Chapter 685
Substitute Marriage: Falling For My Ugly Wife
Feeling his warm chest through the fabric, Millieâs heart raced. She withdrew her hand quickly and left,
the pace of her heartbeat only now beginning to slow.
His playful mood reassured her that he had indeed recovered.
Bruce had remained downstairs in the shadows, unwilling to leave. As he waited, he observed Marcus
striding into the building and Celeste storming out in anger.
Earlier, when he had been downstairs, Bruceâs concen for Millie had been overwhelming. The fear that
Celeste might create problems for her kept him rooted to the spot.
Finally emerging from the darkness, Bruce looked up at the room where Millie was, his mind a whirlpool
of thought.
He flexed his hands, the sensation of holding Millieâs soft waist still fresh in his memory.
Elsewhere, Fiona located Giovanni in a rush, her voice dripping with scorn. âThe men you sent were
absolutely useless! They were driven away by Millie,â she snapped.
Giovanni scratched his head, attempting to defend himself. âItâs not their fault. That woman is Marcusâ
wife. We canât afford to cross her.â
Fionaâs disdainful snort cut him off. âIs that what terrifies you? How pathetic.â
Her frustration boiled over as her plans to oust Millie were thwarted.
âYou could always move into the manâs villa. That way, you wouldnât have to worry about her exposing
you,â Giovanni suggested.
âDo you think I havenât tried that? Every time I bring it up, he goes silent.â
Fiona was distressed. Her heart ached with the realization that Leonâs reluctance to live with her
signaled his ongoing suspicion.
Gazing down at her expensive, ornate attire, she yearned for this lavish lifestyle to continue indefinitely.
Giovanniâs eyes were drawn to the gleaming ring on Fionaâs finger, a testament to the wealth of the
man who had showered her with luxury.
The hungry look in Giovanniâs eyes made Fiona uneasy.
âWhat are you staring at?â she grunted.
âIâm short on cash,â Giovanni replied, his eyes fixed on the ring. âThat ring must be worth a fortune.
Hand it over, and Iâll exchange it for money.â
Alarmed, Fiona covered the ring and hid it behind her. âNo! Heâll grow suspicious if he finds it missing.â
Even so, Giovanni was relentless. âGive it to me. Heâs given you so many things, he wonât remember
this one.â
With a sudden lunge, he seized the ring and darted away, intent on pawning it off for cash.
Fiona went after him. But after a few futile steps, she stopped, feeling defeated. She stared at her bare
finger, her rage simmering within her.
