finally getting a Luna.
Not many of them have met Autumn, so today they will get the opportunity to see and talk to her. And I wasn't at all nervous for them to meet her. I am 100% positive they will love her because she is absolutely breathtaking, smart, funny, and kind.
"The ceremony started in an hour. You better go get ready," Theo informed me as he shoved me in the direction of the house.
