Indian short stories
"Jab dil se nishana laga kar, kisi ka dil todte hain,
Samajhna yeh, yeh shaayad humne apni zindagi kho di hai.
Har ek chhoti si jeet, ek gehra dard chhupaye rakhti hai,
Aur har ek badla, pyaar ka asli rang apne saath laata hai.
Zakhmon ki gehraiyon se pyaar ki roshni nikalti hai,
Aur dard ki chaadar mein jo apne dil ko chhupaye rakhte hain,
Unhe hi sachcha pyaar samajh mein aata hai,
Jab tak dil ko dard na ho, pyaar ka ehsaas adhoora sa lagta hai.
After 6 months
Roohi entered Kabir's room without knocking, finding him focused on inspecting some new guns spread out on the table. He barely noticed her presence, his attention locked on the weapons.
"Do you mind if I apply nail polish on your nails?" Roohi asked.
Kabir glanced at her briefly, raising an eyebrow. "Why? Can't you apply it on your own nails?"
She smiled mischievously. "It's a new one, and I wanted to test it out. I thought your nails would be good."
Without waiting for his approval, Roohi grabbed his left hand. Kabir sighed but didn't resist, letting her take his hand as he returned to his work, examining a sleek black gun with his free hand.
As Roohi carefully applied the nail polish, a soft blush spread across her cheeks. She thought to herself, Why doesn't he say anything to me? Maybe it's because he can't. Or maybe it's because he won't. He has a soft corner for me I know he does. It's that soft corner that made me fall for him.
"This color looks good on your nails," she said, tilting her head to admire the contrast.
Kabir gave her a sarcastic smile. "Are you're done with your experiment, or do you want me to do anything else? Or should I prepare myself for a full makeover?"
Roohi chuckled but then paused. Her heart raced as a bold idea struck her. She set the nail polish bottle aside and looked straight into his eyes.
"Marry me," she said abruptly.
Kabir froze, caught off guard by her words. He stared at her for a moment before shaking his head. "What did you just say?"
"Marry me kabir" Roohi replied.
His brows furrowed, trying to read her expression. "You've lost your mind. Go get some sleep".
But Roohi wasn't backing down. She stepped closer, grabbing his shirt collar. "I said, marry me, Kabir. I love you."
Kabir's gaze softened for a second, but he quickly masked it with his usual stern demeanor. "Roohi, stop joking around. You don't know what you're saying."
"I'm not joking," she insisted. "I know exactly what I'm saying. I've known for a while now, and I'm tired of hiding it. I love you, Kabir, and I know you feel something for me too. So why not just say yes?"
Kabir let out a heavy sigh, closing his eyes briefly as if to gather his thoughts.
Roohi stepped back, crossing her arms. "You can keep pretending all you want, Kabir. But one day, you'll have to stop running from what's right in front of you. And when you do, I'll be waiting."
"I won't marry you," Kabir said firmly.
Roohi stared at him. "What do you think of yourself, Kabir? You're the one who has been fucking me all these days, treating me like I'm yours. Do you think I'm some whore for you to use whenever you feel like it?" Her voice cracked, but she didn't stop. "I know you love me, Kabir. Just admit it!"
Kabir clenched his jaw, trying to control his emotions. Then, with a sharp move, he pushed her back gently but firmly. "You're out of your mind," he said, his voice rising. "You came to me, asking for my help to kill Siddarth. I'm helping you with that. But marriage? That's not happening. I can't do that."
"Why not?" Roohi shot back, her voice trembling but defiant. "You can have me in your bed, but you can't give me your name? That's what you think of me?"
"It's not that simple!" Kabir shouted, stepping away as if trying to create distance from the conversation. "You don't get it, Roohi. I don't want you trapped in this life, the mafia life for the rest of your days. I don't want you living like this, like me."
Roohi's eyes burned with tears, but she refused to back down. "You think I don't know what I'm getting into? I chose this, Kabir. I chose you. I don't care about the rest of it. I love you, damn it!"
Kabir shook his head, his voice dropping. "And that's why I can't marry you. Because I love you too much to let you destroy yourself for me." He turned his back to her, his shoulders tense, refusing to let her see the pain in his eyes.
Roohi stepped forward, her hand trembling as she reached for him. "Kabir..." she whispered, her voice breaking.
But Kabir didn't turn around. "Go, Roohi," he said, his voice cold and distant now. "Get out of here. This conversation is over."
Kabir had known for a long time that he was in love with Roohi. It wasn't something he had admitted to himself right away, and for a long time, he ignored it. They had spent so much time together, training and planning, that it was impossible not to feel something for her. She had become such a big part of his life. He had always admired her strength, her determination, and how she managed to stay calm in tough situations. But Kabir kept telling himself that it wasn't the right time to focus on love. They were on a mission, and that was his priority.
Today, everything changed.
Roohi left the room angrily, slamming the door behind her. A few moments later, she came back. Her face was a mix of frustration and heartbreak, and her voice shook with emotion.
"You want me to leave, don't you? Fine, I'll go," she said, placing the bag down in front of him. "I thought you loved me. I really believed that. I thought you were the only person I had left in this world, but I was wrong. You're pushing me away, just like everyone else. So let's end this deal right here, right now."
