Chapter 62 - 63: I’ll Think of a Way
Reborn As Divine Doctor to Rule the World
Chu Yu roared angrily, âGuard your words! Do you think finding a few men to rely on can protect you? What a cheap slut!â
With that, he raised his right hand and swung fiercely towards Shao He.
Shao He was hardly going to stand there and be hit; as she braced herself for a fight, Chu Yuâs wrist was struck by a stone.
Chu Yu, wincing in pain, lowered his hand, and Shao He took the opportunity to slip out of his grasp, looking up at the person approaching in a wheelchair.@@novelbin@@
âThe Marquis is quite imposing, to openly bully a weak woman in broad daylight. If word of this gets out, others might think the Marquis is persecuting a commoner girl. I wonder what kind of punishment the Marquis would receive if The Emperor were to blame you for this.â
Chu Yuâs face changed as he squinted at the newcomer.
Pei Huaian, dressed in a black robe, exuded an extraordinary presence. Even seated in a wheelchair, his aura was unmatched.
Chu Yu looked at him and suddenly remembered this was the man who had been with Yan Ze that day, and Yan Ze seemed to respect him greatly.
Pei Huaian glanced at him, then turned to Shao He and asked with concern, âAre you alright?â
âWho are you?â Chu Yu asked doubtfully.
âWho I am is not important,â Pei Huaian replied sternly, piercing through Chu Yuâs façade. âWhatâs important is that the Marquis should be mindful of his status to avoid giving others leverage against him.â
Chu Yuâs expression fluctuated wildly, glaring hatefully yet with a hint of apprehension because of Pei Huaianâs apparent association with Yan Ze. He was, therefore, forced to swallow his anger.
âThe Marquis was merely inquiring about Doctor Shaoâs grandmotherâs illness and may have acted excessively out of concern for her condition,â Chu Yu offered as an explanation for why he had detained Shao He.
Pei Huaian did not expose him, merely nodding slightly. âI hope the Marquis will avoid rash actions in the future, so as not to ruin your promising future.â
Chu Yu left with a dark face and silent, but not before his cunning eyes glanced at the man in the wheelchair and made an excuse to leave.
After the man had gone far, Shao He dropped her pretense and looked at Pei Huaian with a frown. âYoung Master Pei, such a coincidence?â
âIt was nothing inconvenient,â Pei Huaian replied with a warm smile, looking down nonchalantly at the Jade Ring on his finger.
âWhy is it that Young Master Pei always happens to appear at such opportune moments? Could it be you have someone watching over me?â Shao He asked with a raised eyebrow.
Pei Huaian looked at her in surprise, shaking his head with a laugh, âDoctor Shao really has a way with jokes. I just happened to be passing by. If I truly had someone tailing you, how could you not have noticed?â
âIn that case, Young Master Pei truly is a remarkable man. Not only are you noble in character, but you also seem to be quite skilled at assisting others in distress,â Shao He said with feigned admiration.
Pei Huaian chuckled and asked, âWhere is Doctor Shao headed?â
âTo Anji Hall,â Shao He answered.
âIâll take you there. Itâs on my way, and it will prevent Chu Yu from showing up and troubling you unexpectedly.â
Shao He didnât refuse, nodding and saying, âThank you then.â
Considering Chu Yuâs unpredictable temper, having Pei Huaianâs protection did seem safer, so she didnât refuse.
Upon seeing him maneuvering the wheelchair by himself, Shao He walked behind him and started pushing the wheelchair forward slowly.
Pei Huaian was initially startled, then a hint of a smile appeared in his eyes.
Shao Heâs gaze fell on the hands grasping the wheelchair, well-defined and evenly proportioned; they were handsomely enviable.
Feeling her gaze, Pei Huaian turned his head to look at her, the corners of his mouth gradually curving into a wider smile.
Moments later, returning to her senses, Shao He met Pei Huaianâs eyes, then quickly lowered her gaze, asking, âWhere are Young Master Peiâs subordinates? Why are you alone?â
Pei Huaian looked away and replied softly, âSubordinates need to rest too!â
Ah Mo, left behind by Pei Huaian, couldnât stop sneezing and could only follow from afar as his master moved further away.
From time to time, Shao He stole glances at Pei Huaian, observing his cool gaze, sharp and cold, which was generally unapproachable, and she wondered what a person like him would look like.
Noticing the Jade Ring on his hand, Shao He abruptly thought of the Warm Jade on Xiao Linzhangâs neck and asked, âThat Warm Jade must be quite valuable. Where did you get it from? It must have cost a good amount of Silver?â
âItâs just a piece of Warm Jade. Xiao Linzhang and I were fated, so I gave it to him as a gift. You neednât worry about it,â Pei Huaian explained indifferently, as if the jade he gave away wasnât costly.
Upon hearing this, a surge of complex emotions welled up in Shao He, and she bowed her head in silence.
Pei Huaian glanced at her, noting the faint worry in her brow, and asked, âDid you come to the Jhiang Family for the childâs household registration issue?â
Shao He looked up in surprise, her lips pursing quietly before responding. âYes, I just didnât expect that Chu Yu would be a step ahead of me. He pressured the Jhiang Family, so Master Jhiang couldnât help much.â
âWhat do you plan to do now?â Pei Huaian asked with a raised eyebrow.
Shao He forced a smile, âIâll think of something else.â
Pei Huaian frowned slightly, turned to her, and said, âActually, I can help with the household registration matter.â
Not wanting to bother Pei Huaian further, and also concerned he might offend Chu Yu, Shao He declined gently, âNo need, Iâll think of other ways.â
Pei Huaian understood Shao Heâs concerns and knew she didnât want to trouble others, which is why she declined. He then took the opportunity to say, âI have a distant relative whose daughter has passed away. The household registration can be sorted out, and itâs not very troublesome.â
