Chapter 38 - 39 Perhaps Desperate Times Call for Desperate Measures
Reborn As Divine Doctor to Rule the World
Inside Marquis Pingnanâs Mansion.
Old Madam Chu listened to the complaints of the two servants with a dark expression, remaining silent.
Knowing Old Madam Chuâs difficult temperament and her dislike for Luo Jiner, the two servants dared to speak ill of her in front of her.
âOld Madam, you arenât aware, but that Luo Jiner dashes out every day without a thought of treating her infertility and even monopolizes the Marquisâs time,â said one of the women, dressed in purple.
Another woman in pink clothes chimed in, âThatâs right, Old Madam, and the moment she returns, she demands the Marquis accompany her. As soon as the Marquis visits either of us, she immediately feels unwell and wonât rest until she has called the Marquis away.â
Old Madam Chu caught the key point and asked, âOut every day?â
âYes, she goes out early each morning and doesnât return until the evening.â
Lady Chu turned to the nanny beside her and asked, âAre you aware of this matter?â
The nanny respectfully answered, âThis servant knows a little. Itâs said that Luo Jiner has been visiting a pharmacy.â
Old Madam Chu scoffed, âEven the Imperial Physician is helpless; what could a small clinic possibly do to cure her?â
âPerhaps it is a case of clutching at straws,â the nanny replied with a smile.
Old Madam Chu turned to look at the two servants, eyeing their flashy attire, rotating her prayer beads as she spoke, âYou two make an effort. Whoever among you can give birth to a son, I will support her to become a concubine.â
Upon hearing Old Madamâs words, the two womenâs spirits were lifted. Being a concubine was different from a servant; a servant was at most somewhat more privileged than a maid, but a concubine was like a lady in the mansion.
The curtains parted, and a maid rushed in, bowing as she said, âOld Madam, the Marquis has arrived with Luo Jiner.â
Upon hearing this, Old Madam Chu quickly dismissed the two servant girls and took off her head ornaments, lying down on the soft couch. She then stuffed two medicine pills into her mouth, feigning the appearance of someone weak and frail.
When Chu Yu entered the room and saw the Old Madamâs condition, he frowned and asked with concern, âGrandmother, are you ill again?â
Old Madam Chu weakly opened her eyes, âIâm fine. Itâs just some old ailments. How is Jinerâs illness? What did the doctor say? Can it be cured?â
âWe have yet to find a doctor who can treat her condition. Iâm doing my best to search for one.â
Seeing her concern for Luo Jiner, Chu Yu couldnât help feeling guilty.
âOh,â Old Madam Chu nodded, a flash of light crossed the bottom of her eyes, then she said, âWhy donât you take my card and ask Imperial Doctor He, who has already retired at home, to take a look at her? Perhaps thereâs a slim chance.â
âGrandmother, your health is already like this; donât think about others. Just focus on recuperating,â Chu Yu said tenderly, looking at Old Madam Chu.
Continuing, he said, âGrandmother, youâve worked hard over the years and your body isnât what it used to be. If you were to fall ill, the Chu Family would be in disarray.â
Old Madam Chu looked at him, speaking earnestly, âAlthough Iâm old, Iâm not so senile yet. You donât have to worry about me; I know my own body.â
Chu Yu was still worried and wanted to stay to tend to Old Madam Chu, but she refused.
âI can still bear it. Your most important task now is to find a doctor who can cure Jiner,â she said, resisting.
Seeing his grandmother like this, yet still preoccupied with Jinerâs barrenness, Chu Yuâs guilt deepened.
Just then, Old Madam Chu suddenly began to cough violently. The nanny hurried over to help her up, but Old Madam Chu spat out a mouthful of fresh blood.
âGrandmother, call the doctor, quickly call the doctor!â Chu Yu strode over, attending to Old Madam Chu, gently patting her back.
Scolding the nanny who still stood by, he said, âWhat are you waiting for? Go and find a doctor to examine Grandmother immediately.â
âTo answer the Marquis, Old Madamâs condition has already been seen by the doctor. He said it is due to frustration and excessive worry and advised Old Madam not to overthink. He has prescribed several medications,â replied the nanny.
On hearing this, Luo Jiner couldnât help but inwardly ridicule the master-servant duoâs acting skills, thinking the old trickster even resorted to such tactics. Clearly, she aims to use the Marquisâs guilty conscience to accept the two servant girls!@@novelbin@@
Despite knowing the old womanâs deceit, Jiner still felt obligated to feign filial respect.
âIâm sorry, Old Madam, itâs Jinerâs fault, and Iâve caused you concern,â she said apologetically.
Old Madam Chu, looking at the teary figure, felt a wave of irritation and waved her hand, saying, âIâm not dead yet. Thereâs no need for tears. You can cry after Iâm gone.â
With these words, Luo Jiner was once again at a disadvantage, causing Chu Yuâs expression to shift slightly.
Luo Jiner inwardly sighed at the old ladyâs cunning!
âAlright, you all may leave. I want to rest properly,â said Old Madam Chu, her voice weak yet forceful.
