Chapter 59 - 60: Delivered by Young Master Pei

Chu Yu glanced at her and, finding her words reasonable, had someone send the prescription to the Imperial Medical Bureau for examination.

Yan Ze stepped forward, with a smile, said, “Doctor Shao truly is formidable. Even Old Madame Chu from the Marquis Pingnan’s Mansion couldn’t gain an advantage over you.”

He was becoming more and more curious about this female doctor. Why was the Marquis Pingnan’s Mansion so insistent on keeping her? What kind of involvement was there?

Shao He, blowing on the teacup, responded methodically, “I intend to solve it myself.”

Hearing this, Yun Qian frowned slightly, “The issue of household registration is not as simple as you think. I believe you should ask Young Master Pei for help.”

At the mention of Pei Huaian’s name, Shao He’s brow furrowed tighter, “I’ve already troubled him too many times. I don’t want to ask for his help again.”

“But he can help you escape this predicament.”

After a moment of silence, Shao He lifted her head to look at him seriously, “I plan to seek help from Mr. Jhiang. He is, after all, the Minister of the Household. He should be able to help with this matter.”

“That could work, but I fear…” Yun Qian didn’t finish his sentence, not wanting to dash her hopes. He worried that things were often easier said than done.

Shao He seemed to understand his concerns and said with a light smile, “I plan to visit the Jhiang Family tomorrow. We’ll see if it can be done then.”

“Then I’ll accompany you,” he offered.

Seeing her determination, Yun Qian found it inappropriate to say more. He had intended to send her home in a carriage but she declined, not wanting to draw attention to herself.

On the way back, the night was pitch black. Shao He took a deep breath of the chilly air, felt the brisk wind, and glanced back before quickening her pace.

In a narrow alley, her figure disappeared from sight.

The person who had followed her stopped and turned their head, scanning the surroundings. “Where’s the person?”

“Looking for me?”

The sudden voice startled the searcher, and before they could react, Shao He was already in front of the man, with a dagger at his throat, her expression dark.

“Who are you, and why are you following me in the dead of night!”

The man didn’t speak, but his expression was evasive as he said, “I wasn’t following you, I just happened to be passing by.”

Shao He kicked him in the chest, sending him tumbling to the ground. She then tied him up and threw him into the corner of the alley, stuffing a piece of his tunic into his mouth and giving him a good beating.

“Mmm, mmm,” the man seemed to want to say something, but by this point, Shao He no longer wished to listen, only stopping when she grew tired.

“Go back and tell your master, if he dares send someone to follow me again, it won’t end with just a beating!”

After another kick, Shao He dusted off her clothes and left the alley.

Shao He returned to the small courtyard and, hearing the child’s cries, quickened her steps toward the room.

Qingxia was bustling about, trying to swaddle the child and soothe him continuously.

“Don’t cry, don’t cry, be good, little young master.”

Unfortunately, her words didn’t seem to have any effect. Xiao Linzhang continued to cry incessantly.

Shao He entered the room, took the child, unfolded the small blanket, and rewrapped him before lifting him up to gently lull him.

“Be good, Xiao Linzhang, don’t cry.”

“Sleep now, sleep now, my darling, my dear little one.”

Xiao Linzhang quieted down in Shao He’s arms, his eyelids slowly closed, and he suckled sweetly into sleep.

“The little young master is too attached to the miss. He won’t sleep until the miss comes back,” Qingxia said with a sigh.

No matter how they coaxed, the little young master never agreed to sleep early. He always had to wait for the miss to return.

“How has it been lately? Is Xiao Linzhang being obedient?” Shao He placed Xiao Linzhang on the bed, covered him with a thin blanket, and asked.

Qingxia answered truthfully that they had always been about fighting and killing, with no experience in child-rearing, they could only grope their way through it.

Shao He could tell from their conversation that there were oversights in childcare, but it was understandable since they had never cared for a child before and might naturally lack in thorough care.
