The Alpha Academy [Lost Mates Book 1]
>>Mael
I pressed the button to light the screen on my phone to look at the time. Then I looked at the screensaver and smiled. It was a picture of my twin sister, Amara, and me. We're fraternal twins but our features still match a lot.
Then I placed my phone down on the desk and glanced at Calix who was sitting beside me.
"Mr. Owen is late," I said and he nodded.
"It could be because of that accident."
"Yea..."
The academy had to take responsibility for what happened to the four students because it happened on an official trip. Mr.Owen though wasn't kicked out or anything since the investigation was still ongoing and no one knows what really happened.
It looked like an animal attack but we're all werewolves here, so the possibility of one of us being the culprit hasn't been ruled out.
I glanced at Eli, he came back to the dorm after I had gone to bed and we haven't exchanged any words at all, but I do wonder, is he not afraid at all? He did something so cruel. I looked down. But, he did it for me, didn't he?
Why?
I turned around and noticed that Calix was glancing at me.
"What?" I asked.
"Um," He seemed a little hesitant, "I've said this before too but without your glasses, you look-" He paused and I got self-conscious.
"I-," I panicked, "I'm going to get a new pair on the weekend." I tried to hide my eyes with my bangs
"Hey, hey!" He stopped my hands, "You look pretty." He tried to bring my hands down, "There's no need to hide it."
"No!" I snatched my hands away from his, "I can't look pretty." I said, "I'm an Alpha." I gritted and teeth and looked down, "And a man..." I looked away, "I'm not pretty."
"Sorry," He apologized, "I must have hurt your feelings."
"It's okay." I calmed down and then I noticed there were other people who were stealing glances at me. It made me self-conscious all over again.
I should go and buy another pair as soon as possible. I have to get my hormone injections soon too.
"Mael?" Calix tapped my shoulder and I shyly looked at him.
"Yes?"
"There's something I want you to know." He had a serious look in his eyes, "We're friends and I'm always here to help you out."
"..." I nodded, "Okay," I smiled at him but for some reason, he looked like he hadn't conveyed his feelings or something.
"That means," He further said as he looked into my eyes, "You can rely on me at any time, about anything." I paused, "I would never judge you for anything and I will always help you out." My heart warmed at his words.
"Okay..." I passed him a gentle smile, "Thank you."
But I knew that there was no way I could tell him my secret. That is something I should keep to myself. That's a problem I should be facing on my own.
"Morning class!" The teacher entered the classroom and slammed the attendance book on the table when he reached his desk, "I hope the rest of you are doing well." He scanned us all, "We've got a ban from 'dangerous' activities even though as Alpha werewolves there shouldn't be issues like that, to begin with." He was in a bad mood, everyone could tell from his face. Even his eyes were scary, "But since we'll be staying in for a while." He opened his book, "We'll be doing a small activity." The whole class was dead silent as everyone kept their eyes on him, "The simplest thing I could come up with, that's 'safe'" He made a bunny gesture with two of his fingers from both hands as he rolled his eyes, "Is a play."
"..." Everyone knew he was annoyed so no one dared to ask him about this play.
"What play?" He answered it himself as he turned around and wrote on the board, "A stage play with added scenes. Take a fairytale and do something with it. The characters will remain the same but you can mold the story however you like. I don't care what you all do, just present me with something by the end of next week. You'll work on the project as a class group."
He turned around and looked at us again, "There are no restrictions to how you mold the story but the era and characters have to be the same. Like every assignment and project, the play will affect your final grade." He glared at us, "Any questions?"
No one spoke.
"Good," He began to take the attendance after that, "I'm going to leave you all be, you'll all free to do whatever you want but next Friday, I want this stupid play on stage." He slammed his book shut, "Dismissed." And began to walk out of the classroom but stopped at the door to give us one final look, "And if it happens that the attacker of the recent incident is one of you-" He growled, "I will kill you myself."
"...." We all kept our lips sealed. Everyone knew if anyone dared say anything, Mr. Owen might just strike us off.
He then walked out and the whole class quietly turned to each other with their lips pursed, trying to look for help.
After several minutes of silence Naima stood up, "Well, we have to do something." She went to the board, "Anyone has any ideas?"
Lieglo stood up, "We have to take a fairytale, so any of the basic ones would do."
"Does anyone have any favorite fairy tales?" Lia stood up, "We'll think of how to change the story later, let's decide on a fairytale for now." She looked at the class but no one answered. It was probably because fairytales were considered a thing for kids, human kids, maybe even betas and omegas but it wasn't an Alpha thing so no one wanted to answer.
It was like keeping your ego but we had to proceed too. Mr. Owen purposely chose a fairytale concept and we all knew that.
"I like snow white." Killian finally raised his hand
"Okay!" Leiglo immediately wrote it on the board, "We'll go with this." And I think I heard many people sigh in relief.
"I'll make the character chits and put them in the ballot box," Naima started tearing the pages from her register, "Everyone will draw a role. If there's any objection, everyone is welcome to speak up."
***
"I'm the bisexual prince?" Calix raised his brows at the chit and Lia grinned.
"We are changing the story so I thought why not add some attributes?"
Calix looked at the class, "Any objection?" He asked but no one objected, so in the end, he accepted his role too.
"I'm a love dwarf," Lia got her note out to show everyone.
"I got the dwarf too," Lieglo said, "But no specification."
"I'm snow white." Naima seemed pretty pleased with herself and like that one by one, everyone drew their slots.
"I got the flirty evil witch..." I looked at everyone and no one had any objections.
"You're a little cute to be the evil witch." Killian rolled his eyes and I glared at him.
"It's true though," The rest of the class stared at me, "None of us realized you had such a pretty face behind those thick ugly glasses."
"Ah..." I gulped, and my heartbeat began to accelerate, "Thanks?" I had no idea what to say. People were now giving me more attention than I ever got in my life and I didn't know how to tackle it. While they were all focused on me Eli got his paper out of the ballot box.
"I'm a hunter hired by the witch?" He snickered.
"Why is that funny?" Calix asked.
"Because apparently," He turned to show the chit to everyone, "I'm the servant with benefits." He smirked as he looked at me and the class whistled. It made me blush but I immediately composed myself.
"Well then, everyone's got their roles, so we should all go and try to find the outfits at costume stories." Lia said, "How about looking around with our original groups?" Everyone agreed and decided to leave right away.
"The people who got roles as extras can stay and build up a story for the play," Naima said and Eli poked Killian.
"That's you," He grinned, "What are you anyway?" Eli asked Killian and he showed him his chit,
"I'm a tree." Eli burst out laughing at his role and honestly, it made everyone laugh. After the main roles, to accommodate the whole class, there were extra roles like these too.
"Go," Killian shooed everyone away, "I'll be sure to write a masterpiece." He passed us an evil smile.
