EP7 - A Coincidence

Abhimanyu was extremely tired after a 12-hour long open heart surgery. He had almost spent the entire night in the operation theatre. He massaged his neck and shoulders to get rid of the pain while walking towards his cabin.

As he pressed the elevator button, a melodious voice rang in his ears. He unconsciously closed his eyes, mesmerized by the feel of the song.

Ek pyar ka nagma hai

Maujon ki rawani hai

Zindagi aur kuchh bhi nahi

Teri meri kahani hai

Abhimanyu turned around and walked towards the source of the song. Whoever she was, her voice had the purity and depth, pulling him towards her.

Kuchh pa kar khona hai

Kuchh kho kar pana hai

Jeevan ka matlab to

Aana aur jaana hai

He quickened the pace of his steps, pushing everyone out of the way, to reach her as soon as possible. He looked like a madman running in the corridors of the hospital.

When Abhimanyu finally found the cabin, where the sound was coming from, he stood at the door for a few seconds, just listening to the song she played. Without further delay, he opened the door just to see the sight, he will never forget in his life.

There she was, sitting on the chair, with a guitar in her hands, singing as if she was in her world with a calm smile on her face. The patients around her had closed their eyes, feeling the warmth her song was giving. And Abhimanyu couldn't blink, staring at her like he was hypnotized.

Akshara slowly opened her eyes as she finished her song. Abhimanyu took a deep breath, completely enthralled by her big doe eyes. She smiled at the patients, and Abhimanyu felt his heartbeat quicken like he had just run a marathon.

"That's our session for today, hope you all had a good time. We'll meet tomorrow at the same time. " She said and all the patients bid her bye.

When everyone had left, she felt a burning gaze on her. Akshara turned her around to find Abhimanyu, leaning against the door, looking deeply at her. She smiled at him and ran towards where he was standing.

"Abhi! How are you? I heard you had a big surgery today." She asked and he came back to his senses. He coughed lightly, realizing what he has been doing.

"Hmm... it went well. We saved the patient." Abhimanyu answered and she grinned widely, patting his shoulder, in praise.

"Well done! Dr. Abhimanyu Birla. I'm so proud of you!"

Abhimanyu felt shivers run down his spine when she touched him. It was like a jolt of electricity, he had never felt before. He shook his head in confusion before turning her attention to her.

"You sound like a mother who's proud of her son" Abhimanyu sarcastically replied making her chuckle.

"There's an old saying that a good friend is like a mother, Abhi." She said making him roll his eyes.

"I've never heard of such a stupid saying. Whoever said that?" He asked, making her eyes shine brightly.

"Me! The cutest, the most beautiful and extremely talented- The Akshara Goenka." She exaggerated and he knocked her head lightly, to bring her back to the earth.

"Stop being so narcissistic, Akshu!" She pouted, covering the spot on her head where he hit.

"Chidkuram!" Akshara muttered. He squinted his eyes at her, making her bite her tongue.

Abhimanyu was about to reply to her when the voice of Neil came from his behind.

"Bhai! Here you are. I was searching for you all around- Akshara?" Neil came to a halt seeing his friend, at the hospital. Even Akshara looked at him surprised.

"Neil? What are you doing here?" She came forward to give him a friendly hug.

Abhimanyu felt a sudden, unknown wave of emotion wash over him. He didn't like it one bit, seeing her getting close to another man. He wanted to bury Neil 5 feet down the earth, for touching Akshara.

"I work here Akshara, I'm an intern," Neil replied, leaving the hug.

"Oh! What a coincidence! I work here as well." Akshara grinned. Neil was as excited as her and was about to reply to her when another voice cut in between.

"Neil, you know Akshara?" Abhimanyu asked, making both of them look at him.

"Yeah, Bhai! I told you that I made a new friend. She's the one, my new best friend, Akshara." Neil grinned, placing his arm around Akshara's shoulder. Akshara smiled at him as well.

Abhimanyu's burning gaze went to Neil's hand. He wished to remove that hand and break it into pieces.

"Wait...You know Akshara as well? How?" Neil asked and Akshara was about to reply when Abhimanyu beat her to it.

"Yeah, I told you I made a new friend. She's the one, my new best friend, Akshara." Abhimanyu said, repeating the words of Neil.

Neil gasped, removing his arm from Akshara, looking at both of them in wonder. Akshara grinned at his expressions, but then she remembered something and turned her head towards Abhimanyu.

"Abhi, you know Neil?" She asked and Abhimanyu nodded.

"Yes, he's my annoying little brother." He said, making her eyes widen. She looked at Neil in surprise.

"You are a Birla?"
