Chapter 540
Jojo and Coco’s Unexpected Love
Chapter 540 Preston Has Been Decelved
Finn Harris handed a signed check to Preston and asked, âJust a USB drive? Do you have other data
or results?â
Preston had planned to not give them everything from the get-go. He said, âIâll go to the bank to
withdraw the funds first. Iâll then give you the rest of the confidential files.â
Finn frowned, and he looked at Otto. The latter shrugged nonchalantly.
A mischievous grin adorned Ottoâs face as he said, âTake your time. Go ahead and verify it. After all, he
did not really care about it.
âAll right, thatâs settled then,â Preston expressed his satisfaction with the response. It was a far
cry from the usual disrespect he received from Joseph.
Otto took the USB drive, got into his car, and drove away.
Just as Preston was about to leave, a large group of journalists suddenly swarmed him, their cameras
flashing like countless stars and nearly blinding him. Before he could utter a curse, his wrist was
clamped by something icy cold. He looked down, and his eyes widened in disbelief.
âWho put handcuffs on me!â
âWeâre from the Docwood City Police Department,â said an officer sternly, holding the other end of the
handcuffs as he pushed his way through the crowd of reporters. âYouâre suspected of being involved in
a theft case, and weâre placing you under official arrest.â
âIâm not a thief! I didnât do anything! Iâll sue you for defamation!â
âMr. Joseph has already submitted the surveillance footage of you infiltrating the Whitmant Group.â
Preston was petrified, unable to comprehend how he had been discovered when he had not alerted
anyone. Trying to maintain his composure, he retorted, âThat is my company. Whatâs wrong with me
entering my own company?â
The police officer continued firmly, âYouâve been expelled from the Whitman Group for a week now, and
even if you werenât, itâd still be considered theft.â
Preston was at a loss for words.
Shortly after, several other officers arrived, dispersing the journalists and escorting Preston into a police
car.
Preston clutched the check in his hand and made a quick decision. In the middle of the chaos, he
discreetly placed the check under the table.
Shortly after, Jonathan was notified by the police to report to the station.
In a hushed tone, Preston informed Jonathan of the location where the check was hidden. He
instructed, âTake everything out and deposit it into the Suess Bank. Then, find your grandpa and ask
him to pull some strings to get me out.â
Jonathanâs eyes gleamed with admiration. âYouâre amazing, Dad! You managed to get 150 million
dollars just like that.â
âLearn something from me,â Preston advised, âKeep the money in your hands. Whatâs the point of
earning it if you canât access it when needed?â
âYeah, the companyâs CFO told me Iâll be able to withdraw my profits by the next quarter,â Jonathan
said.
The company was preparing for a stock launch and needed a significant amount of capital, so
dividends were put on hold temporarily.
âGo and find your grandpa. Donât let any information slip. Just insist that I have nothing and that I was
merely visiting the office,â Preston emphasized.
âI understand, Dad.â Jonathan nodded firmly.
Many journalists were broadcasting the news, and within a short while, news of Prestonâs theft of
Whitman Groupâs confidential files spread like wildfire in Docwood.
On his way to the bank, Jonathan received pop-up notifications about the trending topic on his phone.
He disdainfully glanced at them and turned off his phone. He was about to get his hands on 150 million
dollars, and he could not care less about these public opinions.
âI want to cash this checkâ
âSure, please wait a moment.â The bank teller took the check, examined it, and furrowed his brows
slightly.
âSir, Iâm sorry, but this check is invalid. It canât be cashed.â
âWhat? Take a good look again!â
âIâm sure of it. Itâs an empty check.â
Jonathan stared at the check before him, and it was not long before he realized that Preston
had been deceived. His breathing grew labored, and he collapsed on the spot.