Kabir leaned back against the wall, his face unreadable. For a moment, he didn't say anything, just stared at her. Then, without warning, he picked up his gun from the table and pointed it at her.
"You loved me?" he said coldly. "Do you really think I didn't know what you were doing? That you were looking for me all this time?"
His words made her pause, but she quickly composed herself, standing her ground.
"What are you talking about?" she asked.
He stepped closer, the gun still aimed at her. "You knew me before the night I saved you, didn't you? Admit it. You knew exactly who I was, even then."
Roohi glared at him, anger rising in her chest. She wasn't going to let him intimidate her anymore. Reaching into her pocket, she pulled out a gun of her own and aimed it at him.
"Fine. Yes, I knew you," she said firmly. "I've been tracking you ever since Siddarth killed my family. I know he's your enemy, and I thought you could help me find him. That's why I followed you, why I used you. The night you found me on the road? I planned that. I knew you'd take that route, so I sat there, hoping you'd stop. And guess what? My plan worked."
Kabir's expression hardened, and his grip on the gun tightened. His jaw clenched as he stepped even closer.
"Should I pull the trigger right now, Roohi?" he said through gritted teeth.
"Go ahead," she replied, her voice steady, her finger hovering over her own trigger. "Pull it. Let's see what happens."
For a moment, it felt like the world had stopped. The two of them stood inches apart, guns pointed at each other, their breathing heavy. Then, in one swift motion, Kabir grabbed her wrist and yanked her toward him.
With one hand still holding her, he raised his gun and fired not at her, but at the camera in the corner of the room. The loud bang echoed, and the shattered lens of the camera fell to the floor. Before Roohi could react, Kabir dropped his gun and crashed his lips onto hers.
The kiss was rough and desperate, full of anger and passion, as if he was trying to pour all his emotions into it. When he finally pulled back, his voice was quieter, but no less intense.
"Now I admit it, I'm in love with you," he said, his eyes locked on hers.
Roohi's breath hitched, her gun still in her hand, but for the first time, she didn't know what to say. The line between love and hate had never felt thinner.

For the past year, Kabir and Roohi had been focused on one thing: tracking down Siddarth. Every day was spent gathering information, observing his movements, and preparing for the right moment to strike. Kabir had taken it upon himself to train Roohi, turning her into someone who could handle anything. She had learned how to use guns, how to escape from dangerous situations, and even how to drive during high-speed chases. It wasn't easy, but she had become stronger and more skilled than she ever thought possible.
The mission had taken over their lives, and every decision they made was part of a larger plan to bring Siddarth down. Roohi had changed a lot over the year. What once seemed like an impossible task now felt like something she was fully prepared for.
Kabir had been strict but supportive in his training, pushing Roohi to her limits. He knew that Siddarth was dangerous, and they couldn't afford to make any mistakes. While Roohi sometimes had doubts, Kabir reminded her that they were doing this for justice, not revenge. Siddarth had hurt too many people, and it was up to them to stop him.
As the year went on, the pressure only grew. They knew Siddarth's patterns, where he would be, and how to catch him off guard. The final plan was set, and everything was ready. The only thing left was to carry it out. Roohi checked over everything one last time, making sure she was prepared. Kabir did the same, double-checking every detail.
But there was more to their journey than just the mission. Kabir had promised Roohi something important something that kept her going through all the tough times. He promised that once they took down Siddarth, he would marry her.
As they neared the final part of their plan, Kabir started preparing for their wedding. Even though they were in the middle of a mission, Kabir knew how important it was for Roohi to have the wedding she deserved. So, he made sure everything was ready. He bought the wedding dresses, accessories, and everything else they would need. Roohi didn't expect it, but it was something that made her feel both loved and hopeful.
The wedding was planned for just a week from now. It felt like a dream, something that kept Roohi going. She couldn't wait to marry Kabir, but she also knew that they had one final step to complete before they could truly start their life together. They had to take down Siddarth, and it wasn't going to be easy. The pressure was there, and every decision they made in the coming days was crucial.
Even with the wedding preparations in the background, Roohi knew that the mission had to come first. They couldn't afford to slip up now. They had worked too hard, trained too long. They couldn't let anything get in the way of their goal.
â
It is the day of the wedding, and Roohi was in her room getting ready. She was dressed in her bridal attire a beautiful red lehenga with jewelry. Today was the day she would marry Kabir, the man she loved.
Kabir had told her he was going out to get a surprise gift for her. Roohi smiled as she thought about it, curious to know what he had planned. She was happy and eager to see him again, but for now, she was focused on getting ready.
Roohi was sitting on the bed, adjusting her jewelry when her phone suddenly rang. She looked at the screen and saw it was an unknown number. She wasn't expecting any calls, but she answered anyway.
"Hello?" she said.
But the voice on the other end of the line wasn't someone she recognized. It was a cold, serious tone that made her heart skip a beat.
"If you want to see Kabir alive, come to the location I've sent you," the voice said, before abruptly hanging up.
Roohi stood frozen for a second, her phone still in her hand. Her heart was pounding as she tried to make sense of what had just happened. She knew who it was the voice belonged to Siddarth Khanna.
